That's just not true. Apple used to have dozens of Macs in their lineup in the late 90's. Steve Jobs and put them all in the trash except for four. Non-tech people want simple solutions with clear choices. When there are many, they usually end up buying a product that isn't right for them. There should never been more than 3 sizes. Small, Medium, Large. And I would really say more than two is too many.

Exactly, as I said before, I prefer the (good) "old days", Good-Better-Best.

But hey, It can be much worse, Intels Line of processors rings a bell.

People are making jokes about price, but I assume this will carry the same price as last year's model. That was the first major iPad price increase in years. I don't think they will try to push an increase through every year.

I think the big question is whether the new budget model will be last year's 9.7" Pro (with the iPad Air 2 discontinued) or vice versa. The Air 2 is still a really capable device for most tablet applications.
The new budget model will be the 9.7 IPad Pro . Air 2 Will be discontinued.

I think the screen size will also allow for a slightly bigger keyboard cover which will more closely match the laptop keyboards as well.

It would be really great if it had the same resolution as the 12.9" Pro, as that would mean that developers would have more incentive to update their apps to support that resolution as opposed to having to scale the app when running on the larger iPad. Some games designed for 9.7" could really be so much better if they get updated to support the higher resolution. Not just in clarity, but in size of elements in the UI.
It will.

i guess the this one will cost the same as current 9.7" pro, and lower the price for the new 9.7"
It doesn't make sense to have two iPads Pro with the same 9.7 display . The "budget model" will be the 9.7 iPad Pro .I am wondering if the 12.9 will stick in this years line up ?

Do you really believe Apple will drop the Mini, it's a very convenient size for lots of people.
The latest rumors said that won't be an IPad Mini 5. I think the mini Line are done

The new budget model will be the 9.7 IPad Pro . Air 2 Will be discontinued.
It is possible that the 9.7" Pro will be discontinued due to the complexity of the lineup, with only the 10.5" and 12.9" being the true 'Pro's . In its place will be an Air 3 or "new iPad", hence the A9 chip that will apparently be used.

I wish this was true for Macs.
It's still true for some Macs.

I've been waiting for the 2nd gen 12.9 Ipad. Super excited. Would love to see some type of pencil update as well. Although not sure what that might be other than different tips.

Some sort of erasing function would be awesome. Favourite thing about the Surface Pen is how one can assign different secondary functions into the pen so erase or highlighting is right at your fingertips. That any maybe make it lighter would be sweet. Imo

I know it's not in Apple's DNA, but how about trying something different like a $100 discount for combos.

i.e.
Creative Pack (iPad Pro + Pencil)
Business Pack (iPad Pro + Keyboard)

If it's still running iOS, it's still a large iPhone to me. Those spaced out icon grid cracks me up.

If it was just as easy as you say... you want the best camera with lightning? Get the 9,7". You want the largest display and the good camera? Not possible. But you want the largest display and USB3 transfer speed for SD card? Get the 12,9". You want USB3 transfer speed and the 9,7" screen? Not possible. You want the wider color garmut display and 9,7"? Possible. But you want the 9,7" and 4GB RAM? Not possible.
The screen sizes are not the problem, the problem are the confusing features of each device which give you disadvantages however you decide:
-take the Mini and get an outdated device
-same for the Air2
-take the 9,7" and miss the 4GB RAM and the USB3 transfer speed of the lightning port
-take the 12,9" and miss the wider color garmut screen and the better camera

I think there's quite a point to see confusion in the lineup.
It is as easy as I say... when you focus your thought process on the group that Apple, and every other company focuses on: the mass market consumer. They don't care about any of that gobbledygook you mentioned above. That stuff is for us; tech enthusiasts, geeks, nerds... whatever you want to call us. For the vast majority of people the iPad is a consumption device: look at the most downloaded app charts. Gimme a small, medium, large, or XL and keep it movin' so I can Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Netflix, and Youtube.

I'd bet good money that the base storage iPad, iPhone, iMac, MBA, MBP, etc. is what sells the most in Apple's inventory. Why? Cuz the mass market doesn't care about all that. It's only confusing for those who seem to know the most.:)

Name an industry that sells to the mass market public and the sentiment is the same.

The rMB got an update last year. Although technically it was about 10 days over a year. ;)

The MacBook Air got a base RAM boost last year, but I wouldn't consider that a true update.
That's true, however the MacBook upgrade was quite significant in terms of performance and this year will be even more significant. It with finally be up to a similar standard to the MacBook Air, including graphical performance, and should get a price cut.

The MacBook Air wasn't upgraded because they had plans for the base MBP to replace it.
The iMac couldn't be upgraded until a few days ago, and that may still be true depending on the GPU they've chosen.

The Mac Pro is a mess. They have prototypes, plans, and probably different designs. They are waiting on certain components but they could have released an upgrade by now.
There is no excuse for the Mac mini. It still sells and that good enough for Tim Cook. Not for everyone else though . Although, seeing as it's upgrade cycle is every 2 years I guess it's not terribly off track.

You're engaging in the same behavior of confusing customer and company. Jobs reduced inventory to help Apple. Better products for customers was a happy consequence of that reduction. Customers aren't any more confused by Apple's line up than they are confused by the number of PC's on the market. People aren't confused by the number of TV's Vizio offers. They aren't confused by the number of Corolla's Toyota has on offer. They aren't even confused by the number of phones you can get from Samsung.:) Simply put, they aren't confused.

Complete removal of the home button, or just moving the home button to the back of the device?

Just got myself a Pro 9.7'', no remorse even though I know in 10 weeks or so new ones will probably be unveiled. I trust this design, it is solid, reliable and has nearly everything I want from a tablet. 10.5'' will be a slight improvement in hardware, but the iPad isn't being held back by hardware, it is software! No idea how low powered toy Macs can be used to build serious high quality feature rich Pro iOS apps. I also can't see iOS 11 bringing massive change either. As such I doubt my 1st gen 9.7 Pro will be chugging at all while I have it before resale in a few years.

As long as it replaces the 9.7" rather than making it a fourth option, it should be good.

And I am still wondering why the iPhone 7 did not include a True Tone display.
It replaces the 9.7" the same way the 4" iPhone replaced the 3.5" iPhone, or maybe the same way the 4.7 & 5.5" iPhones replaced the 4" iPhone. Meaning a non-updated version of a 9.7" iPad will hang around for a year or two at a reduced price. Maybe they pull an SE on it, but that is less likely as it isn't the smallest iPad.
