I paid $360+tax for Apple certified refurbed iPhone 6s Plus and I do enjoy it far more then my last Android phone Galaxy S7 Active.

Good for you then. I enjoying my Huawei Mate 10 more than any of my previous iPhone. iPhone to me is actually harder to use than Android, lots of more convenient features that absent from iOS.

Well, nobody is likely to read this, but I might as well put some of the Markov stuff I learned back in the olden days.

Let us assume:
a) 1000 devices are sold. Of those, Android has 83% market share and Apple has 17% market share.
b) Thus, of the 1000 devices, 830 are Android and 170 are iOS
c) The next year, 91% of Android users stay with Android, but 9% switch to iOS
d) so 91% of 830 = 755 stay with Android, but 9% of 130 = 75 switch to iOS.
e) That same year, only 86% of Apple users stay loyal to iOS.
f) so 86% of the 170 iOS users stick with Apple: 146 people. The other 24 switch to Android.
g) the result is: Android now has 755 + 24 = 779 users, iOS has 75 + 146 = 221 users

The iOS user base increases by 51 people, the Android user base decreases by 51 people.
In percentage terms: iOS is up by 221/170 = 30% increase. Android is down by 9%.

This process can be run iteratively until a balance point is achieved.

I'm genuinely curious about what the many other things are that Android users say can be done with that OS compared to iOS. I understand the screens and icons / widgets / whatever can make for a more custom feel (which is appealing)... but I can't think of anything else that's truly different. What are other non-subjective things that make Android OS more flexible?

With my Huawei phone, I can run two WhatsApp, two Facebook messengers at same time and both logged in into two different account. I also have dual SIMs installed with my Huawei Mate 10. It came with faster charger without need to buy one,it also support USB OTG and mice support.

It also runs dual applications at same times without any issues.

That only happens when people only use one platform. In reality, many people using different platforms at same time

When I read stories like this... I have to remind myself that "Android" is not a singular thing.

There are Android phones that are over $900... while there are other Android phones that are under $100. And everywhere in between.

If a person buys a $100 Android phone today... there's a pretty good chance they'll buy another $100 Android phone next time around. I don't think anyone is shocked by this.

I'd say they are more loyal to price rather than the platform... and guess which OS you will find on phones in that price-range?

Answer: Android. :p

Some people like Ford and some people like Chevy.

I enjoy simplicity of iOS.

My buddy has been using a flip phone till 2 years ago when he was promoted to a assistant manager. So he had to get a smart phone so he has access to emails. So in a way he was forced to buy a smart phone.

And become a slave to the machine! Haha :p

I like my 7 Plus, but I honestly don’t know how an X Plus would work given I rely on reach ability constantly. What’s the point of reach ability on a bigger iPhone X if you can’t actually reach it single-handedly? It doesn’t look like the gesture is accessible with one hand even on the standard iPhone X.

I think the 8 Plus might be my last iPhone if they don’t figure that out. They need a gesture you can activate from the bottom-right (in my case as I’m right-handed).

Unless you are an amputee, then you just lazy.
I would love to see you repair an engine with one hand.

The Android users that I know hate Apple, despite having never used any of their stuff. Many of them hate Apple in a strange militant sort of way. This doesn't surprise me.

Lol whaaaa?

It’s a phone, not surgery! I like to be able to use it with one hand. Is this surprising?

Using reach ability by double-tapping the home button and using the right-handed keyboard means I can get away with 90% of stuff with one hand and still enjoy the bigger screen. Buttons on the top-left are still a struggle though.

Then you would need a screen around 4”. Apple tried that route and look how well that worked.

Just stop being lazy. You have two hands, use them.
Or buy a flip phone.

We Android users are not tied to one single company that dictated everything. I jump between brand all the time. Overtime, I have had Motorola, L.G. Huawei, Xiaomi, ZTE, bunch of Nexus, Asus etc. Unlike iOS users, just tied to Apple and no other choices.

Still Android, still a sheep. You can also buy Windows PCs from many vendors, but still a Window sheep.

Even budget to mid rang Android phones provides smooth user interface and almost 95% of iPhone X functionality. I don’t need spend more than one and half grand of to get iPhone X, where 400 dollar Android phone does as much as iPhone X would do.

Bull. I just bought a budget Android phone as a spare for when my family from Asia visits (I pop in a SIM and they don't have to pay roaming fees or wonder if their phone is compatible with our carriers).

It's complete garbage. Slow and laggy all the time. Even putting in the unlock PIN you have to go slowly because it can't register your finger presses fast enough. It's literally press and wait, press and wait and so on. I finally removed the PIN altogether because it was so frustrating. Pressing any soft buttons also causes a short delay before they react. Typing simple text messages on the keyboard is terrible as it can't keep up to even a slow typist. On screen buttons are finicky. For example, trying to delete a text conversation. Press the ellipse for options, wait for the menu to pop up, then press delete. However, if you're even slightly off or the press isn't obvious (and deliberate) it won;t register. I find myself regularly closing the menu by accident because it thinks I pressed outside of the menu box. All the Apps run horribly slow. Even tapping on an App to launch causes a long delay while waiting for it to start. When I first got the phone I thought this was just temporary as it was still setting up and that it would get better. Nope, still slow. The screen is also garbage. Terrible washed out colors and it doesn't get very bright. Also has terrible viewing angles and the oleophobic coating (if it even has one) is useless. The screen always has this greasy/foggy look to it which makes the already sub-par screen even worse. Outdoors in sunlight? Unbearable.

