Um, define "a bit". It's been EIGHT HOURS now.
Some of us have the faculty of discerning. Not everything's "amazing".

Yet another crack in the Tim Era ....
Hasn't said Word One on Twitter.
No explanation, no apology. NOTHING.

Right. Something like that never would have happened under Steve Jobs. And if it had happened, he would have apologized immediately and eloquently with statements like "You're using the App Store wrong!"

Is anyone having a problem with Bluetooth since this all started? My car can't connect to the phone all of a sudden. Have tried turning Bluetooth on and off as well as restarting.

try playing civ v.....it does not launch w/o authentication from appstore. time to start rethinking the wisdom of buying stuff from the app store.

Same here. I had Bluetooth on during a call in my car and it just turned itself off. Had to restart my phone and that seemed to have helped...so far.

Why not send Apple an invoice detailing your financial loss to the penny as a result of the services being down... I'm sure you are truly suffering..

Your post sounds more like an "I'M ENTITLED" whine than a real financial loss.

I am 'Entitled'. I paid for the service. I don't think financial loss should only count when it's in the thousands / millions of $.

:D:p

All companies go through it. You act like this happens daily.
Google had an outage just last week.
Pretty much the same thing.
Authentication errors, nothing worked, they didn't say anything and it was hours before fixed.
It sucks, but it happens and it's unavoidable

#1, please don't tell me how I "act".
And #2, OK, so Google's irresponsible, too. Happy now?

----------

I take it you're one of those people that credits all the good things about Apple to Steve Jobs,
and blames Tim Cook for all the bad things.

I am, yes. Now stay on topic.

It was just announced by Apple the outage was caused by a DNS error and not a widespread server failure as others reported. They expect the repaired DNS servers to re-propagate over the next hour or so.

Rocketman

I am not an expert at all - but can a DNS error (had to look tup) go undetected that long and last over 7+ hrs...? And being patchy, i.e in some countries it worked earlier while some are still out?

First of all, you're the one that went off topic with your comment about "another crack in the Tim era". This kind of thing can happen to any tech company any time. So don't tell me to "stay on topic" when you yourself changed the topic.

So, would you like to explain to me how Steve Jobs never did anything wrong and Tim Cook has yet to do anything right?

I don’t want to be the materialistic weasel of the bunch, but I wonder how Apple will compensate its customers for this mess… :D

It should not have, no. Even if it somehow did, I am having a hard time believing a DNS issue is responsible for such a prolonged outage.

Still sobbing at my 'genius' idea to purchase all media from iTunes and keep in the cloud to save my rMBP SSD.....

No music today whilst studying......

It's getting a little farther along now than before -- was outright refusal to work, while now it appears to at least try before failing with a different message -- but still can't complete requests. Soon, I suspect!

Oops

I think they were having problems last evening also and it just progressed.

This morning when I continued to have issue I figured it was my device so I did a quick wipe and cloud restore. I have all of my apps pending download and wished I had looked online before assuming it was my device. The biggest thing is my works Two Factor Application can't download so I can't do work.

Do you have a link where this was announced?

I wonder how much money they are losing per minute. didn't fb lose like millions when it was down for 2 minutes once

edit:

Based on 2014 iTunes Revenue: Apple is losing $34,246 per minute, $2,054,794 per hour the #iTunes store is down.

I hardly think it matters, bearing in mind the company in question, makes money hand over fist. If their revenue was the Atlantic ocean, these losses would be a particle of steam.

DNS issues can be complicated to troubleshoot and repair due to the way DNS records propagate from server to server. Once you discover the DNS error, you can correct the servers that you are responsible for but then the correction has to propagate to the other servers all over the world.

Dang this sucks. I have a completed app that I need to submit today but unfortunately, I can't test the Game Center functionality because of this issue. Hopefully this gets fixed very soon.

Well I still want to purchase what I currently can not, and will do when I am able to, I imagine losses are not going to be total

Cloud music is such a myth of "convenience" - download once, one lot of bandwidth, never any more, job done. Stream the same song every day, that's that songs file size multiplied by how many times you stream it, which is far more bandwidth than download once, listen many. On top of all that, you're still left without music - how's your cloud gonna help you NOW?

Cloud people won't tell you that part though...
