sorry if this has already been posted (haven't read through all 11 pages) but C|Net has a article about this rumor now.

Linky

Good to see other sites picking up on it, but this is basically just quoting that ThinkSecret article and not introducing much else new. Still though, it definitely gives the rumor a little more weight – of course, it is still just a rumor... ;)

I found it interesting that Toshiba is planning on using its 60 GB drives in its own MP3 player too...

Re who wants to carry all your photos... I do! I'm always being asked to show something, or wanting to show something, and don't have my PB on hand.

Re playing .movs... yes that would be fun,

Plus TV output makes this even more ideal.

With the color screen and a 60 Gb internal disc, one considers the (near) future. A remote server ala .[dot]Mac and wireless access ala ATT Edge (crippleware verson).

The iPod should soon have a cell-phone for wireless access and a remote server since the internal storage, no matter how impressive and massive will NEVER be enough.

Apple is IMHO about to become the portable, remote information access supplier of choice.

The future is [almost] here. Apple. Form factor and consumer interface matters. Buy stock.

Anyone thinking that Apple isn't being sensitive to battery-conscience ipod users by throwing in a color screen need to consider the upcoming NintendoDS.

This new game system has TWO 3" SCREENS (!) that are both color and able to display 260,000 colors that ARE BACKLIT (!) -- stereo sound -- has one screen that is "touch screen" -- does wireless gaming for 32 gamers at once -- and does 3D games better than the Nintendo64 could ...

... and this "little game machine that could" has a battery life up to 10 hours (4hour charge), depending on use.

So... don't tell me that Apple can't do a mere 2" screen that simply shows pictures and it will drain the battery.

That is your opinion. Have you even noticed in this century alone how far humans have evolved and what we have accomplished to date. We have done things so fast in such a short time compared to any given century.

if you took a portable computer to 1750 there will think its witch craft and prob burn you for it LOL. ;)

They will not grasp the who virtual world thing, believe me. People of those times are simple and If I am right and all you do is sit in the office at your computer and with little to no physical activity you will not be able to plow a field. You can try however won't be able to keep up.

This is the point of the argument, its to keep up. And people from 1750 will not be able to keep up with computers as you would not be able to keep up with all day physical activity.

take care.

BS..

People couldn't advance becuase of all the religious crap people believed and the fact that nobody that challenged the ideas where taken seriously through the dark ages, while people aimlessly copied from books all day.. it wasn't until the renassance that new ideas where allowed to really develop. This is all environmental issues we are talking about here.. their brains where not different to ours such a short time ago.

How big is the NintendoDS, how much does it weigh, and what's the HD capacity?

(PS, re evolution... yes, evolution is biology, not culture. Human brains haven't changed much recently, just what we're taught. Not to mention that while the middle ages darkened Europe, OTHER, non-Western cultures, were quite advanced, making discoveries in mathematics, astronomy, chemistry etc. that would have gotten THEM burned as witches :) I think they could have been taught Mac OS X just fine after a few weeks orientation to learn modern metaphors... and get over the time travel :) )

Great, I just bought a 4G 20GB iPod. The day I buy a G5 will be the month before they release a G6.
Excellent. Please immediately purchase a dual G5!

Random thought... has Toshiba announced details of their player? If not, it could be a Toshiba-branded 60GB iPod, just like HP has the 20 and 40. (I'm pretty sure I read that HP's deal is not exclusive.) And Toshiba might even put iTunes on its laptops.

I linked to an article in my post above with some information on the Toshiba player, if this helps - here it is again.

Whoa, that is random

While the chance of this happening is not zero, it is pretty close. Why would this be an advantage for apple?

Just before the 4th Gen iPod's came out, I heard from a friend who has done some work for Apple here in Canada that he had it on good authority that this type of product was coming soon.

Click the link... or see the my edited first post.

I KNOW there are differences, but it goes to show that a small handheld device that DOES A LOT can have a long battery life.

DV Capture Platform

While Apple is at it, this new iPod could be configured to capture DV output from DV camcorders, a la QuickStream or FS units. How many event videographers would snap these babies up for tapeless video acquisition?

