Illegal? Definitely not. Immoral? I think you're kidding yourself if you're not willing to admit this is at least a moral grey area.

what's morally wrong? What's grey about it? I use my OWN MONEY to PURCHASE the turd device. Sell it higher than what the MSRP is. Someone stupid enough is going to want it desperately enough to pay me 2x over MSRP. They give me their cash, I give them new iPhone X. What is morally wrong? It's not theft. It's not coercion. The only thing is it's not fair to make 2x the MSRP - I'd want 3x but that's really pushing my luck...

I'm more confused why basic logic is confusing people.

He said it's not unscrupulous because 1) I'm risking my money and 2) someone who wants it gets it.
It's very easy to show that both 1 and 2 can be both true while still being unscrupulous so the argument doesn't work.

That's all that's being said here.

The logic is “confusing” them because they need to justify to themselves why it’s OK to take advantage of people when it suits them.

Moral relativism at its finest, or worst depending on one’s point of view.

No one "needs" a phone, but yes i guess people are taking advantage.
Just like apple are doing by pricing this at 1k? Apple don't "need" to price the device that high.. I'm just saying, but that's how supply and demand works, rightly or wrongly.

I put up a price for sale. Either you buy it at that high markup price or you don't. It's not like you do not know what the MSRP is. So if you agree to the price, then you pay and get your iPhone. The ones who are whinging about this are the blind ass idiots. You love your apple brand so much you see it as some kind of personal attack. Lol. It's just business 101.

There is absolutely no secrecy or conspiracy to rip off anyone. The price will be 2X msrp if you want to secure an iPhone X because you couldn't buy one that is your own problem at launch. I don't have a secret queue for me to purchase. Fair game for all scalpers.

If you someone secured a box of iPhone X's because you worked at Apple store and somehow held those to be sold to known people who are going to turn a profit, I would whinge out loud! Because that would be immoral and unfair game.

let me tell you something - I loved iPhones since the very first iPhone 3G. I went to 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, and stopped after that. Why? Because Mr. Job's departure from life and the fact they fired Scott Forstall. They then made the atrocity called iOS 7.0 and from then on marketing department dictated the UI/UX. Garbage from then on. iOS became really pathetic - and their displays weren't something to rave about either. The grass was definitely greener starting from 2013 on the android side.

I can tell you that apple is not the same company it use to be. Today it is all about profit margins down to the very dime. 5W charger on an iPhone 8 that has fast charging. No headphone jack just because of marketing courage. Thelist goes on. Dongles and more dongles. Company is a disgrace to its real loyal followers. Nowadays it's all about how much they can make.

I'm not the stupid one because I put money on AAPL stock because I know for a fact there will be hundreds of millions who will buy a turd stamped with an apple logo. I will not myself. But I will reap all the benefits of AAPL stock and retire soon wealthy with financial freedoms. Freedom to scalp the iPhone X!

Ha... I have no problem with that. I do agree with you in regards to the 5w charger... it's actually a little insulting that they don't at least move it up to a 12w charger.

But I mean at the end of the day I'm sticking with iPhones because my entire family (8 people between my parents' and immediate family) are all on iPhones not to mention the investment I've put into the Ecosystem. I'm personally getting the X because it's the closest thing to a GS8 design they've made. The UI is boring but I don't hate it. The UX is getting sloppy though. I started another thread asking why they didn't just implement the iPhone X UX (ie swipe up from bottom for home and swipe down from top right for Control Center) in all the iPhones. There is a lack of consistency now.

You can buy whatever you please! I mean no hate to anyone but I despise the blind loyal Ifans who just defends apple no matter what they do and apple can do no wrong...

It's a phone and at end of the magical 1st 14 days, the nostalgia wears off and maybe many will realize damn why is my 625nit super retina screen not bright out in sunlight? I see, that's because Samsung saved the 1000 nit and 1200 nit panels for other S8/Note 8 devices. But how come I paid so much and got 2nd class displays??

