I get a 'pause' when I'm in my calendar.

It happens when I go to invite someone to the event. I type the first letter of the contact's name and suddenly there's nothing else happening as I'm typing the 2nd & 3rd etc letters.

After about 10 seconds, it suddenly 'catches up' and all's well again.

I have my contacts stored as part of my Hosted Exchange email from MS if that helps.
do you not get the status bar taking a few seconds to appear after unlocking the phone?

guys all those are signs of a buggy OS. Gotta wait for updates. Doubt swapping phones will help.
I was on 9.0.2 I am now on 9.1 Beta 3 as a clean install on my iPhone 6S Plus 128GB TSMC Chip, and it has happened on both, my iPad Air 2 is also on 9.1 Beta 3 and has none of these issues.

I originally (Sept 25th) selected "Restore from iTunes Backup" when I was setting up my 128GB 6S+. I had all sorts of lag, freezing, and missing content issues. Eventually I backed up my phone, restored it, and "Set Up as New iPhone". Now it works like a charm. I recommend (as many others have) doing this also.

I and many other people have already done this and we are still having issues, to be fair i never restore from backup on any phone i get. Do you not get the status bar taking a few seconds to appear after unlocking the phone? I have a 6S+ 128GB and nearly every time i unlock for he phone for nearly 5 seconds i have no status bar and it registers no input. 5 seconds might not seem long, but i can assure you it is lol

Here are my observations.

1. With Touch ID enabled

Left phone for 30 secs alone. Did some random unlockings and status bar SOMETIMES shows up 1-2 secs later.

2. Without Touch ID enabled

Random unlockings and even pressing the home button / power switch to wakeup the screen results in a 1-2 sec delay.

*hits the power button* -> Phone takes 1 sec -> Lights up screen after 1 sec.

1. I setup as new under 9.0.1

2. Did not restore from backup.

3. Updated to iOS 9.0.2.

4. I did not enable Siri suggestions and stuff.

means 100% of the time the status bar will come out late?
yeah the status bar can take upto 5 seconds to appear, usually about 2-3 and until it does nothing is registered on the phone. Sometimes get all the icons freezing mid animation also, but thats rare.

Ok your situation sounds worst. Mine has some kinda jerky animation while unlocking. It definately feels like something is wrong and isn't as smooth as anything in ios 8. Performance wise, after unlocking, the phone is speedy.

Tech support offered to send me a new phone (am within 14 days), but i have high doubts the replacement unit will resolve this issue. I am also worried i am run into other problems with the new device.

To be fair mine is super quick after the issues with unlocking the dam thing lol. Just wished there wasnt that delay and the frame drops.

Turning off siri suggestions totally did it for me! No unlock lag or any wait! I'm on 9.0.2

I'm still waiting for my replacement to arrive, but I haven't receive a confirmation email or anything, just an email from FedEx saying that I have a return label available to print from Apple. I was like, really? I haven't even received my replacement and you are already sending labels for me to return the defective device. Not really impress with their slow service. I can't return it to the store because they are sold out everywhere. It is annoying to wait 2-5 seconds for the phone to respond to anything. As of right now, I miss the iPhone 6 plus I used to have, and that's a lot to say.
