There is no true Stereo, so I would get another one just for single speaker bedroom or workroom use. Because with Stereo you need to be sitting at a sweet spot. For working around a room or just bedroom music or workout, the HP sound quality is quite good at spreading the sound all around you.

I would agree but surely it is clear that Apple intend for the HP to be used in tandem and blanket the room with sound which must be better than a single speaker in any given listening environment (?)

Are you finding it adjusts acoustically better off a stand rather than the top of a cabinet/piece of furniture? I'm still playing around with finding the "best" location to put it in my open space.

I have this question, too.

Yeah, since the sound quality is comparable to all current Sonos devices IMO, I think the ease of use will eventually make me swap out my current Sonos system with HomePod devices. I know that Airplay 2 will make linking with Sonos a lot easier, but this just feels more natural since I'm already balls deep in the Apple eco.

It'll be interesting to see if they do a HomePod XL in the range of the Sonos 5. Many have compared the quality etc, but I'd def be interested in a "pro" model too.

A "Pro" Model? Apple claims this is their best sounding speaker and that they have been working on this HomePod design for several years, what makes you think they will have a "Pro" version that is better anytime soon? they can improve upon this great speaker that is out now with software updates etc to further optimize the speakers and the subwoofer.

It is certainly the best speaker they produce, but that isn't to say that they couldn't make a better one. They've gone for a design based on size constraints, but they could make notable improvements if they were to design a larger model.

I doubt they will, and certainly not any time soon, because as it is the HomePod fits their intended market.

Agreed but apple needs to market this current HomePod Design well in order to sell it and not release a "Pro" Model to halt any sort of hype from this great product, This is one powerful speaker that packs quite a punch. i'm actually very surprised by its output and i happen to own a high end Definitive technology home theatre setup with an SVS Subwoofer so i know what true power is but given the size of the HomePod i'm quite surprised and impressed.

Agree entirely. This product is exactly what they intended it to be, for the market they have. It is an exceptional piece of equipment which in my case has gone from a $349 experiment/toy to a great value for money addition to my music listening experience. A pro model wouldn't work for the market Apple have in mind, and would not be likely to sell particularly well.

so where are people putting their 2nd one? next to each other for when stereo comes out? or one for living room and bedroom maybe?

I bought a second one and probably will be buying a couple more. I'm anxious for the stereo feature to come out when the release iOS 11.3. I am running the beta and it asks to make a stereo pair but can't because the software on the HP needs updated.

There is another way to get stereo from an ios device without 11.3 and homepod update.

It has been known for quite a while now that with a mac you can set up stereo homepods with airfoil. But this is not available for ios.

So I, like you, thought I'd have to wait for 11.3 and homepod update before I could get stereo to work with ios - until I discovered reflector.

If you can get airfoil and reflector working together then that will give you stereo homepods via ios - without waiting for 11.3 and homepod update.

So this is how I set it up yesterday and was able to successfully run stereo homepods from my iPhone.

First set up Airfoil

1. Download AirFoil from Rogue Amoeba’s website. AirFoil is a paid application at $29 per user.

2. Once you have AirFoil downloaded, copy it to your Application folder.

3. Open it and ensure that all of your AirPlay-enabled devices appear.

4. Choose your audio source. Easiest way is to choose System Audio. Then all sounds from the mac will play. But if you are a bit fussy about mouse clicks not coming through for example you can select specific apps instead which will exclude such noises.

5. Go to your Applications folder on macOS and find the AirFoil app. Right click on that file and choose “Duplicate.” This makes another copy of Airfoil called Airfoil copy.

6. Open Airfoil copy. It will open right over the Airfoil window. Move it away from it.

7. In AirFoil, choose the HomePod that’s on the right side of your configuration. Click the equalizer icon along the top and drag the “Balance” slider all the way to the right side. This will play only the right channel through that HomePod.

8. In AirFoil copy, choose the HomePod that’s on the left side of your configuration. Click the equalizer icon along the top and drag the “Balance” slider all the way to the left side. This will play only the left channel through that HomePod.

Then set up Reflector

You can get reflector here: http://www.airsquirrels.com/reflector/

Now you can airplay stereo music from your iphone to the homepods - via the mac and the 2 apps airfoil and reflector running simultaneously.

I tried this and it works really well.

Stereo homepods sounds much better than 1 homepod.

Thank you so very much, tywebb13. While "It has been known for quite a while now.......", there are some of us who didn't know and have already been anxiously awaiting an update for stereo capability. I purchased two so that I would have the opportunity to experiment with stereo as soon as available. The fact that you alerted those of us who were unaware is much appreciated along with the detailed instructions for doing so. I am looking forward to trying this out tomorrow to see how it sounds.
Hmmmm.........maybe I should consider buying two more, since this will require leaving the two I have in one room ????? ;)

Hate Apple for it. In the months before the release I kept convincing myself that one HomePod is more than enough and thus I bought one.

Now that I have it, I want a second one for stereo in the livingroom and a third one for the bathroom...

/sigh

Damn you Apple, you're making me broke :-(

Because they'd been working on the best phone for several years, then released a Plus? The best tablet for several years, then released the Pro? The best iMac for many years, then released the Pro? Let's not act like it's above them to claim that they've got the best, then release something a bit different/better and claim it as a new product lol. I was just thinking something like a Play:5 compared to the Play:1/3 that is generally being linked in with the HomePod right now. Or a TV/playbar type solution, since they've got Apple TV.

We're obviously talking years in the future. But it'd be interesting to know how invested they are in this market.

Now that I have one, I don't see the need for a second, perhaps once apple rolls out Airplay 2 or the ability to tie them together for stereo sound, I'll change my tune but for now. I'm content with one.

Had it a week and will be a resounding “yes” when AirPlay 2 is released.

Great product imo.

I may get another for use in my office at work, where I currently have an Echo, but I will get another for home when stereo becomes possible. A single HomePod is amazing, two of them....!

Oh my gosh! This thing sounds great! Just got home from Dallas and set up in minutes! Controlling our Hue lights already too.I will definitely add more after they officially release in Canada.

Love me some Apple goodness, but I just can't personify the high cost of these, especially considering that it's still horribly tied into only the Apple ecosystem.

This Christmas the wife got me a pair of Oontz Angle 3 Ultra's at around $35 a pop which can be used singularly or paired up to do stereo.

No Siri or anything else but for 10% of the price it makes it easier now to pay for the driveshaft of my pickup truck!

That said, please do not get me wrong; I don't bregrudge any of y'all and your purchases and I'm truelly happy you seem to be enjoying them - they're just not for me at this stage. Perhaps in a year's time - who knows...

Yea, I got my second one yesterday.....one sounds great, two is awesome.
Ready for Apple Homepod firmware stereo release so I can use them with my iCloud music library.

I was really excited about the HP, then my excitement declined after some initial review, but decided to get one for my birthday anyway. I now own three, and have swapped by Hive lightbulbs to Hue, to get the most out of HomePod/Siri/HomeKit and I love it!

I really want stereo to use with my Apple TV, have you figured this out :)
