Down, down, down! On two devices (UK). Not the end of the world by any stretch, hehe. :p

My theory is that the authentication servers are down. Notice that the services that are not working are all those that require authentication in order to access content (and one fellow can't even launch the third-party apps on his device, as his iPhone needs to check-in to Apple's authentication servers to verify that his device is authorized to use those apps for whatever reason [OS update? device reboot?]). Browsing the store still works fine, but content stored in the cloud is inaccessible. And the only way that Apple can verify that your device is allowed to access the data you have stored in the cloud (including past purchases and iTunes Match content) is to authenticate your device and/or account.

Looking at the issues everyone is describing, they all seem to be failing at the authentication step.

Hopefully, Apple is just making a change to authentication servers to increase security and it's taking longer than expected. However, the cynic in me expects that we'll all be told to change our passwords once the authentication servers are back online, even if it's a "just to be safe" warning.

Agreed but it's sad how so many people here act like it's a first world problem. It's just a damn store that's down and most likely it will be fixed in a few hours.

What about when Sony's online services were down for 4 days straight and it was a pain because it happened on Christmas day and nobody could use their Playstation after spending money on it.

Weird--the stuff marked Down on the status page still works for me.

But I notice that after testing this stuff, my phone became warm (and battery dropped unusually) in the minutes to follow. As though the system is constantly retrying something. (Glad I'm on WiFi if so.)

Rebooting fixed that.

Evidently, the process to install an OS fix is for the OS to download it first, then ask for verification through logging in with your Apple ID, then install the fix. Well, I was prompted for my Apple ID just now, and got the SCAN_CODE_ERROR failure, which meant my Apple ID login wasn't recognized. I would believe that this also means that the install process should stop at that point. But it didn't. My system rebooted and the install was completed anyway.

Isn't this a bug?

Same thing happened to me.

That sounds right.

I tried an osx lion install from a recovery drive that worked 2 days ago. Now it gives an error right after checking with Apple for verification.

I'm currently juggling reinstalling apps on a Lumia 735, refreshing Camera Roll caches, restoring WhatsApp backups, reinstalling iOS on an iPhone 4 using iTunes... this store "issue" is the last thing on my mind, and it's a non issue anyway.

feedback assistant connection seems to be down as well. Suspect that's an authentication problem as well.

Still out. 11AM Eastern. Kudos for the bizarrely meaningless error message...

20150311-iTunes error.jpg

I did have a LOOOOOONG pause trying to watch a movie in my iTunes collection. It did eventually play. *shrug*

I wonder how much money they are losing per minute. didn't fb lose like millions when it was down for 2 minutes once

edit:

Based on 2014 iTunes Revenue: Apple is losing $34,246 per minute, $2,054,794 per hour the #iTunes store is down.

Here's a logical idea:

Instead of everyone around the world, continuously providing redundant affirmation of what we ALREADY KNOW... how about someone starts a new thread WHEN IT IS BACK UP, and people can confirm in that thread, within reason.

Save yourselves some typing...

Doh.

this is ********, I got up early to drive for Lyft and tried opening Spotify and it said needs iTunes password which I entered and they said it wrong? Um no I know my password. Park and go upstairs to try it on my computer and find out the store is down? WTF. No way I'm driving around without listening to Spotify.

Guten morgen, Herr Schiller.

I certainly hope this was intended comedy. Thanks for the laugh. :D

I got my iPhone 6 Plus replacement today. I can't restore from iCloud. My iPhone has been sitting there, useless since 1PM (GMT)

just saw this, so what's not working?

i can sign into icloud, go to iTunes, App Store etc. and downloaded a game from Store.

my son in Cleveland says he is OK too.

Upstate NY....trying to download iOS 8.2 update into iTunes.....5 hours remaining!

Same location here. No problem downloading and installing iOS 8.2, however, iTunes won't allow me to play any of my music and I can't log back into my iTunes account after logging on. Soooooo frustrating!

Apple...it Just works....

Yeah and that campaign was in regards to the Mac vs. PC and it was 100% true. I don't recall Apple ever stating their online services "Just work".

It's really not a joke. I can't open the Lyft app either. I'm losing money right now thanks to Apple.

Sorry to be blunt and honest but you should always have a backup plan if it involves your business so this is really your own fault.
