Bear in mind that Amazon and Apple can still screw us over by realising an app with no 4k support. I hope kindness and common sense will prevail.

Its really a joke. They anounced the app in june, right? It maybe takes a week to build an app for tvos, specially when u already have one for ios. If amazon and apple would work together as real partners in this case, the app would be already released.

UHD was promised at WWDC.

Interesting. I'd be happy with just an HD app to start with, as there's not a lot of 4K content I watch on Amazon Prime. Either way, unless they promised UHD during the release keynote, then there's no specific promise to deliver it by the end of the year, as there is with the App itself.

Did they also promise Dolby Atmosphere during the keynote, or was that after the fact?

I just called Amazon to complain about lack of Prime Video app. I re-joined Prime in July because of the Amazon tweet and WWDC statements confirming the upcoming release of a Prime Video app. The agent apologized for the lack of app and offered me a full refund of the Prime membership fee, which I accepted.

I will likely re-join Prime when the promised app is released. I may be waiting a long time....

Interesting. I get so much more out of my Prime status than video -- it's already paid for itself in free shipping alone. While I realize that's not true for everyone, given that the app is available on the iOS platform, the Mac, most if not all smart TVs, it seems excessive to cancel Prime over the lack of availability on the ATV alone.

That said, maybe that's what's needed. I certainly intend to take my 3.5 month old ATV 4K to the Apple Store and demand a full refund on January 2, if the app hasn't been released as Apple promised. Sadly that little act of protest will be completely lost in a sea of Holiday purchases, refunds and exchanges.

I heard that Amazon Prime app is in Apple hands for approval. So I expect it in February 2018 at the earliest!

Apple has no interest in delaying the app. Also, they would risk a class action.

I believe that Amazon put the app on hold, considering the global launch of the fire stick in 100 countries that happened last week.

I think they will release the app between the black friday (11/24/2017) and the second season of the grand tour (12/08/2017).

I agree. Ideally they should release it by next Wednesday, so people can binge during the long Thanksgiving weekend.

But, all the same, I'm keeping my ATV box to return to Apple for a full refund if it isn't released by January 1.

Which is total rip off. Here in the Netherlands you pay ~90 dollar incl. taxes and shipping for a slow and locked-in device costing 39 dollars in the US with more features (e.g. Alexa).

Locked-in as is in no Google Playstore, some apps (e.g. MrMc) in Amazon's own store, others you've to sideload.

it costs 39 € here in Italy for prime customers on amazon.it .

I hope the tell you no. There is never any guarantee that any app will be on the Apple TV tomorrow. So anything could come and go. It’s ridiculous amazon hasn’t gotten their app out yet but it’s you who decided to buy it for something that didn’t even exist yet.

While I want the Amazon App to come out im not going to return my ATV. That wasn’t the reason why i bought it in the first place- the amazon app was just a bonus

Agreed! I will watch it on my laptop with HDMI or Airplay before I get rid of my ATV4.

Just purchase a new 3 ft. 4K hdmi 2.0b cable that works with HDR10 and Doblevision today. Known brands names were in the $40-$60 range. Got one off of eBay for $5 with free shipping from China.

Anyone know the status on the tvos app? Last I heard it was coming late summer. When I Google, I only get results from months ago.

Is Amazon purposely delaying it because they released new hardware?

You sure that won’t damage your equipment?
