To me this says "We have run out of innovations, and are taking the easy way out: a new color".

This is not a good sign.

Yes, because the only changes Apple is now allowed to make (to appease the trolls) must be earth-shattering disruptions.

You guys all know that you are not forced to buy it, right? I don't like it personally, but does it affect me? No at all.

Breathe in, breathe out and move the **** on.

They probably did a research and found out there are enough rappers, celebrities and basketball players to make it worth launching a gold one.

They already encase their devices in actual gold anyway?

Let the matching gold iWatch rumours begin!

Wouldn't it be nice if the iWatch were curved glass, with screen backgrounds that could be made to match (chameleon-like) to whatever you put it against?
Automatic matching of shirts, suits, etc.
Just thinking out loud here...

Gold makes a lot of sense in Asia, just sayin´

"Asia" is a pretty big place. Only a complete idiot would assume that people all over Asia have the same tastes. I have some colleagues from India who told me that India is a pretty big place, and only a complete idiot would think that Indians are all the same, and one ex-colleague from China told me exactly the same thing about China.

Many of you are missing the point entirely

This phone is for customers in China, India and that region of the world where gold is a more popular color.

Also, stop with the idolizing of Steve Jobs; as if he was immune to bad ideas. This isn't a post-Cook Apple decision, it's just an Apple decision. Jobs would have likely made the same move. When you have billions of potential customers, it's wise to cater to them. It's just business. Apple is just a company. They just want everyones' money.

Us in the US and Europe are becoming less of a priority anyway; the juiciest markets are in Asia.

I'm sure Apple's designers will come up with a lovely shade of gold.
My question is, how will it wear? I just have a feeling that gold will really show scratches and dings.

My watch is now about twelve years old, it is worn daily, and it looks like new. Well, not like new, like an item that has been used and is the more beautiful for it. It can be done if you know what you are doing.

Yes, this new color option is going to be the only new feature of the 5S.

Actually, a silver case is the only new feature of the 5S. Gold case is the only new feature on the 5G. And there is a copper version in the works too, which will be called the 5C.

Do you remember the cheers and excitement when the white iPhone was finally-- finally available? Remember the audience reaction when Steve Jobs introduced the new iPad - in white? And that it would be shipping from day one? The crowd went nuts!

Over a new color! Nothing other than a color!

Now.... they offer a 3rd choice and everybody's got their undies in a wad. If you don't like the gold, don't buy it!

Hmmmm..... Funny how I only stereotype gold or champaign naff bling stuff with these people:

As opposed to this:

But I guess that tells us how much some of you lot actually get out?

Not good for product innovation when weeks before launch the big news is the color of the phone.

Apple 'MIGHT' release a gold/champagne colour iPhone - hate it looks gross!
Apple 'WILL' release a gold/champagne colour iPhone - love it looks great!

I know the gold color is very popular in other countries such as India, so that may be the reason for the color. I don't see this doing too well in North America.

White and gold? meh.

If it was black and gold I'd buy one and have a Bruins logo stenciled on it.

Here's most likely what the color of the device will be. And I say most likely because its not a mockup but actual leaked parts. Every day when I'm driving down the freeway I see champagnes colored cars on the road. My sister just bought a champagne colored Lexus SUV. I don't think that color is unpopular in the USA.

Flawed logic
look at history;
The first imac came out in one color than they experimented with all kinds of color options. Look at the iMac today! Certainly has evolved with inumerable
inovations in design and function.

How about the white iPod,
did that end innovation when they came out with color?
hardly.

the only thing non inovating is the originality of peoples post on these forums

Volkswagen Commercial

Ok, I'm just wondering here... Has anyone seen the TV Commercial for the Volkswagen Passat. The girl mocking her father at about 10-11 seconds in looks to me to be holding an iPhone with a gold back. It doesn't look like a case and the quality is poor, but it sure looks like it.

A family sits around the dinner table discussing their newly-purchased Volkswagen Passat during the 'Best. Thing. Ever' Sale in unnaturally deep, satisfied voices.
