OP, do you need to have people agree with you to feel good about not upgrading? lol

If the current works for your needs, why upgrade....
Nah, just looking to get a gauge on others opinions. I'm perfectly fine with my choice regardless...

Don't need camera

don't need camera functions, app works pretty well as is, redesign won't swing it for me. High res screen might be tempting, but that looks like it'll be next year, so I'll be good 'til sumer 2012.

I'd be crazy to give up the unlimited data on my 3G iPad for a FaceTime camera. Maybe next year.

I use my iPad primarily for Safari and iBooks/Kindle. For games, I find it too big to hold. For any serious stuff, I use my macbook pro. Personally, unless something major is added in the 2, I'm going to keep my iPad for light web browsing and book reading, and get myself a MacBook Air for everything else. I HATE typing on the iPad, with a passion, and being a writer, that takes away about 85 percent of what I would like to do with this device. I hate when I travel that I also have to lug around my MBP so I can type. And adding a keyboard to the iPad is ridiculous. Might as well have a laptop.

Love the iPad, but see no need to upgrade. Now, if they add a retina screen, I may reconsider.

I'm not planning to buy an iPad 2 but I'm not looking forward to every new app (games mostly) being optimized for Ipad 2 and running sluggish on my first gen.

+1 I was going to wait on buying the ipad until the 2nd or 3rd generation, but I won one in a raffle. Since I'm primarily using it for books and light web browsing, I'll wait until the 3rd or 4th gen to upgrade.
I'm not sure what's up with people who want the ipad to be some powerhouse computer when that's not how Apple marketed it. It's not like Steve Jobs used the ipad to edit in photoshop during the demo.
Perhaps for some, but not true for all. One way people end up with the ability to afford stuff is they control their impulses and don't always buy the latest/greatest just because it's newer. :)

I'm trading my iPad for iPad2. As a matter of fact, I sold my iPad 16gb today for $425 (before official announcement of iPad2). I paid $540 with taxes last April. Presuming the same price for iPad2 16gb, the upgrade is only $115. I'll do the same thing when iPad3 comes along ... :)

If there's no massive change then I'll probably stick with the iPad I've got. I'm not to bothered about having a camera, everywhere the iPad goes so does the iPhone.

I'm more than happy with the battery life, I'm never away from a power source long enough to have to worry about that. A performance boost would be nice, the iPad is feeling a big sluggish, but I wouldn't buy a whole new one just for that.

Will decide when I see it.

At this stage no plan to upgrade but the missus wants an iPad so it makes sense for her to have my old one.

I am still very satisfied with iPad and may consider an iPad 2 but really only because my wife is interested in taking my current one if I buy the new one. (Although she would probably be just as happy to have me not spend another $700.00) However, I cant really imagine what they could add that would make it that much more compelling.

Camera's dont really excite me and from the various rumors, they aren't making any major changes to the screen which is all I might be interested in.

I mostly use my current iPad for eBooks and light web browsing. The current processing power is good, I still have over 14GB of my 32GB available, and it seems plenty fast during web browsing and the few games I play.

Still, though, I love new toys and am anxiously awaiting Mar. 2 to see what it actually will be.

I am also happy with my iPad and do not plan to upgrade this year. It is great for what I use it for, and I plant to keep using my current one for at least another year.

...

I hope they release an ipad 2 without the cameras because I don't need that BS. All I want is something exactly like the first gen ipad, only with GPS in the wifi model and more ram and cheaper. I would even settle for 8gb of storage if it meant it was like $349, I don't put that much on it anyway and like to keep it clean (don't have 20,000 songs to put on, have a ton of pictures but keep it to the most recent ones, if I wanted a movie or two I would just put them on then delete a day or two later anyway)

I was a bit surprised to see the amount of responses of "not" upgrading. I got mine a tad late in the game and feel it suits my needs perfectly for what i use it for. Camera? Nope - not going to hold it up and have facetime on iPhone and MBP. More memory? I have yet to have an issue? If there was flash, I may consider. Retina display? Not necessary. So yeah, not this time.

If Apple repeats what they do every couple of years, then they'll have some very cool feature in the expanded memory iPad-2 that "requires" more than the 256MB RAM in the iPad-1.

(You know, something like multiple app windows, widgets, voice control, some kind of WebOS-like card paradigm, or who knows...)

That's the kind of upgrade lure that Apple uses to get to the older model owners who are sitting on the fence.

(Of course, the jailbreak community will immediately get the feature running on the iPad-1, but most consumers won't know about it :) )

I'm sure the Ipad 2 will be awesome and for anyone who hasn't pulled the trigger yet, it will be time to buy. For me, Ipad 1 still works great and seems really speedy. I'm not interested in a camera. So spending $500+ on a slightly lighter, faster, more powerful model when the original still feels light, fast, and powerful enough for everything I do, doesn't make sense. IP3 - for sure.

I also wanted to add that come Wed, if things really blow me away, I'll gladly admit here that I was wrong and changed my mind. I don't see it happening but I've been surprised before...

Currently staying on my current iPad until A) a new iPad has a dual core processor, cam for video chat, and function more like a laptop, or B) HP WebOS tablet does what I am looking for above, but around same price point. Don't think there will be much of a bump until iPad 3 comes out so have plent of time to research both.

Upgrading to iPad2 for the sake of what is perceived as "better" is obsessive and compulsive technology behavior. Something Apple and all companies are pleased to see happen.

I'm sitting tight with my original iPad, knowing iPad 2's marginal improvements nowhere near make it worthwhile or cost effective to move to.

Already sold my iPad two-weeks ago for $100 less than I bought it for. I got a lot of use out of my iPad and I have no problem plunking down a few more bones for the upgrade.

I never have and I probably never will buy a tablet. The iphone and 11.6" MBA combination makes tablets obsolete. There's nothing this combination can't do better than any tablet except be an ereader, but I prefer paper books.

Exactly my thoughts. Except I prefer the 13" MBA.

I'm NOT happy with my iPad and that's why I'm very hesitant to upgrade. I'm not happy with iOS being to limited. If the new iPad has better hardware it still is to limited by iOS. I will check where iOS is heading and maybe upgrade later.

Features and performance. No matter how you slice it, everyone's evaluation on the current and coming iPad fall into one of these two categories. Your dissatisfaction with the iPad is perfectly valid as it relates to features. I fall into the other camp, I'm properly satisfied with the OS.

That doesn't mean that I wouldn't be attracted to whatever updates are coming - both hardware and software. But my concern is with the next OS update, the current iPad would take a performance hit. 4.2 did this to a point where it is noticeable, but still acceptable. But I think the next OS update will be too much for it to handle.

So if that turns out to be the case, I'll have to evaluate whether to not upgrade the OS, upgrade the OS and live the with log, or buy the new iPad. Keeping the old OS is sometimes a hassle when it comes to apps and figuring out if the latest versions are supported, etc, etc. In that sense, outside of the expense, it would be just easier to get the new one. That's the business plan after all, and they got me!

Contrarian

Contrary to most other postings, I am considering upgrading.
I have a 16GB wifi-3g version which is still commanding good value, so will use that money as funds for the upgrade to a non 3g version.
Reason - If it has a camera w/ Facetime, since I use it frequently on my MBP, but want more mobility in the near term. And if it has 4g on Verizon compatible with FT, will probably go that route.

Note: I have an iPhone 3gs, and will migrate to Verizon when the next gen iPhone arrives.

Bought an iPad and sold it 3 weeks later. The new one looks like crap, anyway. It's too bad they didn't keep the form factor. The new backing is ugly.
