Did not even know the buds existed.

My AirPods have been awesome so far

Did anyone see an advert on facebook a set of Air Pods that looked like the Apple version for around half the cost, think they are called Pear something? - noticed the advert a few days ago but cant find the bloody link anymore, seemed like a Go fund me product in the making, link if the product if anyone knows what i am talking about

Cheers

What an absymal failure of a product. After this mess and the 2XL fiasco the Pixel brand is already synonymous of low quality at stellar prices.

I watched the Google keynote.

I’m literally not kidding when I say I honestly thought the reveal of the Pixel Buds was some kind of trolling or joke from Google.

They are SO ugly, SO unpolished, and have such an ugly unsightly wire that I didn’t think they could be real. And the price? Wow.

Airpods are over a year older and look 5 years ahead of the Google Buds.

I agree. Also what I like behind the AirPods is the simplicity and ease of pairing with your iPhone. From the small features like double tapping to access the next song or simply removing one AirPod to pause the music and then reinserting to play the music again is ingenious. I know not everyone cares about the style of the AirPods, but that means nothing to me in terms of how simplistic the AirPods are to use.

When i got my Airpods at first I was a bit disappointed because I always assumed it would pick up automatically from whatever device you hit play from instead of having to switch the source all the time. However i learned to live with it. Maybe with Gen 2

I also feel like the Airpods are ugly on purpose to make them stand out from the mass. Like you just know its Apple when you see them, just like the notch

Hold up, are you actually being serious when you make out that AirPods are even slightly decent in terms of sound quality? They’re absolutely terrible! I bought some £10 crappy head phones that were better quality.

No company will ever match Apple's vision, attention to detail, or the cool factor, no matter how hard they try, no matter the innovations. Why? Simply because Apple, unlike others, take their time to polish and perfect their products.

A tech marvel like iPhone X, its design and its stupidly intuitive gestures are a clear example, something that competitors have never even dreamt of.
Whilst I agree with the gist of what you said. The first 5 words of your post are some of the most ridiculous I have ever seen anywhere at any time about any subject.

The problem with the Apple Pods (and evidently with the Google ones too) is the simple physlological fact that not everybody's ears are shaped the same way, there's actually quite a wide variation. So a one-size-fits-everybody solution simply isn't going to fit everybody. Me, for instance. I'm not worried about the Apple pods falling out, you can buy a cheap rubber connector that fits around the back of your neck so if one falls out you aren't going to lose or damage it. The real difficulty is that earbuds only work properly if there's a decent seal between the bud and the ear. In my case, if I'm l listening to them and take my fingers and press in fairly hard, I'm suddenly hearing an extra octave of bass I had previously been missing.

So whether a pair of buds is doing to work for you or not depends on the architecture of your particular set of ears. Before investing $150 in a product that may or may not work, in the case of the Apple buds there's an easy solution, as long as you have hung on to the set of buds that came with your iPhone (I think you get one with the iPad too, don't you?). These are of exactly the same shape as the wireless buds. So you can preview the buds for free. First, see how firmly they stay in your ears. Then do the finger test, if you press them in hard and don't hear any difference in sound, then you're home free and the buds will work for you. But if your experience is the same as mine then you'd do better to save your money and buy a pair of BeatsX, which come with a variety of tips, one of which will probably work for you. If the wireless buds came with a similar set of tips it would be a terrific product. With is present design, a certain amount of them are going to wind up languishing in unhappy customers' sock drawers.

Lot cheaper options for corded wireless earbuds...

Apple needs to release a black version of airpods. Not everyone wants to walk around with what looks like QTips sticking out of their ears.

I guess it's a brand recognition thing.
Say what you want, but you sure as hell notice someone wearing AirPods.

Personally not interested in AirPods, but the Pixel Buds look like a cheap piece of sh*t me-too-product with forced high end pricing.

If Apple decides to produce a black version I may get a pair. I can't stand the white version... whenever I see someone wearing them I think "No, thanks." ...

To each their own. I think most everythignapple puts out is beautiful. Their EarPods look embarrassingly terrible to me. They’ve been likened to qtips, and for good reason.

That’s not to say google did better here. The tether is disappointing and these things look even less suitable for sport then the AirPods (which are already pretty bad for sport too, once you get a sweat going).

I don’t think anyone has very well figured out the conoelteoynwireless earbuds yet. Perhaps Apple is the end of the bunch. But that’s not saying much to me.

The google product is pretty solid. I still hate it on an equal level to AirPods. But it’s solid. Neither feels cheap. Both feel like a terrible design for my needs. Google is slightly more terrible.

Why is it that every hardware that Google makes looks so cheap and budget?
I mean their flagship and expensive phones LOOK so ugly and cheap and now these "pixel buds" look just like super cheap bluetooth ear-buds from amazon.
Their designer are just terrible and so talent-less..I can sit here and design something that looks 10x better in just 15 minutes.

