Why do people prefer the cellular version over the Wifi only?
Is there a reason why you don't want to use tethering over the iPhone?
In my case I would need to have 2 contracts just to get a sim card for the iPad.

I don't have tethering on my iPhone tariff unfortunately, I would need to go pay monthly here in the UK to get this but my pay as you go suits my needs better.

I may return myne only to get the 128gb model. Even though I have around 18gb left now I do plan on having it for couple years and would rather not be limited to what I can store on it. I think its a great device. The size is perfect for me I dont find it big at all. A great companion device to my desktop pc. perfect media device.

I am leaning towards returning it but awaiting the Pencil and Keyboard. I have two months to return it so no hurry.

I'm doing the same thing, once I get the accessories I will decide. I have until February.

It's awkward to hold, need some way of propping it up. Accessories should have been available at launch.

I think the usage of the smart keyboard makes a huge difference in the way i can look at this ipad.
Without the keyboard i would have probably returned it. It's just too big to be used as a tablet proper.
With the smart keybaord however, the expereince is by far better and totally changes the experience. So i won't be returning it.
For thos who are considering to return, try and get the keyabord and try it again.
Yes it's a hige mistake the keyboard is not avaliable and launch and is very hard to get as it totally changes the way i can use the device.

I agree a keyboard (or stand) is probably "key" to the experience being right.

The problem is, I don't use a tablet for primarily keyboard use. Sometimes, sure. And that's why it is going back: iPad Pro + Pencil really needs a stand, and really I want more of the Air + Pencil experience. Oh well.

I dunno for that money to tell the truth. I'm not speaking about changing my viewpoint on handling and using the IPP as I agree with you but there are cheaper options to stand it up (smart cover or something from Amazon) and just get a stand alone Logitech BT keyboard. I already have one for the IPad 4 I had back when. I'm not even sure I would be comfortable using the Apple smart keyboard on my lap with the IPP.

I think apple is aiming for the pro to be more of a laptop than a tablet you hold in you hands, hence the need for the smart keyboard that helps it sit on your lap. The keyboard also feels like a MacBook keyboard spacing wise so it's very easy to type.
As far as usage goes, I can see where they are going here. With the larger and the new multitasking this could replace a laptop very quickly when apps are updated and the multi window feature gets better.
I was actually able to do 90% of my work day with it yesterday and I'm not using only for browsing.

Mine went back. I loved everything about it aside from the fact that using it on the couch or in the bed at night was a bit awkward. Just a little too tall if using it vertically in my opinion.

I was spectical one could use the smart keyboard on their lap when I saw it on display with the IPP at an Apple store. It doesn't have the rigidity of a Macbook obviously but I could not try it in the store to see if I felt comfortable with it.

If you are comfortable using it on your lap then I feel more optimistic.

I agree with others, the Keyboard is a BIG deal with this ipad. Without it it is simply too big to hold, but with it, it is just like a laptop with the portability and sinking of all iOS stuff. I even use the pencil 90% of the time for everything from web page scrolling, to clicking on web pages. It is nice for those smaller buttons (like forum page numbers). Without the keyboard and pencil, I think I may have returned it and waited for an iPad Air 3 (or whatever it would be called).

The magnets are strong on these. It is so strong it is almost difficult to separate the two (it requires two hands to pull them apart). When the keyboard is on, it feels like one solid unit.

If I'm not able to lock down a Pencil within the 14-day return period where I'm eligible for a cash refund, it's going back, unfortunately. Using it without its main selling point has taken the shine off quickly, as it's so large and unwieldy for someone of my size (small!) to prop up, without the benefit of the lap-friendly stand that came with the Cintiq Companion 2 I've since sold. That was a horrible behemoth of a tablet, but at least they seemed aware of it in developing its bundled accessories.

I'm really at the point of feeling that the launch date should have been pushed back if they were aware of the severe supply constraints on the Pencil--it's the number-one selling point for a huge proportion of users. Random shipments of 1-5 Pencils per location and stock that often can't even be verified by staff physically standing in the store is totally beyond the pale and unlike anything I've ever experienced before as an Apple customer. I still want to give the product a fair shake before throwing in the towel, and I'll be heading out to check my local store again this morning, but I don't think the widespread frustration is at all unjustified, especially when it was so heavily promoted in the weeks leading up to release.

Thanks, I appreciate your feedback.

We all knew the cost going in what additionally the keyboard and pencil adds. Problem is we did not know if we could get by with using it on your lap with just the onboard keyboard. I'm thinking most find that not working out.

So we are down to the cost of the pencil and alternate solutions for having it on a stand and typing with an external keyboard to save some money perhaps.

In the end whatever ones solution, is it all worth it? I think most are leaning towards it isn't. I know it not being comfortable using it on my lap with the internal keyboard is a big letdown. BTW I have the Ipad Air 2, no problem in doing so.

I think many people bought it so far knowing full well that it is easy to return.
Right. But that is inclusive of Apple marketing and part of the premium we already pay for their products. If it wasn't so easy to return some would not buy it to try at all.

I have to say this is the first Apple product I ever considered returning. The only other Apple product I did actually exchange was for a Macbook pro that was shipped to me with a nickel sized dent in it. Have never exchanged for a different color or anything like that. There is a small percentage of habitual returners and exchangers but most are not, myself included.

I'm probably returning mine. This thing is just way too big, especially for using in bed or on the can. I think I will just go and get a mini 4 and call it a day.

A lot of people have bragged on the speed of the Mini 4. I've always loved my Mini 2.

Yea I don't think Apple designed the product to be used in your lap without the keyboard. It's just too big . They are not trying to replace the iPad Air with this once . They are trying to replace a laptop with this model .

Well I returned mine today. Without being able to experience the Pencil and Keyboard, as I had intended to use the device, I have no way of deciding if this fit's into my workflow.

There really isn't any excuse for not having those accessories available in greater quantities when they're such a central part of this product.

Disappointed with Apple for wasting this pro's time.

I got the keyboard today and what a difference in use. Easily works well on my lap on the couch. Much differerent than just using an air 2. I will definitely not be returning it. I love it. Now just waiting for the pencil.

I would advise everyone who is thinking of getting one to just wait until you can get the keyboard as well. The experience is totally different with the keyboard .

I'm sure that is true. But shipping has slipped to 4-5 weeks! And no option to buy in store or when it may be in any store. That is a serious mistake IMO.

I have the opposite feeling towards the smart keyboard. It feels comfortable to type on. But it makes a lousy Smart Cover, being heavy and awkward to fold behind the iPad when holding the iPad with one arm. Since I won't need to type routinely, I would rather skip the keyboard cover, use a thin iPad case while keeping a thin BT keyboard in my briefcase for occasional use.

Finally, I am really hoping Apple will allow handwritten text input as a on-screen "keyboard" with the Pencil.

So far I have used mine in my Anker tablet stand. I use it on the table sitting in front of it. Earlier I had it on the kitchen counter streaming a video while I fixed dinner. I agree with those that have said its too large to keep on your lap or use in bed. I'm continuing to try it out for now to see if it's worth the cost. My MacBook Air 11 inch has always been my favorite Apple Product.

Are you saying just a Bluetooth keyboard? Thinking that's what I wanna do but don't even know where to begin with looking
