I am eligible to upgrade mine with VZ in September. I am likely to get an iPhone SE then, and give this 6 Plus to my mom and wait for the iPhone 8 instead. Easier decision for me since it will be cheaper to get a powerful SE for nothing since now I am using my iPad Pro 9.7 instead of the phone.

I can place it down within a split second, its really very easy - and I grab it out because i've put a dab of hot glue under the dock so I can pull up without the dock moving. Simple - hence there's no advantage to wireless charging for me what so ever.

And for the record if you want you can add it to the iPhone anyway very easily, but its useless so there's no point.
Awesome, so now your dock is permanently in that position and can't be moved if you want your phone in a different spot.

Sure you can add it to the iPhone, but you need a bulky case that doubles the thickness of the phone and needs to be plugged into the lightning port.

I'm supposed to upgrade my iPhone 6 in February 2017. On the one hand, I don't really want to wait until September 2017, as my current phone is quite slow and I'd really appreciate faster touch ID and 3D Touch.

But it looks like the iPhone 7 will be really, really boring, and hardly an upgrade, while waiting 7 months would lead to a massive upgrade... but that's an extra 7 months after already having the 6 for two years.

I really wish Apple would keep its tick-tock cycle. I like being on the non-S cycle, while skipping to the iPhone 8 will presumably place S-upgraders on the non-S path, and vice versa.
So... your iP6 is slow? How can you tell?

If by wireless charging they mean over the air wireless charging, than yes, this will be the biggest upgrade ever. But if it's the 3 dot accessory port on the iPad Pro, than it's not even worth mentioning.

Uh, I predict 2017 will have the "iPhone 7s"...

Is the 3G/3GS, 4/4S, 5/5S, 6/6S pattern not obvious enough?

Maybe 2018 will have the iPhone 8.

Usually I buy a new iphone every two years (always on the "mega cycle"). But I think I will skip this year for the first time - only based on all these rumours

Why did I question the author that said wireless charging is "next generation"? Because it's not.

What's not done right about the current implementation? What differences do you think Apple could possibly make that current wireless charging capable phones can't do now?
They're talking about truly wireless charging, from a distance. Having to place your phone on a special mat is not any better than plugging it in. That's why the poster said that the current implementation is nothing but a gimmick.

All the iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro have on them is a power button. In the rare case where you need to do a hard reboot, you just hold down that button for ten seconds.

The iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch each have 5 physical controls beside the touch screen:
Home Button
Lock Button
Volume +
Volume -
Mute/Rotation Lock Switch

Seems to me that Apple could ditch the Home Button and make it so hard reboots are either done by:
Hold the Lock Button for 10 seconds
Or if that's too easy to accidentally do:
Hold the Lock Button + either of the Volume buttons for 10 seconds.
If you've ever used one of the Android devices out there that don't have a physical home button, but instead have a horribly awkward software equivalent...they make me want to throw the device out the window. No exaggeration.

I love how it's being referred to as an "iPhone 8"

Next year is the release of the 7s, not the 8.

iPhone 8 will be released in 2018, not 2017.

Mega-cycle?

Can't see anything that justifies one. Wireless charging is no big deal. Only a seismic leap in battery life would mean anything, but that doesn't look like happening anytime soon.

The smartphone revolution is over.

Well if this doesn't completely obliterate iphone 7 (or iphone 6ssssss) sales this fall I don't know what will.

Apple would be better off just not releasing an upgrade this fall at all. Take a few months off, go fishing or something.

Well, it was inevitable that Apple would change that due to unseen circumstances someday. I got on the S-upgrade cycle for two reasons: I wanted to stay with Verizon and I wanted to have 64GB of storage just like my 3rd gen iPod touch which I purchased in 2009. It wasn't until the 4S in October 2011 that those two things happened. I have a 6s and wouldn't upgrade until next year anyway. One thing I liked about getting an S model was the refinements made to the non-S model as well as the significant upgrades to the camera (usually). It looks like I'll be getting a significantly redesigned iPhone next year. Apple is slick, they'll release an iPhone next year that will be tempting enough to motivate a lot of people who will purchase the iPhone 7 to upgrade again next year for phenomenal iPhone sales in 2017.

You think Apple is the cause of people upgrading? Interesting.

I'll definitely skip iPhone 7

yep.

"Hey wanna buy a brand new iphone for 1000+ off contract or 700 on a 2 year contract that will be completely inferior to the next one being released in less than a year?'

I'm not one who needs cutting edge (still rocking iphone 5) but with OLED, etc coming(if true)?? No thanks.
