The only remaining reason really is that people want to pirate things.

I've got white screen then when to vpn getting no reboot nor cydia icon nor nothing for about a hundred times. I desist, I will restore a normal iOS and will try later when somebody else releases a better jailbreaking process...

Honestly guys I really fail to see what you are trying to achieve other than piracy and when the next virus comes up that affects jailbroken devices don't complain.

you're seriously misinformed. I never pirated anything, and never had a virus problem in four years of jailbreaking. In fact there were a couple of instances when security vulnerabilities were fixed quickly only by jailbreaking and applying patches, while it took Apple months to issue an update with a fix.

Don't spread fud.

How can they install an app called absinthe during jailbreak but have to connect to internet to install cydia. Sorry guys, something fishy out there.

Not saying that it won't happen - but it's hardly the demographic to target when you have nice open platform like android that has a very large footprint in combination with a majority of users who are highly functional novice computer users at best just like any other smartphone platform.

People who write viruses typically try to maximize their audience. The ratio of users who can run unsigned code in iOS compared to those that can't is so small that the number of those whom actually have something to worry about among them is so much smaller it's not worth the time IMO.

Best advice in any case is - as always - "stay alert." And I promise you'll never hear me complaining about it even if it does happen somehow. I'm fully aware of the risks I'm taking. Not everyone in the game does, most certainly.

It worked ok on my 4S but I lost my camera and messaging icons. they are just blank white squares now. ed

The same thing happened to me with my Music icon. Did you figure out how to fix it? I ended up restoring. I'd rather have my icons show up properly than have a jailbroken phone.

Mine came back as soon as I chose a theme from winter board .

Anyone had their icons go white randomly after this jailbreak? It has happened with the Video, App Store & Cydia app for me a few times turning the iPad on and off usually fixes it.

Redo the jailbreak and instead of opening the app first just do the VPN first. You should get a black screen and then the phone will reboot. I tried opening the app first and I always got the white screen. I reinstalled the jailbreak and did the VPN trick first and it worked.

Worked perfectly for me. Was a little worried that I have a SIM pin, but it was fine.

Just watch the Absinthe window on your computer and do exactly as it says...and be patient.

If I had to offer any suggestion, it would be the automatic closure of the Absinthe window on the Mac when the phone is doing its final reboot. I believe that there is a slight chance that a novitiate might press the [jailbreak] button on the application a second time, which would cause issues.

I had the same problem... if you respring, it should fix it. If not, try restarting your iPad.

Where are you guys downloading it from? The greenpois0n website is overloaded at the moment.

Should I wait until the traffic slows down since people are saying it needs to connect to the website to finish the jailbreak, or is there other websites i can use?

Also, my 4S is 9A405 with firmware 1.0.13. Will the current release work on mine?

Worked without issues here. I had a white calculator icon after trying/removing a theme but as mentioned, a respring fixes it.

Oh how I missed BiteSMS, fakeclockup (speeds up animations) and the Bl1ze HD theme...to name a few. :)

This is a serious question and i hope someone could answer it. I dont get why people keep jailbreaking their iPhone instead of just getting an android? Im an iPhone user and i like it the way it is. if i wanted a jailbroken one, i would simply get a (cheapier) Android..

is it because of the apps? I really just want to know.

I need an unlocked phone, but don't want to pay full price just so I can use my phone outside the U.S. a few times a year with a much lower price international SIM card. I don't like the android interface, also. I've tried it many times thinking I would switch.

The fact that ATT has me with a two year contract and exit penalties should be enough. They don't need to lock it as well. Many other country's providers offer subsidized phones that are not locked.

Getting past the A5 with 5.0 was tough. They have to use iTunes to make it appear you're doing something that Apple doesn't mind, and then connect to a server to get Cydia installed.

This is as legitimate as any other jailbreak, although most of us would freely admit that (1)it is always some kind of risk and (2)by very definition we have found and exploited a weakness in iOS security which, when fully analyzed by miscreants, could very well lead to an unfortunate and widespread incident.

It hasn't happened yet, because the cleverest hackers appear to be on our side and appear to be devoted fans of Apple altogether.

How many freaking times do we have to say THERE IS CURRENTLY NO UNLOCK FOR THE iPHONE 4S???

I don't agree with AT&T either, but that's currently the way it is. If you want to use your phone internationally, you'll need a different type of phone or an unlocked iPhone.

I am surprised that people would suggest that people want to jailbreak to pirate software. Jailbreaking makes it easier to do that, because you can enter a server in your Cydia settings that hosts stolen software, but Cydia doesn't arrive with such a thing.

Most of us are availing ourselves of programming techniques which Apple does not support.

An application like iBlacklist does a hell of a lot more than you could get out of any application in the App Store.

Autoresponder performs functions that Apple doesn't let people develop for the App Store.

MyWi 5.0 (assuming you have a legitimate tethering plan in the first place) allows your devices to automatically link with a low powered Bluetooth connection, seamlessly and efficiently, with no input from the user.

There's all kinds of awesome applications which are coded in ways which Apple simply does not allow because of their own theories of how things should be written, and because of their own ideas of what the iPhone should and should not be doing.

The overwhelming majority of us aren't interested in anything other than innovative programming that allows us to do more with our iPhones and iPads than we'd be able to do, otherwise.

:)

SBSettings

Love having the quick toggles and I have it set that when I press both my volume buttons at the same time my light turns on. I use it constantly.

I use the volume buttons for: hold of up volume= next track. Hold of down volume=previous track. Press both= play/pause track.

I was able to jailbreak my iPad 2 and 4S with no issues. I can't jailbreak my mom's iPad 2 for the life of me. database error, n doesn't work. tried every guide found and nothing. how about they release it for more servers?

just jb'ed my ipad. sending them some monies for their hardwork. good job guys. so far no bugs for me
