I can't even find myself getting worked up over Morgan's newest breakdown, knowing he's leaving to join Fear.

My wife mentioned to me that she had read about this. I'm not sure what to think. It would seem that the timelines are much different between the two shows so I'm not sure where Morgan would fit in the FTWD sequence of events.

Another thing she mentioned was that the actress who plays Maggie has just signed on to another show in a lead role. So, that made us question her future on the show as well. I guess we'll just have to see how it all plays out.

With Carl's death the TV show has taken a radical departure from the comic's storyline, so, everything is up in the air at this point.

I'm not buying it. I'll be back here on Feb 20-whatever to eat crow as needed :D

That being said, I'll take my crow with extra gravy :D

How is your crow? ;)

I don't know who has the final say in what direction they take, but I have heard Robert Kirkman say some of the changes are things he believes make the story better. I posted something similar to this earlier in the thread, but I do wonder who makes the ultimate decision regarding how and where they deviate from the source material. Like you say, there have been other "liberties" taken where they have taken one role in the book and given it to another character on the show, but overall they have followed most of the major story arcs fairly faithfully. I would say Carl's death is the second major character adjustment they have made.

In the comic Michonne is not a love interest of Rick, instead it is Andrea. Obviously, in the show they chose to kill off Andrea and had Michonne take on elements of Andrea's character as written in the comics. Don't get me wrong, Michonne is still a bad mama jama in the comics, but so is Andrea.

That was all you got out of last night's episode?

I can't even find myself getting worked up over Morgan's newest breakdown, knowing he's leaving to join Fear.

I'm starting to wonder if all the flash forwards we've been seeing are only Carl's imagination, and not real at all. Especially given the final 12 seconds of last night's extended episode.
Carl said that those scenes were from his imagination. It was the life he wanted for his father and sister. Morgan and carol are just completely ridiculous at this point. Morgan’s back and forth with all life is sacred and then being a killing machine is getting old. What else really happened? Not much. A long episode to watch a kid die. The direction is so bad at this point, the opening segment was almost unwatchable.

I think Im out at the end of this season. I was just bored and rolled my eyes way too many times during this week's episode. I really would like to see the show to the end to see what happens but I don't think I can do it. What did everyone else think about the last episode?

Season 8 Episode 12- The Key
Interesting dynamic between Simon and Dwight. I suspect, Simon at this point is on thin ice. Negan was also in an interesting predicament at the end of the episode. And the new people who showed up at Hilltop were interesting.

Above. But despite this, my interest in this series has wained significantly. I’m vowing to stick with it until the Negan conflict is concluded. This season although it contains a lot of action, feels like it all runs together. In hindsight, it’s not the best situation for a series like this to be in.

Yes, it could pull me back in, but I’m feeling like I don’t really care anymore, which is bad for the future of me watching this show.

I’m only halfway through this weeks episode. In the past, I wouldn’t have even read your post until I was done. Now I’m like meh, why not? I’ll probably bail at the end of this season and if they finally announce an end date to the series, catch up with the plot online (posts not actually watching) and watch the final season to see what happens. I’ll probably be in a nursing home by then.

I had the same thoughts as I was watching this week's show! The most interesting part was finding that Simon is going rogue and Negan had no clue what they'd done to the [strange] folks at the garbage dump. What she plans on doing with Negan now is anyone's guess.

As to the rest...I'm missing the unity of the core characters. I'm tired of a bad human showing up and trying to take over. First the Governor and now Negan. These story arcs take too long.

Why did they introduce the unusual group in the trailer with their key to the future? It just felt like filler.

These last few episode were some of the best in a long time IMO. Rick’s moral compasses Glenn and Carl are gone but he’s facing his biggest enemy ever and the way he’ll handle Negan will probably define what’s next for Rick. Some exciting developments I think.

Sure, there’s reason to be critical about some plot decisions, but it may end up just fine.

Moreover, “The Key” provides a seriously great look at a possible future for the group.

I’ll still be watching whatever happens next, but I thought I’d share some of the reasons why I’m still enjoying TWD. Haven’t read or seen anything from the comics BTW.

The new characters are beyond ridiculous. Here’s all our knowledge: stuff you could find in any library. Aren’t we great. Give me a break.

So, I must say that last night's episode sort of frustrated me. I don't like when the producers/writers play fast and loose with the rules per se. The whole plan of using walker stuff as poison on your weapons to take folks out is a great plan. However, if you simply wound someone then it will take time for the resulting infection to actually bring about death. Our most recent example of this is Carl who suffered with the infection for days after being bitten. There is no way someone like Tobin who was simply cut with an infected blade would immediately die in his sleep and turn the very same night.

