Life is normal here in Australia. Because of masks and lockdowns in the beginning. Seriously, you Americans are the worst. Too selfish to put on a mask to protect your fellow citizens. You’re still mired in your first wave.

I’m on memorial #9 here, and I live about as far from a city as you can get in this rural state, in an area full of people still ignoring it after 8 straight months of constant coverage. The bars are packed every weekend, no precautions taken, bc... I just gave these people two paragraphs of the benefit of the doubt, but reading them back, realized I just don’t care about them or their bs anymore, and deleted them.

As it continues to pick up pace ravaging its way through the countryside, christmas & new years gatherings are also coinciding with having run out of doctors and hospital beds. In largely uninsured populations. We can expect to see these people putting a pretty good dent in their numbers again by mid Jan.

You're right. His math is wrong. It's 1.8% in the US currently.

17,900,000 cases. 318,000 deaths.

318000 / 17900000 = 0.0177653.... and how do we change a decimal into a percentage? We multiply by 100... right. So shift the decimal point two digits to the right and we have... 1.77653. Or, 1.8, rounded.

And, you know... it's probably quite a bit higher than that, since this only accounts for hospital deaths. Not those that never presented themselves to a hospital and just died, undiagnosed.
I just hope you’re not serious. All that effort and you still don’t get it?

The director of the CDC has said cases are 10X confirmed. Try to spend another 3 paragraphs on what that would do to your “death rate.”

I have a masters in mathematics and my entire job is math.

seriously. What is wrong with you? Behind every number is a person. I am literally speechless about this ignorance. You can’t even do the least and wear a mask? Really? American selfishness is always 🤯

I have a family member who can't wear a mask without throwing their neck out. They have spent more than $1,000 on extra medical and chiropractic bills because of the mask mandate.

Both my wife and I had the virus very early on and so I see no reason for us to have to continue to wear masks as we are immune (and if we are not, then the vaccine is worthless as that is how vaccines work). I wear a mask to walk 15 feet from the door to my table at our local restaurant hangout almost every day. It's a ridiculous process.

When the President tells the people the virus is a hoax that will go away, that sets the tone for the response. It’s no wonder the country has been decimated. You didn’t take it seriously from the very top.
The fact that the country can dismiss 100 x 9-11s is a symbol you still don’t take it seriously.
You watch too much CNN. “Decimated?” 😂😂😂

Trump NEVER said it was a hoax. Ready to be fact checked by CNN?

The 25-second ad begins with a clip of Trump at a campaign rally on February 28 in South Carolina. The ad plays a quick clip of Trump saying "the coronavirus" then it cuts to him saying "and this is their new hoax." Text on the ad reads, "Trump in public: 'Hoax.'"

Facts First: This is a misleading attempt to suggest that Trump specifically called the coronavirus a hoax. While Trump's comments were a bit confusing, Biden's ad leaves out important context and dishonestly edits the two soundbites together.

Why are other countries struggling just as much? Idiots at the top? If only they said the right thing, it’d all be fine?

What we should have done is lied about the whole thing like China and our response would “lead the world.”

I can't believe how many Thumbs-Up this comment got. It has the essensce of what is wrong.... selfishness. Me. Me. Me. Those of us that actually think about others before ourselves understand what it actually takes to keep businesses open while keeping people safe. The stores are closed because people did not make the right personal choices to protect others.

Rant over.
Just shows how many people don't think straight. Also I wouldn't pay attention to all those upvotes. There are 25 upvotes but there are 17 downvotes haha so not everybody is brainwashed in disbelief.

If you have a math degree, then you realize that the two events can be exclusive of each other (the number of cases actually being 10X higher and the death rate).

In the post mortem, they now test all deceased for Covid-19 so the mortality of Covid-19 is pretty much known. Before May when they weren't testing the deceased for Covid-19, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 were definitely under reported.

As far as people catching Covid-19, testing is usually only done on those exhibiting symptoms. That's why they surmise that the infection rate is probably 10X higher.

Excuse me, but what?!?

There is no general immunity, even if you had it. Plenty of cases where people had it and caught it again. How long you’re immune after an infection depends on the individual person. If we are lucky, it works like the flu shots, which means one flu shot per year just before the season starts.

