Then your point should be, the new iphone can do everything I listed better, so its worth the price.

That pretty much was my point - or at least that seeing it that way is one legitimate view to take.

Both your comments are fair. I think the true beauty of wireless charging is that you get to keep topping off your device's battery. Anytime you're not using your phone, you can set it down on a wireless charger. And unless you're at absolute zero battery, it's not that hard to pick up your device to use, and then set it back down to continue with charging.

When you're regularly topping off your phone's battery, you never worry about battery life anymore.

Lastly, the wireless part is between the phone and the charger, so in that sense, it is wireless. The "wireless" was never meant to be between the charger and the outlet, which wouldn't make sense anyway (how would you supply power?).

Having said all that, wireless charging will be an optional feature. You'll still be able to charge via cable as you always have.

With the wireless charging, I don't really see that much additional benefit in putting the phone on a mat rather than putting it in a dock. The use case it might be best suited to is in a car.

The charging that was mooted at one point where the phone could wirelessly charge from a distance sounded good - so as long as you were home and had a couple of chargers plugged in, the phone could be topping itself up from wherever it happened to be, so long as it was close enough.

Agree! Proximity charging will be a great feature when the technology is ready. I'm hoping and imagining that it'll be like WiFi. Until then, inductive charging is still wireless charging, and a necessary step to get there.

I truly can't believe my eyes that we are getting the 7S. Same design for 4-years and then just releasing the iPhone 8 with all the new Samsung features for only $1000+ (€1300+ in EU).

Meanwhile the IPhone 7 32GB costs €769 and Galaxy S8 €630 in EU with Samsung offering better battery life, IP68, better cameras, facial recognition, iris scanner, larger screen, OLED, VR, Gigabit LTE, QI-charging, Fast charging (included in the box), includes €100 AKG earbuds, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C port and lower price.

In September Apple should discontinue the iPhone 7 and price the iPhone 7S 64GB to $350 and iPhone 8 to $650 to be fair company!

Don't get me wrong, i love Apple and I used to buy their best iPhones for a reasonable price (still higher than competitors) offering me the newest features. Now they are releasing the iPhone 8 alongside the 7S and charging $1000 (€1300 in EU = $1500 US), my GOD! Without doubt they will out-market many beloved customers and give many IOS lovers no choice other than already outdated 7S. 2017-2018 TFT-LCD here I come!!! :D

My main concern remains the potential price of the iPhone 8.

If it's above £800, it's a no go for me. A phone is a phone and truthfully, there aren't many things my 6S plus can't do that the iPhone 8 will be able to.

If you can’t afford the Pro, get the less expensive model. End of problem.

Man the naming is up ***** creek. Ah well.
I'm not due for a new phone until next year so hopefully the 8s brings back Touch ID.. if it is gone from 8

I gotta imagine they're going to change the naming this year, because what happens next year if they release the same type of lineup? 7s can't really jump to the 8 category, even if 8 jumps to 9.

Judging by the ipad and other products, my guess is that the iphone 7s will just be "iphone" and "iphone plus" and the 8 will be the "iphone pro"

i always buy iphone straight out i have AT&T old unlimited data plan $88 a month i always camp out in front of Apple store by the time i spend tax etc apple care its about $1,200 so price no issue for me, i also cant wait for Samsung Note 8 verizon as i cant wait to get rid of Note 5

From all the reports talking about iPhone 8, 7s, and 7s plus, I’m assuming that the iPhone 8 screen size is going to be smaller than the iPhone 7s’ screen. Is this correct? Personally, I want my new iPhone to have the same screen size of my current iPhone (7 plus), but I want the iPhone 8 /:

All good points. For me it’s really a personal or subjective opinion as with the Plus sized iPhone and my uses I tend to finish the day with >50%. I really don’t pay attention to battery life on it. But I’m still curious and looking forward to seeing this new charging.