Apple's strategy has always been - give you just enough to hold you off till the NEXT YEAR. Year after year you will come back for more. Well, any iDevice up from 5S will do just fine. I mean what else you going to be doing with all that A11 beastly power? It's definitely not producing work. That paltry 5.5" display is good enough for emails, facebook, and animated poo emojis. Remember fellas you are paying $1149+tax for a 5.5" (minus the perma-turd on top) - and you can get a laptop PC or Mac for less that can do a ton more. Perspective fellas.

Any modern day cellphone can fulfill your needs of emailing, facebook, and sending poo emojis. Serious reality check in wallet yo. But at end of day it is your fortune to spend on anything you like. I do not have a say in that. In fact keep on buying apple because I'm close to retiring and my retirement AAPL fund just gets larger :)

Every company can do wrong IMO. Samsung put together some sexy hardware but woof... that TouchWiz. But yeah Apple is on it's way down for sure, not anytime soon. But like most things, you can only be on top for so long... especially in tech.

Apple is going to get wise one day to scalping and start variable pricing like sports teams do with big games to get that excess $ it use to leave on the table. Totally killed amateur ticket scalping for many hot games because there isn’t enough “juice” left to make it worthwhile. It would work like this:

To get a guaranteed phone on launch day: MSRP +35% premium.
Launch week: +10% premium
Launch month: +3% premium
Months 2-5: no premium
Months 6-8: 2% discount
Months 9-12: 10% discount

so let apple make profit but not regular people ?

LOL - this is amazing! Guys am i the only one reading this?!?!?

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Vundu - say you didn't get an iphone Ex on launch day but i happen to order two.

I would like to be a nice guy and sell you my 2nd iphone Ex but for 1 cent more.

Would you pay for my scalped iphone Ex?

Hypothetical situation. If you scalpers were in line for the X and the last one in stock was handed to you, but you knew for certain that the person right behind you in line would have used the phone themselves, what would you do?

Last point. It’s nkt scalping. It’s not the correct word.

It is buying and reselling for a profit.

When I lay out $1000 for a phone to sell I’m risking my money.

scalp
skalp/
verb
historical
gerund or present participle: scalping
  1. take the scalp of (an enemy).
    • informal
      punish severely.
"if I ever heard anybody doing that, I'd scalp them"
    • North American informal
sell (a ticket) for a popular event at a price higher than the official one.
"tickets were scalped for forty times their face value"

Scalpers are the scum of the Earth, dude. There are plenty of people who want to buy the phone and people like you get in their way every year.

Be better.

Whats your opinion on High Frequency Traders who steal billions a year from grandmas and grandpas (ie, pension funds and mutual funds, etc)?

Hmm thinking about flipping a couple myself. You can sell these at $2000 to $3000 a pop especially during the holiday season. Looking to purchase two at full price knowing I will not even think about using or keeping it.

Me personally, I would let them have it if I knew they were keeping it.

Do you think there will a 1 limit per customer when ordering the X online?

I don’t think there has been a cap on iPhones in a while. Also people use to get around it by placing multiple orders.

I believe when most people say scalpers in regards to Apple products they are referring to the people who buy 50+ and resell them. Not really the person buying two and selling one to fund the purchase.

High frequency traders steal nothing from no one...they just move a lot of assets - very quickly, and often.

who do you think is on the other side of their trades? They are whaling the pension funds and mutual funds.

If the iPhone scalping market is large enough, these guys would be in it too.

It seemed pretty clear in Apple's product launch demonstration that it was pronounced like the number

That doesn’t make it flow though.

Me: I’m getting the iPhone 10
Friend: I thought they released the 8
Me: the 8, 8plus, and 10
Friend: what about the 9?

Let us put the price this way....

You are paying retail price for the X but paying the seller extra $$$ for his time spent to get the phone for you now. This maybe waking up at midnight or standing in line.

I am all for folks who want to save and earn extra for themselves. I am bothered about these rings that come in groups/bus and go back in line after getting the allotted 2. This is why I order online. I avoid that experience. That being said, I never call them scum or wish them anything bad. Not worth the negative karma.
