It is frankly pathetic reading some of the comments on here from iOS users suggesting they belong to some kind of elite club whilst paying homage at the the foot of the Apple Logo altar.

Many have never even used Android as they treat it as an OS for the lower classes which is frankly pathetic.

I use a Mac but I am damned if I am going to be forced in to using an iPhone.

I am not a cheapskate or from a lower class as I own a Mac.

I am just not blinded by the drug of the Apple Logo.

It's the same as macOS, Windows or Linux argument brings out all sorts of irrational pathetic comments. Unlike myself and use all three.

I’m an ex Android user for over 7 years. And Android OS is Garbage, below lower class.

I used to Think Google is the greatest company in the world, now it’s just search engine to me and free 15gb of online storage.

Disagree. iOS has more loyal customers. Android has smarter customers that are agnostic to any company or OS.
Agnostic to company/OS = having time to waste switching platforms frequently for reasons other than productivity, since it's about the same on either and probably zero for most people. I wouldn't call that smart. When it comes to tools for work, it's different.

It's amazing as an iPod OS but terrible as a modern computer replacement OS. In terms of being closer to a computer replacement...

Linux/Windows/MacOS > ChromeOS/Android > iOS

It appears you don’t actually know anything about the underlying architecture of any of the OSes you mentioned.

Did you bite your tongue when you typed that out? Iphones can be had through payments(as you are well aware of), so no the choices are not as limited as you make them out to be.

I guess coming from someone who purchased their Iphone X outright, I should be calling you cheap as well....

Not in the slightest. The post you screengrabbed (a little stalky, but still) in no way is exclusive of my post here.

Pretty much this... plenty of rich people own Android phones along with their Ferrari’s etc. It’s an utter made up myth by insecure Aplle fans that only rich or elite people own iPhones, and I’m sure as your a fellow Brit you see plenty of people from ALL walks of life with an iPhone in the U.K., I do..

Out of curiosity, did you become a sheep kinda guy in the past 7 years or something? No offense, but it's pretty ignorant to judge something you haven't used in 7 years. Especially an ignorant statement to make, when software and hardware have came so far in matter of 7 years. I used an iPhone back then, and tried again (much more recent than 7 years, and i still feel like they are garbage devices for elderly or not so technically inclined people compared to Android)

Tim Cook says no headphone jack for YOU!
Tim Cook says, no 32 bit apps for YOU, poof, they are gone!
Tim Cook says, NO, you cannot continue to use IOS 10! UPGRADE or BEGONE!
Tim Cook says, NO, you cannot fix your phone. Buy a NEW ONE!
Tim Cook says, no Touch ID for you! Face ID a problem driving? Just drive OFF the road!
Time Cook says, Buy a $1000 phone and people said no.

Basically, Tim Cook, The Mobile Phone Soup Nazi! Samsung is loving Apple and Tim Cook right now.
Apple is creating all their marketing for them.

Steve Jobs is probably rolling over in his grave. :(

PS: The thing that really ticked me off is that I sent my old iPhone 5s back to Apple for repair and they sent it back in not much better condition. The iPhone 5s cannot really take advantage of the latest IOS 11 features. It only slows it down and that's the reason I sent it into Apple running IOS 10! That is just INSANE! :(

And yet the Apple fans still blindly defend their beloved company to who they give their hard earned money.

Here’s the bottom line. iPhones aren’t an option for some people due to their price. Therefore switching isn’t an option. Measuring loyality by how many users switch is a flawed methodology. It should be measured by how many can afford to switch and choose to switch. I think it’s impressive that more iPhone owners don’t switch. If you can afford an iPhone you can afford an Andriod device that has similar hardware and software. Switching is always an option for all iPhone users but it’s not always an option for all Andriod users.

Android is available at a wide variety of price points. I’d much prefer to see a study breaking down loyalty by brand and not OS. Android products even flagships are always discounted and very soon after launch. There’s always some kind of promotion going on. Apple has an expensive ecosystem. Their products are either not discounted or done so long after launch when there is a new version available. Piracy is also rampant on Android and I would say it’s one of the main reasons why people like the platform. iOS is not immune to it as far as audio and video, but it is when it comes to apps. Developers are more likely to put in more effort where they can recoup their investment quicker and have larger profits.

