That was a great season. I totally thought that David Archuleta won that one as did David Cook. If Kris wins, I will be happy but also very surprised.

I actually don't know what to think about that. It could really go either way with these two. I like them both for different reasons. Problem is- I don't see Kris having much of a career. I like his voice, but i don't know how marketable that voice is. It's certainly not distinctive. I guess we'll see! It's gonna be a breat night for sure though!

Funny, I think the exact opposite. I think Kris would sell a ton of records, and I think Adam would have his niche, but definitely not be a "mainstream" success. Every Idol winner thus far has had some type of success but I think really only Clarkson and Underwood have found "mainstream" success. I think Kris, teamed up with a good songwriter, would appeal to a much larger base than Adam.

Adam also, to me, has a love him or hate him type of sound. Like Archuletta, those voting for him may be outweighed by those voting against him.

I keep hearing this. We've had far more wacky people in music that Adam Lambert who were/are successful. What is it that scares people about Lambert? And why would people vote against Archuleta? That guy was totally mainstream.

No doubt, the music industry's had some crazies!:D

Not sure people are "scared" of Adam, they just don't like his sound. It can be pretty high and screechy at times and not everyone likes their music like this.

IMHO, people voted against Archuletta because they were sick of him. He sounded the same night after night. His night consisted of smiling and acting coy, and making 13 yr old girls go crazy. That just got to some people, they found it completely annoying.

Same as with Adam, some people find his sound rather annoying. My wife's one of them.:D

Personally I think he's had great nights for the most parts, but the schrill does get to me at times. I also can't imagine what type of record he'd make. I've never been a big Queen fan or an avid David Bowie listener and I think the voting majority tonight may not be either. If this is the sound they think they'll get from him, they may opt for Kris instead.

Kris' biggest problem tonight is convincing all those not in Adam's camp that he's worthy of the Idol crown. He doesn't have to out sing Adam, he just needs to prove he's a worthy alternative.

Perhaps. But I think it's clear that Adam has far more natural talent. The guy's already a star. He'd most likely make a rock album as he stated Zeppelin was one of his favorite bands. It should be no mystery what record he wants to make.

Adam's a talented singer, I agree. But that doesn't mean he's the next American Idol. The best singer doesn't always win.

As for what his album will sound like, I don't think anybody knows what that guys gonna bring. Like Bowie and Zepplin, their albums weren't always something we've heard before, so I don't see how you could know how it would sound. Rock? Maybe, but not like anything that's out there today...

And that's OK. It's been a long time since we've heard something different. ;)

I am on the west coast, how are Kris and Adam's debut songs? I am crossing my fingers for Kris, as I think a win for him will be his only chance at decent record sales.

Win or lose, Adam is guaranteed multi-platinum status and probably a role in a blockbuster movie. If Kris had a photogenic appearance, it would help. Adam looks like a movie star already. Sometimes a non-photogenic, non-dancing contestant wins like Taylor Hicks but he may be an anomaly on this program.

I am glad it appears Taylor hasn't dyed his hair, as neither have I. :)

First of all the single sucks, like usual. I think Kris is the better singer, Adam the better performer. I would rather see Kris win it all but he won't.

Long term Kris has a better musical career, Adam will have a theatre career. I don't see Adam being more than a gimmick singer. He is better suited for the stage.

I think Kris has way more versatility from style to style, but Adam has that crazy three octave range that seems to wow the judges to no end.

Let's say Adam wins, I bet that if next year somebody identical to Adam comes along, the judges won't be SO impressed.

Adam isn't really a singer he screaches. He doesn't have the tone that Kris does. Kris is more an all around musician and can adapt to more styles. That is why I see him having the longer career.

That single is not suited for either one of them.

Gosh, I know. Hurricanes and mountains? It was completely over the top . I'm not sure any of the finale songs have been radio hits except Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" anyway.

By the way, I was watching it back and noticed they put the lyrics on the TelePrompTer. Kinda shady since they play up how fast they have to learn the song.

I think the screeching gets on my nerves, but I do think it is a legitimate form of singing Adam does well even though it's not for me. Kara's single was slightly better with Kris. The second song definitely was won by Adam. Kris won the opener.

If judging from the whole season, Adam will win by a mile. If judged from tonight, we are talking about a closer competition which Adam will probably still win.

As for looks/performance, Adam put Kris to shame. Adam not only knows how to own the stage, but he knows how to look comfortable in his stage clothes. Kris looks a little awkward no matter what he wears. As much as this is a singing competition first, Adam's amazing stage presence, even if it is a little too "Phantom of the Opera" to quote Simon, is what will give this season to Adam.

Both sang their hearts out, but Adam was a little pitchy on the last song. Kris should have hit the high notes, but at least he kept himself in tune by playing it safe.

This was an entertaining hour showcasing opposites. I can't wait until tomorrow!

Adam may be too intense, too rock, too goth, too glam, too showy for American Idol, that's all.

I don't think the Idol stage has ever seen such a charismatic persona in their 8 seasons. If he didn't resort to using his high voice too much, I would be a huge fan of his. With a little training, and the use of proper restraint, Adam can improve and win over people who think he is just too much, too Vegas, or too Broadway.

If someone like Velvet Revolver (one of my favorite bands) reformed without their current drug induced singer, Adam could step in and fit that band like a glove. If Queen ever decided to regroup, Adam could step into Freddy Mercury's shoes. However there are bands where I couldn't see Adam in like REM, Coldplay, the Eagles, Metallica, or Rascal Flatts.

Adam is narrow in scope, but what he does, he is perfect for.

That is the problem. I don't know where he fits in with modern music. He would have fit in great in the late 70's glam rock scene. I don't see where he can grab a wide enough audience today.

Adam, to me, the screeching is like nails on a chalkboard. I want to get past it but I just can't. I'll be hoping for Kris.

EDIT: And why did the judges pick a song for the two of them to perform when they admited that the song's key was too high for Kris? Seems like a disadvantage to me.

I fully expected Adam to break out "The Show Must Go On" or some other Queen power ballad during rock week, but I was wrong.

I think Kris will get the win based on last night's performances. As the judges said, he can deliver that message in his songs that people connect with.

And does it really matter who wins anyway? They've both already won in terms of career advancement. It might even be a career advantage to lose tonight so you're not tied into the contracts, producers, and that God awful single they wrote.

Sid note: I really do like that "Mad World" song Adam sang. He sang it better weeks ago, but seeing it last night reminded me of how good that song really is. I think Tears for Fears originally wrote and performed it, but their version was awful. The version on the Donnie Darko soundtrack was WAAAAY better.
