This may be overkill but screw it, I did it anyways.

I did the $50 pre-order at Best Buy but I also did a Reservation (not a Pre-Order) at the Apple Store via the Apple Store App JUST to hedge my bets.

I figure in a worst case scenario if Best Buy doesn't come through, I'm good to go to pick one up from the Apple Store. I just got my email confirmation from the Apple Store saying my reservation is in place for the 24th and the store opens at 7am.

I wish I had an Apple store near me :( I don't feel like driving 2 hours both ways... Good ole Walmart might have to come into play on launch day

The more and more I read, BB seems like the way to go. I might have to stop by after this class is done and pre-order. I've been thinking I'm either going to just wait in line at AT&T on launch or try to snag one from Walmart or BB (I won't be home during the time FedEx comes around). My city has three 24-hour Walmarts, 2 iPhone selling AT&Ts, a BB and Radioshack... but not an Apple store within 120 miles. With a population of less than 90,000, lines are never like the ones you see in big cities (and that is why I don't mind waiting in a line). I just want my phone on the 24th!

Ahhh good ole Columbia :)
I just moved from there 2 weeks ago after graduation. I would imagine the Columbia BB would be a great place to get the iPhone. But Ike you said you have 3 walmarts to choose from lol. Good luck!

4th on the list at Otay Ranch BB in Chula Vista, CA. Ordered a white and black 32GB for my wife. She'll decide later which to cancel depending on the status on the coveted white model.

BTW, here's the rest of my preorder story for my other two lines, which occurred prior to my BB visit above:

16GB on the Apple Store iPhone app reserved (for Mom)
32GB black on AT&T site (for me). Couldn't get another order in after that.

Good luck everyone!!!

Yep, lived here all my life. Sitting in a class at Mizzou right now. So hard to pay attention while I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do! I think it shouldn't be too hard to get a phone on the 24th between all of the stores that will have some on launch.

I'm the same way when it comes to waiting for exactly what I want...i.e. I am waiting for the 2nd gen iPad.

...This is a win-win for you, because even if you get to the point that you don't want to wait, you can either get a refund of the gift card, or use it on a purchase. (Best Buy gift cards in MY house are as good as cash...and don't last long. :)

Thanks man. Same here. Even if I don't get my $50 how hard is it to get the cash for it? :D

I'm a patient guy. Now, if the white were already available and I couldn't get my hands on one... that'd be a different story. :D

Just reserved white at bestbuy. God knows when I'll get it, but still.

Ha 3 Columbia people in one thread... well not anymore for me but I went to MU.

MIZ!!

I ordered a white 32gb this morning at the local Best Buy, but I wasn't 100% sold on white or anything, so do you guys think it would be possible to just switch my order to a black 32gb?

Without a doubt, yes.

Apple kiosk in my local Best Buy put me down on a pre-order for the white iPhone this afternoon on my lunch break. They said they received word they will not be getting them in with the first batch of phones but will get them in on the next batch a week or two afterward. I put down $50 and I have a receipt confirming my pre-order for the white one. Hopefully he is correct about the wait, I do not want to wait a month longer for them.

my best buy mobile manager is saying no white until mid august, but I am hoping that one slips through near launch... I know I know don't hold my breath

Unfortunately, the wait could up to a month. Consider that as a possibility.

I just pre-ordered the 16 WHITE at Best Buy. I double checked that it was going to be the white, and they said yes, that the were allotted white models and that I would have one at launch!

When I was at BB this morn the sales guy first said, "Why do you want a girly white iPhone4?" and then he said there was no option to pre-order a white but to try again tomorrow!?!?!?

If the delay is, in fact, until August, I think I might get a little peeved. Come on, gents.

I wonder if those of us who actually got orders in will get any sort of special attention, or if we're all just up a creek?

It seems to me those who preordered a white iPhone at Best Buy is a pretty low number, so I feel pretty confident about it. Even if I don't get it... I'm still good until whenever it comes out. :D
