Hi, I have a iPhone 4 that's factory unlocked and running on 4.3. I dont care about baseband, so are there any other way to just skip all the ipsw part and jailbreak my device?

Thanks

I saved info how to do this in a text on my desktop just incase here is how I do it:

I just had to do it in Mac for my iPhone 4 and it worked.

I havnt tried the Windows route so let me know if that works?

How to Fix Error Code 1013:
Mac OS X:
Step 1. On your Mac, go to your “Applications” folder.
Step 2. Now navigate to the “Utilities” folder.
Step 3. Launch "Terminal".
Step 4. Type "sudo nano /etc/hosts" (without quotes) and hit return.
Step 5. Enter your password
Step 6. Use the down arrow key to find the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” in front of the text.
Step 7. Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O then hit Enter.
Step 8. Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X.
Step 9. Restore your iDevice.
Windows:
Step 1. Start –> Programs –> Accessories
Step 2. Run Notepad or WordPad
Step 3. Click “Open..” from File menu.
Step 4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc
Step 5. In "files of type:" select all documents
Step 6. Open "hosts"
Step 7. Delete all line that has "gs.apple.com" or something like that
Step 8. Hit Save
Step 9. Restore your device

I don't have a Mac, but thanks anyway, I got it working..

There's almost nothing to this part. You browse to it and select it. Not complicated.
Mmm... sorry :D What do I have to browse? the patch 4.3.1?? Otherwise, that mean I have to download 4.3.1??

Thanks in advance.

If you do not care about unlock and having trouble restoring to stock 4.3.1 on iTunes. You probably have a host file issue, you can modify the host file but it is only a short term solution. A better solution is to fix the source of the problem. Open tiny umbrella go to advance mode, uncheck box that says leave host file to Cydia on exit, close tiny umbrella.

If you change host instead of fixing tiny umbrella the next time use tiny umbrella to save shsh it will modify your host file again.

You can do everything in post 105 or uncheck one box.

Thanks, but my phone does not have any issue. I just want to confirm that if there's anyway to skip the part that's to preserve BB and just jailbreak. If there isnt, I assume my only option is to download 4.3.1 and just jailbreak it like others.

Sorry my post was not in response to your question. It was a general post.

If you have installed 4.3.1, the ipsw file is already on your computer so there's no need to download it. The directory it's in has been mentioned earlier in this thread. After you start redsnow, one of the steps is to browse to this file.

As I mentioned, I was already running 4.3.1 and did not have to restore from a backup after the jb.

just run redsn0w, and point it towards the ipsw.

Help please

I'm trying to preserve my BB at 3.10.01 I have my shsh's saved in TU and was following the tutorials in the links given in previous pages. I went into itunes and downloaded 4.3.1. I also have downloaded recovery fix in TU.

As I started the TSS server in TU, is closed iTunes (as it should) but when I reopened it and pressed shift + restore on my PC, it wanted to find a file on my desktop for 4.3.1. How do I or where do I go and find that download?

Thanks for your help?

New iphone 4 here running 4.3.1 tethered jailbreak. Can I just jailbreak running redsnow or do I have to shift restore to get rid of any remnants? Then should I restore as new or can I restore from backup?

Is it your understanding that tiny umbrella has to be used to preserve baseband?

So if I want to unlock my iPhone 4 is it now safe to update to 4.3.1? I'm still on 4.3 b/c I read 4.3.1 changes the baseband. I have saved my 4.3 SHSH blobs but looks like the current unlock works best with 4.3.1.

I keep having to remind myself every time i read this it only applies to the 4, still plenty of 3gs users here. Would be nice as this is much easier than cooking a custom ipsw.

Ok, this is very odd.

If I toggle the vibrate switch to silent mode, the iPhone is supposed to vibrate as we all know.

However, since Jailbreaking, it doesn't always vibrate, and sometimes vibrates when I switch it back to the normal position, when it shouldn't.

I restored the phone to pre-jailbreak and it works fine so its definately a software related issue.

Has anyone else noticed this?
