Seems like a few people on here are having an issue. Did you restore from a backup? It's always a good idea to set up as new.

It could be your phone downloading photos/songs/etc in the background. The restore from backup process may have been done, but it always takes a little longer for the phone to finish downloading everything. My iPhone 6S Plus was lagging for a little bit last night too. This morning, now that everything's been downloaded, it's blazing through everything.

Hopefully it's just that. I always get a little worried when I see phone lag. If you're not seeing it anymore, you should be good!

I had this yesterday after the initial setup (restore from iTunes). By last night and today, I have no issues. Everything is super fast. I assumed it was indexing and whatever else it was doing for the initial setup.

We're talking about an A9 1.85Ghz chip with 2GB of DDR4 RAM. Why must we resort to that? =/

that's because it has nothing to do with the specs right now, it's iOS9's code problem and we need to deal with it until Apple releases an update.

I did in fact see that sluggishness after waking the phone yesterday. But today it is gone. I agree with that person who said it was some sort of indexing process. That would explain why it went away by morning when it had been completed.

I've tested this on the 6 Plus and 6s Plus. Both phones were restored to the latest version of iOS software yesterday as a new phone. All the same apps, iCloud account, settings configurations (the phones are essentially mirroring each other). The 6 Plus doesn't lag anything like the 6s Plus does when been woken from sleep after 25-30 mins.

The 6 Plus actually gets back into the app faster than the 6s Plus despite having a much slower and less responsive Touch ID.

I also don't think it's indexing as the 6 Plus has none of these problems after 24 hours whereas the 6s Plus (which is much faster and should re-index quicker) is still lagging like hell on wake up.

On the surface it does feel like a software issue. The fact this isn't widespread among all 6s Plus users and that the 6 Plus doesn't have the same problems, does concern me a bit this might be a hardware issue.

Thanks for the links. I'm sorry that I didn't see them first, but at least it makes me feel better since it's probably not a hardware problem.

Just for the record, I did NOT restore from a backup though.

Just to chime in, I did NOT restore from a backup and my 6S+ had terrible freezing and lag last night. So far this morning it's been OK so maybe it was just indexing or something.

I am on a 6s. Just upgraded to ios 9.1 beta 2 and the unlock lag went away. Still monitoring.

Its a software issue for 9.0.1

I've seen others say elsewhere that they still have the lag on beta 2. So I'm not convinced this is going to be the blanket fix for everyone (just like restoring or resetting settings in 9.0.1 works for some and not others). I hope that it is though!

Surfer13134 is a GENIUS. My phone was so laggy it was unusable but after turning off Siri Suggestions in Spotlight everything is good. I had a feeling it was a software glitch but it was really making me regret trading in my 6 Plus. Thanks so much for figuring this out.

Laggy and unusable? I would love to see a video of this. I often hear people complain about lag on devices I own, like the 6 plus, and I think "are they using the same device I am?" I'm not saying you aren't having an issue, but I would like to see this for myself. My 6S is super fast and responsive. No lag anywhere. And it restored from a backup.

I had this issue when I initially restored. Seems for me it as caused by iTunes Match downloading 6,000 songs in the background automatically. No longer laggy or freezes. Super smooth.

So I buy a car and the dealer say "don't drive it yet, wait a day for the car to warm up, otherwise the engine will be sluggish"

No it's like a battery which is primed once you let it go to zero then charge it to 100. It's called optimizing the battery