I got this to replace an older iPhone 5 that finally crapped out. And even that iPhone ran circles around this phone, despite being 5 years old. You want me to go on?

Granted, I bought this phone for only $65 US so I wasn't expecting much from it at all. But to say a budget Android phone has 95% of the functionality of the iPhone X and provides a smooth user interface is an outright lie.

Please see edited post above. iPhone 7/8 and Plus work fine because you can shift the screen downward using a control within easy reach.

Yikes!

Like what? Software/hardware?

Bit of both. The main things with the original Pixel were the earpiece not working. The speaker not working. When answering a phone call the phone would lock up and freeze and have to be restarted. Android would run really laggy and slow every so often. You'd see it pause on the home screen when swiping up.

Factory reset would not fix the issue so we'd send them off for repair/replacement. They'd usually be replaced and then customers would come back with the same issues on the replacement. We had people who'd had 2 or 3 replacements.

Then the Pixel 2 came out and had the screen burn issue at the start. I went to another job shortly after the Pixel 2 came out so not sure about any new ones.

Horrible phones. In the 3 years I worked in phone stores the order I put phones being best to worst based on things being faulty are
1. iPhone (Now this may be skewed because people would probably take faulty iPhones to the Apple store near by),
2. LG - G3, G4, G5, G6 Only saw maybe 3-4 with issues in 3 years.
3 Samsung - A fair few issues
4. Pixel - See above
5. Sony (Z3-Z5)
6. HTC - Sooooo many faulty phones I lost count. Never buy one. (M7, M8, M9)

$99 iPhone SE which can be carrier unlocked after one month of service was very popular on Slickdeals. So, does that make Apple customers low class like the bots that spam these boards with such non-sense claim?

You don’t know Android community very well. This forum has 99.9999% more arguments over Apple vs Android then Android Forums.

This forum is like listening to bunch of 5 year olds , constantly arguing among them selfs over nothing.

Take a break.

Having been an iOS user that now uses Android, I gotta say -- it's pretty nice here. Unless I see some big changes in iOS 12, I expect my next phone to be an Android device as well. Android is really terrific, objectively speaking.

Now, my experiences are with STOCK Android -- that is, Android the way that Google intended for it to be. Many of the folks I've seen hating Android unsurprisingly have experiences with Samsung, LG, and the like. Or no experience with Android at all. But I digress. I implore for them to try the Pixel. Go take a look at the Pixel sub on Reddit and you'll find pages of pleasantly surprised iOS users.

(Before the Samsung lovers lynch me -- I think the Note 8 and S9 look amazing, guys! I kind of want one!)

Totally agree, I have to say the multitasking and apps staying ‘alive’ in the background have proved pretty useful when I’m in a place and can’t really use my iPad. Notifications and replies are great as well.

I can’t reach refresh button with one hand in Safari while holding iPhone 6s Plus with left hand.
Your point is moot.

All this proves is that Android users are cheapskates.... they go through phones like water, because they don't last or they cannot get Android upgrades..
Typical pretentious Apple fanboy response. I'm a loyal iPhone user but I appreciate the fact that android devices range from $50 to $900, just ask Samsung

Wrong.

Many Android phones that you buy from a cell carrier, come with preinstalled Android OS that was cooked up by cell carrier, even if you buy a big brand cell phone made by Samsung. And has preinstalled bloatware that you can’t remove, unless you Root the phone.
Further more, you have to wait up to 6 month, for your cell provider to push the latest Android updates.

You seriously need to educate your self.

The iPhone SE has a retail price of $349

Therefore... Cricket is subsidizing the iPhone SE in some form or another.

It's not the same as a phone that actually costs $99 in other parts of the world. Those are the phones I was referring to... and phones around that price are running Android exclusively.

The android number is truly meaningless as there are hundreds of android phones from $20 to $1000.

Ah, statistical shenanigans.

I used to be good at this too...

Shall we play?
Lies, damn, Lies, and Statistics...

One of my favorite books is "How to Lie with Statistics."

In this case, both of the following statements are true:
Android has a higher percentage of loyal users than Apple,
More Android users switch to Apple than vice versa;

allowing both companies to declare a win.

In the end, both systems are quite good and will meet the needs of 90% or more users.

Don't backpedal and just answer the question. Nobody is questioning how phones are subsidized because all phones are subsidized in some way. The question is, if you and the other bots claim that paying $100 for a phone is low class then how do you view when an Apple customer pays $100 for an iPhone? Maybe perhaps not everyone unnecessarily throw money away to compensate.

That’s like saying there’s no such thing as a stupid question.

Why yes.....yes there are stupid questions.

Drinking and driving may work for some people because they enjoy getting drunk and driving home three nights a week from the bar, that doesn’t mean it’s a smart decision because it works for them.

Drinking and driving is objectively bad. Picking an iPhone is not.

My completely unscientific opinion: they're about the same. I spend time on both iOS and Android boards and the reality is you have dienhards on either side.

My favorite is when each side claims the other has shills on their page fighting against their own choice of olatformcsnd that tgisnwoukd never happen on a competitors board because their side is the classy side.

This is all just Mac versus PC all over again and has been for nearly a decade now.
