I'm on latest iTunes. I didn't restore or anything. I held home for about 20 seconds. Booted back up and my theme is still here too.

Held Home Button Entire Time

FYI, I successfully used GP the first time by using the advice to hold home button down throughout the process. (As in until it reboots). Have not be able to download cydia however. I also started by restoring to a fresh 4.2.1 firmware.

Good luck!

I tried all the tricks here launching via terminal, editing hosts file, keeping the home button pressed. Its still stuck on Greenpois0n initialized.

How long did you hold it for and do you hold it through the GP initialized screen too?

ok i've been having issues with this to begin with.

1) Terminal - I don't have the gs.apple thing or whatever it is.
2) I did run it GreenPoison through terminal.
3) It started running, and then entered DFU mode, and then I got the white screen of death. Meanwhile, terminal was saying it was still loading.
4) after a couple of seconds i hit the sleep button.

PRESTO - loaded, restarted. and now i see this revolving skull.

try that guys.

Just ran GP on tethered JB iPad. No restore... just ran it. Held home button until it hit verbose mode. Took about 3 minutes, booted up perfectly in JB mode, untethered!

Thanks Chronic Dev Team!!! You rock!!!
:):):)

So I could just run GP on my already tethered jailbroken iphone 4? Will everything stay the same or will I have to re-download all the apps again?

Make that 2 of us, I just ran it as if it was running a freshly version of 4.2, and it ran just fine, no problem at all...

Now, one more iPad, and 2 iPhones to go ( I have to update those...)

THat is what I did with my iPad, and everything is working fine so far, I would guess it would be the same on the iPhone 4, but can't test since both of my iPhone 4's are on 4.1...

I downloaded the jailbreak and every time I open it on Mac it says that it closed unexpectedly and I have to relaunch and then it keeps crashing.

Happen to anyone else?

I have a 4.2.1 iPhone, no jailbreak, clean with all my contacts etc.

Do I need to restore this to factory setting before jailbreak?

Is the GP file realy only 1.0mb? and what is terminal? I've never used GP to jailbreak before so sorry for the questions.

I held it the entire time. I did not let go until the phone rebooted. I also saw the same initializing screen that showed missing files but continued to hold and after several seconds it progressed.

Finally got it. Tried the so-called "Terminal trick" some 10 times. Turned off Little Snitch, still no go.

Ran GP (without Terminal), kept holding HOME, tapped sleep button real fast when it booted into DFU at the white screen, and BAM.

Golden.