I’ve been loyal to Apple since the iPhone 3G, my first smartphone. I’ve tried numerous Android phones from Samsung, LG, HTC, Xiaomi and while they’re all very capable devices, I just don’t like the Android UI. It just feels cheap and tasteless. It’s like the difference between OS X and Windows. While Windows has improved in that department, Leopard and Snow Leopard were just so beautiful compared to XP/Vista and Win 7 although Win 7 was a great OS as was XP before it. However it lacked the wow factor of the Mac experience. The chime, the gorgeous stock wallpaper, the awesome dock, the menu bar. I still refused to buy Apple stuff other than iPods, iPhones and iPads, but when my last Windows notebook died, I went with a MacBook Pro and have not looked back. I am frustrated sometimes by having to figure out workarounds for things that are very easy to do on Windows but IMO it’s a small trade-off for the stability of a UNIX based OS.

I honestly would use Ubuntu or another Linux distro if all the proprietary software I need were available since the experience is quite similar. Long before I finally got a Mac, I loved Compiz and all of the UI and efffects customization available. Even a dock very similar to OS X. This was in the gnome 2 days. I haven’t used Linux in a while and wasn’t a fan of Gnome 3 when it first launched.

Using iOS means having to explain that you can't set more than a single DND period, because Apple felt that was good enough and has zero interest in offering an API to control it.

Really, this one issue is enough that I regularly think about how my next phone may end up being an Android instead. Aesthetics be damned - the basic thing a phone is for is alerting me at the right times and not at the wrong times. And Apple thinks that everyone sleeps the exact same hours every day always.
Dude. Are you under the assumption that people know what DND and API mean?! Maybe that’s why people use Apple. I certainly don’t care if my phone can play dungeons and dragons or have interest in the American Petroleum Institute.

But there are no new $100 iOS options. So is it loyalty or price variance? Most of my friends have used iPhones they bought because they can’t afford new but want to be on iOS

AAPL is trading near all time highs and they just posted a record $62B in iPhone revenue in 90 days, up from $54B the previous quarter.

Their overall too and bottom lines were up 13% y/y.

Apple now has 240M paid subscribers to various services and sells the most popular wearable in the word.

Jobs is probably wishing he were part of this domination.

True. Apple doesn't have anything that competes with the Galaxy Note if someone wants an all-in-one device instead of hauling around both an iPhone and an iPad Pro. Once Samsung add Windows DeX with Linux DeX there's also no longer a need for a home and work computer. Apple would prefer that you buy four devices instead since it's more profitable.

If that is your biggest issue, you are dang lucky.

When I was poor and unemployed, I used Android. Now that I am independently wealthy, I use an iPhone X.

I use both iPhone X and Note 8. Both indifferent ways. Always had the flagships on both sides for years. O don’t understand the bashing. Yes, there are negatives and positives on both ends but they practically all do the same thing if you’re not a power user. Most of smartphone users use them for social media, text, phone and camera. All that can be had on low end smartphones. I don’t understand why people get a $1000+ phone for just using the basics. Maybe the ecosystem but majority are non techie that don’t care about having smart homes.

and a "Switch" website dedicated to explaining all of the reasons why the iPhone is better than competing smartphones. These loyalty rates are not equivalent to switcher rates, where iOS wins out. With a larger Android customer base, more customers are switching over to iOS devices on a regular basis. During earnings calls, Apple CEO Tim Cook always touts the high number of Android switchers Apple sees, with each quarter setting a new record.
I'm now convinced that Apple has a minority stake in MR.
The continuous drivel of insignificant "news" stories getting posted here are testament to this site being a shadow of its former self. Its informative status when it was run by enthusiasts of the Apple platform and not by the YouTube-Generation of profits over facts & substance.

Some of you older members might remember what I'm talking about, the rest of you pubescent, click-bait-blinded zealots can keep on insulting each other over who's phone is shinier, what is classier or trashier or who's the smartest of them all.

I originally joined here in 2002 (but have used Apple products since 1982) and I urge all newer members of the last few years to go back and peruse the archives. The content value of stories and discourse between members was a lot more focused and respectful, despite the PC vs Mac wars back when.

Statistics can be skewed either which way and the numbers presented here are absolutely meaningless. The story is just designed to bring out the flag bearers and flame throwers.

if all Android devices were comparably priced to iOS devices, then I think this would be more relevant.
But there are so many cheap Android devices out there that people have just because they are cheap and this doesn't mean "loyalty" to me.
