4.2.1 Greenpois0n

Ok, for those of you that are trying to use Greenpois0n and getting the "Failed" error, here's what I did and it worked. NOTE: The steps below assume that Greenpois0n.app is on your Desktop.

1. Make sure you're using Greenpois0n RC5_2
2. Make sure device is connected to your Mac
3. Open Terminal
4. Type "cd Desktop" without quotes and hit enter
5. Type "open Greenpois0n.app/Contents/MacOS/greenpois0n" without quotes and hit enter. A second Terminal window will open and Greenpois0n will start
6. Follow the instructions in Greenpois0n to enter DFU mode and it will jailbreak
7. Once jailbroken, a green "Loader" will be added to your device. This is supposed to allow you to install Cydia, but mine would not. If yours is the same, go to step 8
8. Turn off your device
9. Open Redsn0w 0.9.7b6
10. Make sure the only option checked is "Install Cydia"
11. Follow the instructions in Redsnow
12. Voila! Cydia is installed, and you have an untethered 4.2.1 jailbroken device!

I got to this step. A 2nd window opened and then a dialog box popped up telling me Greenpois0n crashed unexpectedly. This is what appeared in the second Terminal window:

All sorted. :D

Cydia installed via redsn0w, had to download the ipsw file (4.2.1) for my iPhone 4, but once redsn0w recognised the ipsw file it was preset to install Cydia (no other boxes were checked).

Anyone know how to change the boot logos? Supposedly it supports custom animated boot logos. Can you make your own and install them somehow?
 
Reverse engineer the unix executable. Let us know what you did.

This thread has been really helpful in an interesting way. It's helped me come up with a quick list of annoying windows users who keep asking if the windows version is out so that I can ignore them.

Note to windows users: Don't you think if the windows version was out it would be all over this forum? Or at the very least announced on the team's twitter page?

when i double click greenpois0n nothing happens

so i open terminal and go to the folder where it is and type open greenpois0n.app

but i get this errror


LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Users/Jeezy/Downloads/greenpois0n.app.


what am i doing wrong?

so there was talk about animated boot-up logos...I just want my stock apple logo...I guess I will have to wait until I can just keep that logo. any solutions to this?
 
I'm not sure what is going on. The jailbreak appeared to be successful but when I launch loader nothing appears, I can't find Cydia. I've been closing it out and relaunching for hours with no luck. Any ideas?

Run redsnow and choose only Cydia.
 
I have problems with gamecenter, it always logs me into sandbox mode, anyone else have the same problem?

But what to do with my iPad. It's in 4.2.1 and i used redsnow 0.9.6rc8 to jailbreak it (tethered). Is it possible to run greenpois0n and stay with the rest?
Don't like to install XBMC again (scraping was nearly a day^^)....

Yes. Go to /usr/bin/ (either SSH in or download iFile via Cydia) and delete the file called 'animate'. Reboot and it shouldn't appear anymore (just the stock Apple logo).

Great tip! Works fine and more importantly the phone boots much faster.
 
greenposi0n JBed, GPS problem remained

I used greenposi0n to re-JB my 3GS, but GPS problem is not solved.

Will a clean re-install and JB benefit? Anyone try?

thanks .. finally got rid of that skull on boot .. dunno if it made booting faster or not

That got me past the "Failed" message and on to the "Complete" message on the Screenpois0n dialog, but it left my iPhone 4 with a screen full of scary looking computer text (like you get on a Windows blue screen of death).

When I rebooted the phone, there was no "Loader" app. All of my old apps *were* still there, however, so I'm assuming that the jailbreak actually failed. I mean, if it was successful, it would have wiped my existing apps, yes?