Call me when you can do that and sell at least 5 million units in two weeks. I will be checking my inbox.

Even if I wanted a pair I can't use them, they don't fit my ears.
I wish they would make a version like the Apple In-Ear cord version.

If you don't have an iPhone or another Apple device, you're not going to get the benefits of the W1 chip, so it may be worth considering the Pixel Buds instead. And, of course, there's always the neither option -- there are hundreds of other Bluetooth headphones on the market.

And there's also the wired option, which is what I prefer. I got a great deal on my smallish on-ear wired AKGs with in-line controls and can even change the volume (I'm amazed the AirPods don't do that... surely that has to be rectified in the future? I hope so, for all users of them), and they also help keep my ears warm when I'm outside at this time of year! :D I have personally always found the various Apple earphones a terrible fit for my ears, regardless of audio quality.

Also I haven't bought an iPhone or Mac without a headphone socket yet, and if and when I do it'd be despite of it, not in any way because of it - I still think it was a terrible decision to remove it from the models they have, but when they're selling their preferred 'solution' for £159/$159 it's very easily explained.

I’m really glad for people who love their Airpods, which seems to be nearly everyone who is motivated enough to buy them, I just don’t see personally the attraction of the product. But that’s ok. Good luck to those who like them.

Not being biased or anything but the Apple AirPods are amazing - I recommend to anyone who owns an iOS device / or Mac - the whole was smooth and the sound quality is as good as the wired ones. I would not recommend to wear them on the train when it is jammed packed! I purchased “a hook” that goes around the Ear to avoid situations like that.

Initially, I thought they were ridiculous and purchased several earbuds from different makers. I will be honest, they were good but not as good as the wired earbuds or they just broke down. As they say, cheap is expensive!

Are you sure? In my opinion the mess up as much as any other company.

I love my AirPods - they sound good enough and are incredibly convenient and comfortable to use (as long as they fit your ears!) with great battery life

The W1 chip really does make a difference with connecting between multiple devices and I've noticed that you get a lot of the benefits of them even when connected to non-iOS devices: I connected mine to my SE and, as expected, they also show as an option on my Mac and iPad.

What was less expected though was how well they also interact on my Android phone: Once manually paired, I can switch between devices as easily on Android as on iOS - just long press on Bluetooth to bring up the connection box and select them from the list. They will then disconnect from whatever device they are connected to and connect to the Android device exactly as they do within iOS

IMO, Apple really knocked it out of the park with the AirPods and no-one else is even close to them

Everything about google doing hardware is horrible

Purchased the Google WiFi about a year ago and could not be happier. Replaced our AirPort Extremes. Probably my favorite aspect is the App is excellent. Noticed on Amazon the Google WiFi has been the most popular router sold on Amazon. Not just mesh but overall. So Google can do some hardware well. Would say Chromecast and the Google Homes are similar.

The pixel buds translated “what do you want?” To “Che cazzo vuoi?”... this literally means “what the eff do you want?” Hahaha nice one google...

Just tried it and it said "cosa vuoi". I do not speak Italian but it does NOT say "Che cazzo vuoi". I have a lot of Apple hardware and a fan but also more and more buying Google hardware. But the insecurity of people on this site is just incredible that there is the resorting to just flat out lying about things. it is just bizarre.

The fact is some Google hardware is just a lot better than anything from Apple. Take the Google WiFi is just an incredible product. Google Home it is the same as Apple does not even have a competing product. I will probably buy a HomePod to try it out but it does not seem like it is going to try to really be a competing product to the Google Home Max. I tend to buy most "tech" things to try them out for myself and make my own assessment. There is really an issue with some on here have not only drank the Apple kool-aide but poured it all over themselves and then bathed in it.

On the Ear Buds. I carry both an iPhone and a Pixel. The fact is the AirPods can NOT do basically real-time translation. So if you travel a lot and being able to just put my phone out and have what they say translate in my ear and then I can talk and the phone speaker plays what I say has a ton of value to me. That is just not something Apple provides and doubt they will for a very long time.

The problem is the future is AI and Apple has badly dropped the ball.

So Google added intelligence to home networking and created the Google WiFi so I replaced our AirPort Extremes. Google did the next to real-time language translation so I purchased. We now have several Google Homes around our house and been moving away from Homekit. As more and more products have AI built in and Apple does not offer anything competitive we will buy more Google hardware. I am a very long time fan of Apple. Like before it was the "hip" thing to do. But that was based on Apple creating the best products you can buy. I have the luxury of price not being a major issue for me and my family. But if there are better products based on my assessment I will purchase. I want my products to be smart.

Between my AW and iPhone music is picked up automatically on Airpods, MBP is different story... Love my Airpods!
