I started putting my phone asleep before I try to jailbreak and GP quits unexpectedly now as soon as I enter dfu mode.

I get the skull logo when booting up but it goes to the emergency/connect to iTunes for activation screen. Can anybody help please?

ok i've been having issues with this to begin with.

1) Terminal - I don't have the gs.apple thing or whatever it is.
2) I did run it GreenPoison through terminal.
3) It started running, and then entered DFU mode, and then I got the white screen of death. Meanwhile, terminal was saying it was still loading.
4) after a couple of seconds i hit the sleep button.

PRESTO - loaded, restarted. and now i see this revolving skull.

try that guys.

Yea hitting the sleep button worked for me too...

Well finally got Cydia installed. Now everytime I open it, it crashes.

I got it working by putting a tethered jailbreak on and then running greenpois0n. It just didn't work the first time because I forgot to turn off my iPhone before I installed greenpois0n.

I just tried running it over a tethered install and Greenpois0n froze my trackpad and keyboard. I had to hard reboot the MacBook.

[EDIT] I tried it when shutting it off first and now it's loading.

Finally got mine working by switching USB ports.

I ran through terminal and held down the home button until I saw verbose boot, but did not edit my hosts file or anything else.

Hey guys I finally made progress. I put my iphone into dfu mode. I followed their advice from here:

Put in DFU mode FIRST.. then run GP. If you're on the recovery mode screen follow these steps:

1. Hold home for 10 seconds
2. Continue to hold home and press power for 10 seconds then let go of power.
3. The screen will be black.... continue to hold home until iTunes detects the phone in DFU.
4. Continue to hold home and run GP.
5. Continue to hold home until code runs down the screen.

If you didn't catch it... you never let go of home from start till code runs "

im downloading cydia now. YAY! ITZZZ WORKING!

Mark me as another that got it to work on an existing redsn0w tethered install!!! Woohoo!!! The only thing I did was hold down the home button until it Greenpois0n said "Complete."

I used it on my iPod Touch (4G), but my method should prove useful to anyone...

Simply "show package contents"
Then open the file in MacOS via terminal.
Use GP as normal.
I did NOT hold down Home after it started JB'ing.
It then took QUITE a while to boot up, but it worked.

I'm so happy this came out. This is the first untethered jailbreak that's worked on my iPhone 4. I can't wait until an unlock comes out.

Same here. I couldn't get redsn0w to untether it and I wasn't about to restore with 4.3 around the corner. I'm happy.

Just as an aside. I still can't get iBooks purchased books to work. Grrr.

Sounds like you need to activate with an official sim. They stated there was no hacktivation this time around.

I don't think this is the jailbreak's fault. The Cydia server is getting hammered because everyone is downloading Cydia now. I'd try again. It took me 50 minutes to download it and Cydia is stable so far.

Cydia still works fine for those that JB over an existing JB. It's probably a bad Cydia download because of the strain.

I just rebooted untethered and ... it was a thing of beauty!

well, i hope that the crash of the cydia is due to the servers... but i have a feeling that something is wrong with the app it self! The cydia might get some errors during the load of the data.... but it does not even want to open...
:(