I guess I appreciate consistency when it comes to this kind of stuff. Sure, if someone is mortally wounded then we would expect them to die quickly from their severe wounds, but that's not what we saw play out in the episode. Folks who were slightly wounded, but stable, died and turned within a matter of hours. The only credence they gave in the episode was one of the wounded saying "this fever makes sense now". It's not an aggressive infection that kills you within hours. They have repeatedly shown over the life of the show that people who are "infected" can take days to die from the infection alone.

A total swing and a miss in my opinion.

If you did watch Talking Dead then they showed a preview for the upcoming season of Fear. Based on what I saw, it would appear (from a timeline perspective) that Morgan is meeting up with the Fear characters after his time with the TWD characters. So, I expect the current TWD season to end with Morgan leaving the group to move on. Part of me thinks the timelines don't match up this way, but who knows. Time doesn't seem to really matter in the zombie apocalypse and the writers can do whatever they want.

Yeah, I’m out after this season. Last nights episode was so bad. They keep changing the rules on how you can turn, how fast it takes to turn. The characters are dumb as dirt. Who would sleep next to a severely injured man who could have simply died of his injuries anyway and turned in the middle of the night? How did no one wake up when the walker fell loudly down the stairs? Who leaves the key for the pen out in the open or decides to shut the generators off at night to save gas after an attack? Same storylines repeated; carol and a messed up kid. Morgan going nuts. Am I a good leader?

The latest episode sure was a mess. They finally allowed for some action to happen, but instead of ending it there most of the saviors survive miraculously. The infected knife trick sure looks like something everyone could’ve used in previous seasons, puzzling why they’d introduce that now and it’s inconsistent like others where saying.

They really have something to make up for in the next few episodes. Will keep watching to find out, I’m just too invested. Still hopeful.

Good point about the saviors surviving. They should have been wiped out. Half a dozen people shooting them with automatic weapons and miss most people? Silly.

Ok, I admit I have a crush on Maggie (Lauren Cohan). :)

There are still moments that grab me, but I can’t say I’ll continue watching next season.

So jadis is really british too? Is any actor actually American on this show? I bet Lucile is really a cricket bat

Show sucked as usual. Two more to go and then I’m going to try and quit. Why in the hell would jadis leave a bag with all that stuff there and then Negan alone? And how the hell did he open the bag get a gun in one hand, pile up a bunch of photos and hold a lit flair in the other hand. Both hands were clearly tied down before that.

But at least he live to give the oh so clever if **** could **** a **** ****** **** line. Who writes this crap?

Rick killing the guys whom he gave his word to and then saved his life from the walkers was absolutely ridiculous. How is this guy still a the”good guy”? He is a piece of **** ******* out by a ****.

I think that's the point. They want to emphasize that there aren't really any "good guys" in this show. Everyone's hands are dirty, it's just a matter of how dirty. Both Maggie and Rick have pushed things farther than they ever have before.

Hey we are running out of bullets, let's always fire our weapons on full auto! You'd think they would learn to conserve bullets and stop with the spray and pray technique.

I really liked this episode. Negan finally got a tiny bit of backstory and gained some depth to his character.

And where the hell did that helicopter come from?! Who still has the fuel and means to operate such a thing? Must be a seriously resourceful group. Is the world about to get a whole lot bigger again?

This dissapointed me about Rick. Some of the men he killed seemed salvageable. :( I’m getting fatigued with the story. Maybe 8 seasons is enough.

I've been a _huge_ critic of the show, especially the last few seasons - the previous EP was so incredibly asinine ... but I sort of dug on this one.

I’m out after this season. Will catch up online about what happens so I can watch final season if I live long enough to see it.

I read the comic through Negan
being caught and held at Alexandria
and it seems like not only have they dragged his story out to accodate a TV season, but it’s not as concise and well told as the comic and for all I know Carl is dead in the comic too, but iwas it as mundane as just getting a bite? Yes, this would be realistic, but is it good story telling? Why not have him turn the wrong way and fall off a cliff? ...if you see my point. ;)

For those still reading the comic: I’m still pissed about them killing off Andrea in the show when she was still going in the comic. Has she since bit it? And did Ekieziel’s Tiger meet an average death too in the comic or was this a TV money decision? ;)

I doubt it.

It likely sets up the "next group" of people that will drive the plot line in the next season after the Saviors plot line finally wraps up. The problem with The Walking Dead is the "group" (now always too large and with too many revolving characters introduced only to be killed) is always pitted against a new ever more evil and twisted opposing group of humans (The Governor, Terminus, Saviors) and "the dead" have become comic relief or the occasional nuisance. People certainly don't seem too concerned about them anymore, and viewers aren't either sadly.

IMHO what this shows needs is a new plot idea (a potential cure for the living, perhaps an unexpected zombie die off beginning, a huge jump forward in time with full cities being reborn etc.?) vs. small group vs. small group. Unfortunately if you are at all familiar with the comic book it continues down the same path we have been on. Hopefully we have some hope now that a new show runner has been announced for next season with a supposed direction to make the show "more like seasons 4-5".

We shall see.
