Articles like this always inspire the zealots on both sides to come out of the woodwork. It's not surprising at all that both camps are largely (both close to 90%) happy with their decision and loyal to the product they chose. The vast majority of Windows users also have no interest in switching to a Mac and vice versa. People make their buying decisions on a wide range of criteria and what is perfect for me may not be at all useful to someone else. Further, almost all of us will not have everything in our personal ideal state regardless of whether we go with Android or iOS.

tl;dr most people are happy with their choice of mobile OS, greater percentage on Android, higher number of switchers to iOS. Both ecosystems seem to have healthy loyalty rates. Life goes on.

All this proves is that Android users are cheapskates.... they go through phones like water, because they don't last or they cannot get Android upgrades..

My release date Pixel is perfectly fine. Does everything it needs to do. Battery is holding up exceptionally well. No hiccups. I thought I'd upgrade when the new ones came out, but decided against it. Might pass up the coming hardware update if it doesn't blow my socks off. It's nice having an extra grand in my pocket every year.

Funny how phones locked up into an ecosystem (well, Apple, at least). Now it's home assistants that lock you in. Alexa to Amazon, Google to Google and ...

Exactly. I see many android phones where I work. The users are quite happy doing their routine tasks and are completely disinterested in any geek considerations. I think that cost was the initial motivation for starting out and staying with android phones. Android gets the job done and most people really don't care about coming over to ios.

Especially, if they are the least bit mature. Meaning they have no real need for the leading feature to be an animated emoji.

It is frankly pathetic reading some of the comments on here from iOS users suggesting they belong to some kind of elite club whilst paying homage at the the foot of the Apple Logo altar.

Many have never even used Android as they treat it as an OS for the lower classes which is frankly pathetic.

I use a Mac but I am damned if I am going to be forced in to using an iPhone.

I am not a cheapskate or from a lower class as I own a Mac.

I am just not blinded by the drug of the Apple Logo.

It's the same as macOS, Windows or Linux argument brings out all sorts of irrational pathetic comments. Unlike myself and use all three.

Some people just need to compensate by throwing money at something.

It's like the old saying that nobody ever got fired for buying IBM or Cisco unless you're the engineer working on the equipment then you know there are better out there or the equivalent for less money.

Unfortunately, even owning a Mac these days is becoming harder and harder. Between lack of attention, problematic updates, and general lack of enthusiasm for the platform, it almost feels like Apple would prefer that we forget they make computers.

I know you don’t understand facts VS opinion and don’t understand data, but given Apple captures over 50% of the revenue on device sales, it is silly to think flagship Android devices represent anywhere near the number of sales of flagship iOS devices.
I didn't even say that, do you even know who you are quoting?
Anyway of course Apple has more revenue they basically rip people off every product they release.

What facts have you stated?
We are comparing the prices of phones users usually buy, and wasting $1000 for the fruit phone is ridiculous. There's your fact. You can argue but deep down you know it's true.

You basically said everything, this is like an elite club and it's so hopeless trying to argue with a blind Apple fanboy, they feel "empowered" by wasting so much money on their gadgets and then criticize everyone who is smart and won't waste their entire monthly income on a phone.

And you are quite correct the Mac gets nowhere near the amount of attention as it should do. Regarding problematic updates and bugs though historically iOS has had far more issues than macOS (OS X)

Using iOS means having to explain that you can't set more than a single DND period, because Apple felt that was good enough and has zero interest in offering an API to control it.

Really, this one issue is enough that I regularly think about how my next phone may end up being an Android instead. Aesthetics be damned - the basic thing a phone is for is alerting me at the right times and not at the wrong times. And Apple thinks that everyone sleeps the exact same hours every day always.

You know you can always manually enable and disable DND...

You seem almost angry that people like Apple, why?

I never understood the adversarial relational b/with Apple fans and Apple haters. Who the hell cares? I like Apple, you don't, competition is good, let's move on.

I guess it was the other apppen1 user that has been yammering on about a high amount of Android users buying flagships:

“There's still a high amount of users who own flagship Android phones. Don't forget the cheap iPhone SE and older devices which are the most sold in the Apple world and not the newest, also not every Apple user pays in advance so...”

The truth is, you have stated poorly thought out opinion as fact over and over in this thread. You must be an Android user.

I think a good example of where is Apple is at the moment is the Mac Mini. It hasn't been updated for 3 years, has old tech, and they are still selling it at the same price as it was current tech. Just don't care. Tim Cook has changed Apple's direction and it should be obvious that Tim Cook's Apple cares more about short term profits and image than it did before as he believes his number one customer are the investor shareholders and creditors and getting that tick of approval from Wall Street.

Apple had amazing loyalty before Tim Cook abused it. Apple fan boys need to consider this:

Apple has changed: under Steve cook, Steve was pushing boundaries. All Tim Cook has pushed is "how long can I keep the same form factor, how low can I push my cost structure to maximize revenue, and can I maximize profit without innovation".

Tim Cook has been operating Apple like a traditional auto manufacture. Andriod now dominates in most continents except North America were Apple has kept customers by pushing fashion, and keeping their brand status symbol rather then tech. And of Course tech users have been leaving!!

It’s not a fact, though. You do know what a fact is, right?

This does not shock me at all. Power users are using Android, you can do so much more. IOS has not grown up and that is a pretty serious issue as many long time users start to see how much more they can do elsewhere. And I love Apple products but IOS is a massive joke these days, zero innovation.. oh wait Animated Emojis for the win! lol
I had to laugh at the “power users” comment. No such thing as a power user on a consumer smartphone.

It's amazing as an iPod OS but terrible as a modern computer replacement OS. In terms of being closer to a computer replacement...

Linux/Windows/MacOS > ChromeOS/Android > iOS
No cross platform ease though. macOS works seemlessly with iOS. Android has no real equivalent on the desktop side, and Chrome Os is definitely not desktop class.

Hm, I think iOS is the only thing with bad updates. macOS has been great for me, actually better than ever. I was only angry when Mavericks came out cause that ruined a lot of things. In the "old days," we had the Lion update...

There are sometimes problems with the hardware. Trashcan Mac Pro was a disaster. Mac mini is a joke. 2016 rMBP was annoying. But there has also been great hardware that was ahead of its time, like the retina iMac and the 2012-2015 rMBP.

And when you've used both as I have and concluded the Galaxy S8 runs the better OS it means I am capable of seeing past the hypnotical Apple logo. Being a satisfied Mac user I am no sheep.
“Better” is subjective. And Apple is all about the ecosystem. Breaking the chain results in a less overall experience. You don’t have to like the ecosystem, but it is what defines Apple. Android has no equivalent.
