I still have mine - dents and all. I have the first gen 8 gig and it has gone through many drops... no issues. I should baby it more but... I paid good money so that I can enjoy it, not so that I see it for a decent price and someone else can enjoy it. :D

Week 46 1st gen for 16 months and going strong! No issues at all despite multiple big drops!

Whilst I initially assumed I would upgrade to 3G upon release (legit release for me in Aust.), I now intend to keep using this model until it dies despite whatever uprades happen. Personally I think it looks better than the 3G, I don't use data anyway (can't afford it), and it has a character than none of my friends' identical black 3Gs have!

Same here I like the style of the first gen compared to the 3g (beat up as it is). I love that the phone does everything under wifi. No need for data.

Same iPhone 3G. After hearing all these switching stories make me rethink the quality control of Apple.

Oct 2007 8GB iPhone 2G here. It has a minor scratch on the screen but I probably won't replace it till it dies maybe 2-3 years from now. If it dies anytime this year, I would just get a free phone and buy iTouch instead. I can't afford the plan. the only reason i got it in the first plan was because of 30$ a month (family plan 10$ and 20$ data) and 3G aint worth the 40$ a month for me during these time.

I'm still quite happy with my 3G that I bought in July 08. The back might be cracked in numerous places, but I hardly treat it like its made of glass. The screen is fine, which is all I would be concerned about.

I still have my iphone 3G 8 gigs :) since 7 months

and i had iphone 2g till i sold it off for gettin 3G :p.....used it for 11 months

I'm on my original one, although I've only had it for about 6 months.

No problems whatsoever with my iPhone and I for one am very happy with mine, I even love every single one of her little scratches :D

I still have the first and only one I have bought. I only bought it four months ago but have had no problems at all. Great phone!

In our house we have a 2G iPhone bought on UK launch day works as good as the day it was bought, we also have one 3G iPhone bought on UK release day and it works fine as well.

We would have had a second 2G but I dropped it in the canal a week before the 3G was released. :( It is still down there in the mud somewhere I am sure.

I find people who have stuff that works don't ever (or very rarely) post where as people who have even the smallest thing wrong will post repeatedly in multiple threads and forums. This ends up with it looking like hardware/software has more problems that really exists as the forums all have comments.

My day job involves Mac games and most bugs that occur after release (new OS update, new machine or something we missed) usually effect only a very small percentage of users (under 1% for most bugs) but from the forum posts by effected users you would think it effects everyone! This is why keeping a good reputation and solving problems that effect only a small percentage of your user base is important as the dissatisfied users are usually more vocal and can effect how people perceive your product.

Anyway I would take it as a rule of thumb that happy people don't post and unhappy ones do. After all there are loads of support forums and i have not seen to many "Happy with device" forums. :)

Had my one and only for about 5 months now, and its still working great. It does rather worn down on the back, but I really don't baby it, poor thing :p

A big THANK YOU to all who are still happy with their original 'phones! :D

My contract expired in March and I had decided to get an iPhone when OS 3.0 is available later in the year. I'm waiting because I need MMS (to receive the regular supply of pics of Daughter's latest addition to her family!).

However, reading all the tales of gloom regarding both the iPhone and Apple's after-sales service, I've been having serious doubts. I have always considered Apple's products to be particularly well engineered and produced and therefore have had difficulty in believing the validity of some of these so-called "complaints". From the tone of a proportion, to me, it is apparent that some people either give their 'phones a hard time, will never be satisfied with anything, have a misguided sense of "fair wear and tear" or just think it's clever to complain! There again, I'm probably wrong - there are obviously a few rotten eggs in Apple's basket!

Anyhow, thanks again to those of you for rebuilding my confidence in the prospect of my future purchase!! :D

It just seems like the fashion is to get a replacement from the Apple store and that all the cool kids are doing it.

I can just see some you like "My iPhone doesn't taste right when I lick it." *hops into car and races down to Apple store*

Got mine in September. Still got it.

a) get them to MMS your email address

b) never listen here - it's full of complaints. I haven't ever taken anything back.

We still own the same original 1st gen phones (a pair of them) purchased on "iPhone day" - June 29th, 2007 @ 8:02PM PST :)

(yes - I waited in line for about an hour. Lots of fun, though!)

Yup. Original 2g model for almost two years now. I am really looking forward to a new model coming out this summer and upgrading to it.
