I’m very interested to see how Apple pitches this whole launching two generations at the same time thing. Obviously they have to show the 7s/7s Plus first and sell the upgrade over last year’s model, but then how do they segue into the iPhone Pro? “All that stuff was awesome, but forget that and check this out!”

The only thing the 7s/7s Plus will have going for them by the time Apple’s done showing off the iPhone Pro is that they are cheaper. They might as well just spend all the presentation time on the iPhone Pro and then say, “but if you can’t afford that, here’s a modest upgrade over last year.”

I’m probably over thinking it. Apple can and does release MacBooks and MacBook Pro’s at the same time and consumers understand what that means, it’s just the first time they’ve fragmented the iPhone lineup in such a way and I’m not sure the “pro” distinction is as necessary and obvious in the smartphone world.

Obviously this assumes that the high end iPhone will be called the iPhone Pro, but honestly I don’t think any other names makes sense at this point. Unless this is a one-off and won’t happen again, then it might be iPhone X or Anniversary Edition (think they might avoid the word ‘edition’ though...) or whatever, but there’s no way in hell that this will be called iPhone 8. That would only exacerbate this issue of releasing two generations at the same time.

Gold, silver and black... sounds familiar

Will blue and light purple come to the 8s? Yes Apple was first with these colors, but the glass back and these colors is familiar with the S8
So because Apple came out with them first, they're copying Samsung? Lol?

I need some exciting news about Apple Watch. It looks like it will look the same externally. That's why there is no leak.
A rumor a few days ago said new form factor. That's exciting news.

Only 2 to 4 million iPhone 8's?....thats hardly enough to supply the United States let alone the rest of the world. I guess it means no or very limited availability in the UK at launch day and no overnight queues either

I'd like a midnight dark blue color...

But anyway, if supplies are genuinely short, they may as well price the iPhone 8 at some ludicrous $1000+, as they will still definitely sell every single one the factories can produce.
A fully loaded iPhone 7 Plus isn't that much under $1000, so something over $1000 doesn't seem particularly ludicrous for a new flagship phone loaded with all the best new gadgets/tech.

I'd like midnight blue as well...

2-4 million means no proper release in the EU. Pre-order will probably start in US only and maybe UK and Australia included.

The rest of EU will start 2 moths later, DAMN!

There is no reason for Apple not to offer this phone with a rainbow of colours to select from. No other reason than pure laziness.

Besides the color fiasco, I am still very very disappointed about that camera wart, which is getting bigger and bigger, like skin cancer...
Laziness? I guess you are new, and welcome to the forum, by the way. It has nothing to do with laziness, I mean it's not like Tim Cook has to stay up over a workbench crafting these in his garage.

It's because there's a lot of new technology going into this model and low yields on some of the components. It greatly streamlines production and sales to have as few versions or SKU's as possible going out, initially. Three colors in at least two different storage capacities and probably different carrier versions are going to make for enough of a challenge to meet demand for the few different variations they introduce.

The time to introduce new colors would be later when they've been in production awhile. I'm not trying to criticize your post. I made the same complaint about Samsung limiting color releases to certain regions at launch. I had others here schooling me on why that happens from a business perspective.

More like U.S. + China first.

Then rest of world.

1. Requires ownership of an iPad. Not a given.
2. Still requires an expenditure of funds.
3. Yes there are options. One of them being including a fast charger with the phone. It's the most customer-centric option. There are two pov's being discussed. Business - better for Apple to charge*. Customer - better to have the charger included.

*Charging for something just because you can isn't always the smartest option. Sometimes it's better to make the customer feel like you care for them instead of their wallet. Charging extra for a fast charger says I care for your wallet.
True, Apple including the fast charger would be nice but they'd have to increase the price..so I'm ok with
them not including it..and I use my iPad charger til a cheaper option arises.
Not everyone cares about fast charging..YOu charge it at night and most people probable will make it through the day and then connect it again at night..maybe thats what Apples thinking..maybe they're just greedy bastards! :)

A fully loaded iPhone 7 Plus is $1326 (€1129) in EU, which means that the iPhone 8 will cost at least $1500 in EU.
This phone won't be very popular here, I'm pretty confident about that.

It makes sense as three iPhone models in six colors (silver, black, jet black, gold, rose gold, red) is a whole lot of SKUs—especially when factoring in storage capacity. But that's too bad they only released a red model for half a generation. I really wanted to get one, but only if they released it with a black front on the new OLED model.
Isn’t the red iPhone always a few months later?

I'm sure that some of you think of your phone as a fashion statement, I tend to think of it as my phone. So black or silver is fine.

That's fine, and I for the most part don't care about the color either (though I do have preferences) — but this thread is specifically about color changes. And those occur, in part, because of fashion.

Other colors coming in March 2018.

Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if the red one started a twice-annual upgrade schedule — new model in fall, additional colors in spring.

If there are people who burn cash buying Vertu phones, then there are more than enough buyers to keep this iPhone on backorder for months. They can't even handle the AirPods demand. I will keep my 7 plus until the 2nd gen of this OLED iPhone. It should drop in price as every iPhone transitions to an OLED panel. The 7 plus is more than fast enough. I was an early touchbar Macbook adopter only to see a refresh a couple of months ago. This time I'll wait for the refined version.

OH SNAp! You make a good point! They're having good deals on the 7 right now..maybe I should buy one
and then upgrade to the 8S next year?!!

Then again, they're not expecting the iPhone Pro/Edition/Whatever to sell half-a-million a day, like they will with the standard iPhone 7s/7s+. They likely couldn't build that many of them anyway. It'll sell to a few, be coveted by many more, and will work the kinks out of tech that'll show up in the mainstream models a few years down the line.