Analog video outs and a small preview screen would make it the perfect product for using captured footage in the field, and the price would be comparable to the competition--while still being the cool audio jukebox it always was.

OLED would be great as well.

Unless I'm mistaken a 60 GB hard drive only takes 2 layers, so the hardrive should not be any thicker than the current 40 GB ipod. It is most likely the battery that is increasing the size.

Those are all cool suggestions, but a little beyond this next iPod I'm thinking. Photos first, then video... ;)

The Toshiba 60 GB drive is actually smaller than the 40 GB drive, so yes, a size increase (if any) would be due to the battery.

Okay lads this is what you been waiting for. I smuggled this image out of apples cupertino headquarters (it was a splinter cell style job). I hope you enjoy.

You said that before the last comment, and then stated that by evolution you meant knowledge...

When I posted my comment on evolved brains, I meant the knowledge that we have obtained in the last 100 years

You are still arguing that people in 1750 are too 'simple' to learn to use a computer just because its 300 years ago.. which is rediculous - regardless of what society has learnt recently, humans from several hundred years ago could still learn to use a computer with ease.

Totally off topic...but what your talking about happened in Europe. The rest of the world was moving forward. Funny how the more violent cultures seem to achieve dominance. Rome, North European barbarians, Japan, England, America...

But I agree that there has probably been zero brain evolution in 200 years. Evolution happens over thousands of years, with the occasional mutation. The major factors for why people are smarter have been education(mostly literacy) and nutrition/health care. Oh and the fall of idiotic Catholic "intellectual" doctrines.

Today I spent the better part of the morning running errands. Knowing I would be waiting in lines an appreciable amount of time, I grabbed a magazine for the trip (PC Gamer -- don't hate me because I have a PC strictly to play the latest games). Had I owned a video iPod, I would have taken it instead. I could have offloaded a couple of TV shows and watched them when:

1) While I was waiting at the hospital to get blood drawn for an annual physical. (20 minutes)

2) While I was enjoying a calorie-rich breakfast (after 12 hours of fasting for my blood test) at a nearby fast-food joint (15 minutes)

3) While I waited for my Venti Java-Chip (again, more calories) to be made. (5 minutes)

4) While I found myself killing about a half-hour for the dry cleaners to open because because I managed to do all of the above before 0900. (30 minutes)

5) While I waited at Chili's for my wife to join me for Lunch. (10 minutes)

All of this time adds up and each of these instances is well suited for me to sit and watch a video while killing time. Instead, I read my magazine, which worked really well too. And you know what? 80 minutes of waiting seemed like nothing at all, and I would have rather watched nearly four sitcoms (Scrubs, Simpsons perhaps) after fast forwarding through commercials than read about the hottest PC game I'll begrudgingly buy for my HP.

Dude, I feel sorry for your arteries. ;)

LOL, pass those one button mice here. I will welcome them for an art project. :D

Well just because you have learned to use a multi button mouse doesn't mean that the elderly can absorb this information quickly as you have. It takes time, pratice and a transition period. If you like multi button mice great go spend the extra money on it. Apple has already said it looks to the best interest of ALL users meaning children and elderly also included, if you are working I am sure the extra 10-20 USD will not burn a hole in your pocket. Maybe other mouse companies should have a trade in program. Trade in an Apple mouse and get a 2 button one for 5 dollar more or something. Scroll wheels are popular however again same situation as the above.

Well, my point was that since 90+% of the computing world uses windows, 90+% know how to use a 2-button mouse. In the US, this basically means everyone, since the computer market is essentially fully saturated. In fact, probably the only place to get a one-button mouse is from Apple. Children are able to figure out how to use a 2-button mouse, unless they are "special." ;) Otherwise, heaven help them since they won't be able to get a job later in life. And, yes, elderly might have a problem with 2-buttons. But that number is declining every day. In 20 years, probably every senior will have used a 2-button mouse.

Apple should bto it. You can delete the modem, why not the mouse? They already give keyboard options. Why should I pay for something that is worthless to me and will be replaced as soon as I get it? OS X already supports it, why hide it? Apple needs to get over the "not invented here" thing. The one-button mouse should just die like the floppy.