Thought the iPhone 8 looks stellar I would much prefer a iPhone 8 design but in the size of an iPhone 4s. It might be possible to squeeze a 4.2inch screen in the same size of an iPhone 4s or the size that would give it the same front design of the iPhone 8.
Put simply: iPhone 4s size & flat camera on the back , iPhone 8 front screen & specs (with Touch Id).

iPhone 4s is still the most beautiful phone i have ever seen, simply stunning.

Agree with Moac, be nice if the phone had the screen size of a 7, but smaller overall dimension. Would prefer a flat camera, even at the expense of the camera quality. When I went to take a real photograph I use a real camera.

Yes, they all have my mentioned parameters.

As somebody else posted: "My iPhone is not a fashion statement. It is a smartphone first"!

Our personal design tastes are just that and don't matter. I liked the iPhone 4 BRAUN/RAMS school design, but it's no longer used. So, should I go Android over that? Of course not!

The current iPhone design is actually too slippery for me, but I always use a case. Some complain about the camera bump, a real life threatening issue in todays world. It may end the world as we know it.

So, whatever they dream up is fine with me. I am using the phone, not the design.

Put Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, HTC..... in a case and you'll see how important phone designs are.

Since Apple sells millions of these with every release I just can't see a design problem.
More important issues in the world than Apples iPhone design.
What a complete nonsense.
Every product in the world - even a brick - is part of a design fashion in some way. This is because taste tends to be time-bound. If you ignore design, you are ignoring design in the house, architecture, clothing, car, consumables, and the electronics, bicycle industry, everywhere. If you want to lock up yourself in Joni Ive's bezels and his nerdy work ethos, happy hiking. But don't deny the others that don't.

True , if they released an 4s sized iPhone Apple would give me a reason to actually buy a tablet , iPad , and not just use my iPhone 7 for all tasks.
I mean , why would an iPhone 7s person get an iPad if not for the pen to draw?
Many of us actually want a phone - iPhone and not tablets with phone functions.

I most enjoyed the iPhone when I could oh so easily operate it with one hand --- I could hug it with my palm.

I wonder how many people are going to pony up $1,000 for the OLED iPhone 8.... Will probably sell like hot cakes.

considering the mass majority does month to month payments and is on some kind of upgrade plan, I would say a ton.

Well, if they want to include wireless charging they have to make the back glass as well... There's no other way...

I didn't know we were expecting wireless charging in anything other than the 'new' iPhone that everyone is obsessed with. Thought we were just expecting internals bumps in the poor-people models.

There is no iPhone 8 form factor.
Just a iPhone 6 ver. 3 (as you might observed as you have the ver. 2 in your hands)
Some may like it (obviously, as they have little choice...)
Others will say that this is the proof of the ultimate lackluster design culture at the current Apple

The form factor really is getting bland. I'm just sticking around because of iOS at this point.

4.7" and 9.7" is a massive difference. That and battery life are two very good reasons to have an ipad/iphone....even if you have a plus.

If there are only 2 to 4 million units available on launch day for the 8 then I wonder how those units will be distributed among carriers, third party retail stores and Apple online store

"Shortage at launch" is nothing new.

I've upgraded every year since the iPhone 3G, and have always had a very tough time getting a new phone on launch day. The last few years have been particularly difficult, especially when I tried to order a 7 Plus in jet black. A week after I put in that order, I cancelled it and ordered a matte black phone which was slated to ship far sooner (even a week after ordering began).

So, of course there will be a shortage at launch. The only question will be "how bad". I'm guessing no worse than last year.

These rumors are ridiculous. I can see Jonny and Tim reading Macrumors on their lunch break, laughing their pants off at the chinese rumors of "7s" and "8." Why on any planet would Apple, of all companies, confuse the naming convention of the phone? That is ridiculous. They will choose one or the other, but not both. Also, the Sonny Dickson photo is LITERALLY an iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus that he has taken some fine-grit sand paper to the corners, which is also ridiculous. The "iPhone 8" in the photo is the most accurate depiction. This could very well be the year that only one size is released, because it will be a + size screen in a smaller chassis, similar to the smaller flagship size. There will be no need for 2 screen sizes, which will also dramatically improve performance for the new flagship phone. Apple will continue to offer the 7 and 7+ as cheaper alternates.
