How do you explain how the lag magically disappears after a few days? It's software...
I agree that it is software. My first 6S Plus purchased launch weekend, had this lag/freeze issue, but after a few days, it went away and everything worked smoothly. Recently purchased a sim-free 6S Plus, installed 9.1 and do have this lag/freeze effect but I'm going to keep an eye for a week, i'm pretty sure it will go away as it did with my previous 6S Plus.

*Not to mention that my current one is TSMC chip.

Exactly my experiences.

No, I'm saying you probably didn't have the two other phones long enough to really determine if they had lag.
First one a few days, second one 21 days. Both used extremely heavily.
Listen, I came from the 6+ and only upgraded because that was a lagmeister reloading machine. If either of my first 6S+ phones had displayed any form of lag whatsoever then I would have gone shopping for an Android phone. It's only because I now know that it's possible to get a lag-free 6S+ that I'm going to persevere and try yet another exchange. I waited nine months for Apple to release some software to 'fix' the 6+ so there's no way on earth that I would do the same again. It's either right straight out of the box, or it's going back.

My 128g had the lag and disappeared after a couple of days

Baffling what some of you are seeing. I've handled dozens of 6S+ models and never once encountered anything like this. Is there the occasional, infrequent, extremely brief stutter? Yes, and there always has and always will be on any smartphone, but with the way some of you talk about it, I can't help but believe there's either a) something wrong with your device, or b) you are completely full of it. Baffling.
No.
There have never been issues like this in an iPhone before unless is was the 6 Plus from last year.
Just watch this (in 60FPS on the YouTube site):

Could everyone please report the size of their iPhone when mentioning lag or no lag.

I have had three as follows:

6s 128gb TSMC - unlock lag with about 1 sec
6s+ 128gb Samsung unlock lag anywhere from 2-5 seconds - returned to Apple
6s+ 128gb TSMC - unlock lag with about 1-3 sec - replacement for above. Waiting for indexing to finish to see if there are better results.

All phones were setup as new.

I beginning to think this is a bug with the software and 128gb models. All Three of mine have had the issue whether it was a 6s or 6s+. 64gb folks please let us know how your device is doing.[/QUOTE

I can just agree seems like 128gb is the one with most problem. I have 128gb with the 1-2 sec delay freeze after unlock to homescree. Done everything but this Will not change. When i started the phone as new It was horrible. But after a update with iTunes It seems better with most lag. But the unlock freeze unresponsiveness is always left it doesn't matter what you do that will always stay at least with my phone.
And as i read all over internet It seems more common on 128Gb.

So I am noticing a few things on my new 6S Plus.

If I am on the lock screen and unlock, sometimes it acts like it didn't take and sits there for a second and boom, it then unlocks. Also noticed that sometimes when I unlock, the screen is frozen for a second after unlock and the bar with the info at the top is missing then comes back after it unfreezes.

I am assuming this is a software issue right now and hopefully it will get worked out. It's very weird.

I restored from a backup, from iTunes.
I have the exact same issue. Really wasn't expecting more lag than I had on my two year old Note 3. Definitely disappointed.

I noticed that icons at the top not showing up for a second or two when unlocking the device. If I reduce motion in the accessibility settings that issue goes away. Now I don't have any lag. So obviously something is up with the animation on iOS9 that needs to be tweaked with a subsequent update.

Not sure how this can be a software issue when my previous two 6S+ phones didn't exhibit any lag whatsoever, not even in the first minute out of the box. None. Nada.
Yet this third replacement (the first one had a dodgy home button, the second a faulty screen) has exhibited the unlocking lag for the last two charge cycles and it shows no sign of abating.

They're the same phones, no backup, reduce motion on, TouchID off, the same carrier, the same apps, the same wallpaper and the same usage pattern. The only difference is that two out of three phones never lagged. One does, so what software fix are we all hoping for?? My first two phones didn't need this 'fix' so I would say that this is a hardware issue.

Have the same issue with 6S+ 64gb model as well. But like I said, if remove animations it goes away.

Interesting that you have reduce motion on and it still lags. Where you on 9.1 with your other devices that didn't lag?

I think I've found a temporary fix for my i6S+ 128Gb. Would you guys mind to test it out and give some feedback?

I've set different wallpapers, one Live Wallpaper for the Lockscreen and a normal static wallpaper for the homescreen and the unlock lag is not present anymore!

Cheers

EDIT: I have all the rest activated as stock.

Both the others were on 9.0.1
This one came on 9.0.2 and lagged like crazy, plus it had dreadful battery life. I updated to 9.1 this evening and the battery life has improved a tad but the lag remains.

apologies if I'm getting this wrong, but would that not suggest it is a software issue?

People have been complaining about this issue way before 9.0.2 and 9.1
I actually tried 9.0.2 on a previous 6S+ but hastily reverted to 9.0.1 because the battery life wasn't as good. No lag, just worse battery.

Referring solely to the Touch ID unlock status bar lag, I definitely had it on 9.0.2, but not entirely sure about 9.0.1 as I wasn't on it for long at all before updating.

Furthermore, the issue has been raised in multiple thread on the Apple Support website but no response from Apple with a resolution. Now that I understand the problem better, you're right, this could be a hardware problem. From to time the status bar icons me won't show up when opening with touch ID. However, I don't get the lag that I witnessed in a video I just saw. Then again I'm not a software or hardware engineer so I'm just speaking totally subjectively here. That being said, must be frustrating. I would go back to Apple and keep requesting a new device until you leave the store with one that works properly.

Haven't read this whole topic or anything, but just wanted to share my opinion.

I got my 6S+ last Friday. It had horrible lag and stuttering when unlocking, opening certain apps, and the screen often froze and would not respond. Thought it was really odd to behaving so poorly.

It seemed to completely disappear after about 3 days. I haven't noticed anything really since. Strange indeed.