If a person dies that had Covid-19, the death is attributed to Covid-19.

I think that this offsets the probable unreported deaths and the 1.8% US death rate that the poster proposed is probably a good approximation.

That’s how cause of death works. If you have a disease... and the sequela of the disease killed you... you died of that disease.

AIDS isn’t what ultimately killed Freddie Mercury. Pneumonia did. But we all say AIDS is his cause of death. Why? Because AIDS is the reason he had pneumonia.

There won’t be an offset... it’ll only go up from whatever the final number ends at as those unattributed deaths get pinned to something, if they do at all, in retrospect.

I think that the Covid-19 vaccine will be similar to the flu vaccine.

The flu is also in the corona virus family and the flu vaccine gives an increased resistance to the flu for four months or so (you need a flu vaccine shot every flu season).

The flu vaccine does not give you immunity to the flu and you need to keep taking it.

Good thing I didn't insult anyone then, isn't it? The guy is trolling and in his role of a troll, spreading lies, nonsense and conspiracy theories. As to why he's trolling, I don't know. Again, might be an actor or writer. He did a great job in doing it, very believable. He can not be real, no person in their right mind would actually believe all this is a hoax. He's probably sitting at home having a good laugh at everyone.
Looks like you did, ruh roh!

I have only received the flu vaccine once, it ended up giving me the flu, and I never had the flu before. I was the sickest I’ve ever been.

Since the the vaccine ended up giving me the Flu, I never took it again. And guess what, I never got the flu again in 17 years and going. And I’ll likely never take the coronavirus vaccine too.

I hope you’re not serious. If you are - Congratulations at failing still, then. The only cases that are counted are those that present themselves to hospitals. The same is true for deaths.

That face, and the fact he said that in June... which would’ve made the number 24 million from 2.4. Now it’s the end of December and we don’t need approximations based on an antibody test that the same CDC you’re referencing stated is “wrong half the time”... we have increased daily testing more than 3 fold since June, so we have much better actual numbers to reference wrt cases.

The flu vaccine did not, and can not, give you the flu. It’s DEAD and can’t transmit the disease. It is quite literally impossible.

Be happy that you can even walk to a restaurant table. Our restaurants have been closed since the beginning of November and I don’t see them opening again before April at the earliest

You're right. It's by hypothetical cases (CDC said it's a billion cases in the US) by hypothetical deaths (The trump said it's 5,000 deaths max).

Be glad, I know a lot of people who had or currently have Covid and I have friends who have had friends or relatives die from it.

I know people - including my own family - that have died from all sorts of things in 2020. The one with a 99.98% survival rate though - WITHOUT A VACCINE - is why we have to close everything. What a joke.

The world functions by taking death in stride. Those close to the person who died are grieving and those close to them - that's it. We don't amp of death to make people live in fear for anything else. I'm sorry you can't remember how you lived prior to March 2020, but you never focused on any other causes of death - including those with millions year after year - in the way that you are focusing on this.

Actually there’s more than 1 way to calculate death rates, and mine is one of them. Death-to-case ratio. Derp.

the others are:

Crude death rate
Cause-specific death rate
Proportionate mortality
Age-specific
Infant mortality
Maternal mortality
Post-neonatal mortality

... but those are calculated as X in 1000. Or X in 100,000.

The “survival rate” is nowhere near 99.95%, unless you divide by the entire population, which is asinine unless and until everyone in the population has been exposed and infected. You can’t die from a virus that you haven’t been exposed to.

You do realize you can take a sampling of people and multiply it out?

So no one is visiting Australia from all of these other places where they didn't mask and lockdown? Sure. If it was as rampant as they are claiming you would be suffering from it as well. The fact that you are not should tell you everything.

Also, outside of a couple of states in America, exactly where are they not masking? It is everywhere and still spreading. Flu down to 0.7 percent though. Pretty amazing.

Perhaps this is correct, although it may not have been the flu, it was the sickest I have ever been in my life. Not something I want to do again. Especially since, apparently, I’m immune to the flu an coronavirus. No need to vaccinate something my body already does a great job fighting
