4.2.1 Greenpois0n

Just thought I would say that the newest version of GP worked for me. Just closed iTunes, ran GP, held Home until the GP application said complete (even thought it was stuck at "GP Initialized"), then a few seconds later it loaded everything. Had to install Cydia through redsn0w though. ;)
 
I just tried that new "fixed" GP link and and the program still crashes. (Just rebooted my macbook and i don't have itunes running.) Anybody have an idea why it wont even run? This is silly.

It's like asking a question to a wall, isn't it? They'll just say it's our faults for not being born computer geeks. :rolleyes:
 
The new link worked for me on the first time...i dont know why other people cant get it to work...i just my sure i kept holding down the home button until i saw the apple logo turn into the skull thing. Then i finally let go of it.

You need to get the redsn0w 0.9.7b6 and select 'Install Cydia'

It will install Cydia and leave your untethered jailbreak untouched

You'll need the iOS 4.2.1 software for your respected device, i.e downloading it direct from Apple (or a different source), rather than through iTunes
 
Ok, jailbroken ... but as with others, the Loader doesn't show Cydia.

Which version of redsn0w do I need to use to install Cydia. I take it there's an option to only install Cydia and not run redsn0w's own jailbreak software?

I was able to Jailbreak using greenpois0n 5.2 with no problems. However, this being my very first jailbreak (don't judge me ;)), I do not understand this whole 'instal redsn0w to get Cydia' aspect of this. I downloaded redsn0w and it wants me to do something with my .ispw file. I think that may be more above my paygrade. :)

Any advice on how to instal cydia by other means, would be appreciated.

And why would they take it off the site. There are plenty of people that want to JB 4.1

Think beyond your own needs.
 
To the two people who i helped with my post, no problem

I'm still holding out on jailbreaking my iPhone 4, i'm gonna leave it another 24 hours or so, wait until Cydia is running properly through 'Installer'

I'm thinking of just buying like an iPod Touch 3rd gen to jailbreak and mod with, I fear completely screwing my iPhone 4, and transforming it into a paperweight. A beautifully crafted paperweight at that.

I can't think a way to "completely screw" an iPhone 4. You can delete everything, format the drive and still can restore. Only way to screw totally an iphone 4 is by hardware.
 
I am a first time jailbreaker. i have installed green poison and now im trying to install redsnow to get cydia. I succesfully did all this on my ipad because someone put in the link to the ipad ipsw. Does anyone have that for the iphone 4 so that i can run redsnow. Thanks

I've used PwnageTool and Redsn0w and Blackra1n in the past and they worked fine. I have no idea why Greenpois0n won't even open on my laptop or else I'd try to help you.

My MacBook is running OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes is 10.2.1, I don't think Greepois0n is Snow Leopard-only as they don't have any system requirements listed on their website.

I think they should spend more time making sure their program is stable before working on stupid things like an animated boot logo or a title that replaces vowels with numbers.

check out www.iclarified.com for tutorials on how to jailbreak with either redsnow or greenpoison.

No luck. I appreciate the work of the developers, but so far, greenpois0n has been a complete failure for me.
