A terrible and divisive ad, i fail to see this attracting anyone new to the iPhone.

In addition, according to this ad I fail to see what the iPhone can do for me that my current phone (modded Palm Pre) can't do. Nearly every phone has an app store, most apps are rubbish so sheer numbers do not mean very much. Palm has numerous dedicated developers making quality apps for free in many cases. iTunes? Works on my Pre. iBooks? I have a Kindle that is far less stressful on my eyes.

This isn't a slam against the iPhone, it has many merits and I would consider owning one. I think Apple needs to rethink its marketing strategy and stop the smugness.

+1

Reinforces all the worst stereotypes about Apple's truly annoying arrogance.
Not a big surprise, though.

The thing I hate is I am always labeled at work as "The Mac Guy" and when people say it they say it like they are disgusted. Its because that "Typical Apple Fanboy User" follows anyone that has an Apple device. The only non Apple tech I own is my EVO FYI.

The iBooks one is a bit of a joke since folks tend to regard the Kindle book store as superior to iBooks.
Or even B&N's Nook app and store which both also give you access to your books on other devices including your Mac and eInk based readers.

(I do prefer the UX of iBooks for ePUB books on the iPad, but that's about it).

Most people I know who have a Blackberry can't even find the alarm clock because the thing is so complicated to use.

My roommate has no idea how to set up his alarm.

I tried to help him but I only messed with it for 16 seconds and had to stop because my eyes started bleeding due to the ugliness of the interface.

haha..

I doubt it. I bet that most of their users went into a store over the last 4 years and said "I want a phone like an iPhone" to which they were sold an Android phone.

It's the only alternative and therefor why I believe their user base is as large as it is.

Bullcrap.

I have an Android phone because I want an Android phone.

"Oh, but you must be a happy T-Mobile or Sprint customer and AT&T and Verizon suck in your area" you say? BS again. I'm an AT&T customer and their service works perfectly for me, so it's not a carrier issue either. "Well, you can't afford an iPhone" you say? BS again. Not to get into my personal finances but I could easily afford an iPhone.

There is no reason I couldn't have an iPhone, I choose not to have one, and I am extremely satisfied with that decision.

Why is it so hard for iphone owners to believe that some people actually bought an Android phone because that's what they wanted. The iphone 4 isn't even the best smartphone on AT&T anymore.

actually, i don't think people buy androids because they want an android phone. they buy one because its the fallback option for smartphones. like if someone doesn't want an iphone or blackberry, what's left? windows phone and android, unless you're going for a dumbphone. yes, there are those who actively seek out a EVO or droid, but i'm going to guess that a very large percentage of android's marketshare is from lower end phones that people buy because they're there.

I get that they're trying to push the "here's what you're missing out on" angle, but I don't think anything they show can't be done on other phones, and they come off as incredibly smug. This is a surprisingly tone deaf ad campaign from Apple.

Quite simply, there are people with standards who would never put out such a pompous ad and there are people who never pull punches. They're called cretins and they abound in the marketing business.

It's the same on these forums. Some people will disagree with respect and express their differing opinion in polite and well thought-out terms. Other uncivil and mannerless posters express such ineloquent sentiments as "shut the hell up", accomplishing little more than a guarantee that their argument will fall on deaf ears.

Um, no. Kindle is everything s/he said - available on practically all platforms, has a far better selection, and prices.

Not really since Kindle is on the iDevices too. When you consider we have Kindle and iBooks, that's more than just Kindle.

You can't argue this one much... Apple and iDevices have the most choices out there for content and apps hands down.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

Most android users already wish they had an iPhone
Umm.. no.

Former iPhone user here who switched to Android.
Not looking back either. :D

My iPhone was a love-hate relationship I don't miss at all.

I... don't know what you're arguing? I'm not talking about hardware, I'm talking about the Kindle software vs. iBooks.

That's an opinion not a fact. Best would mean it can do everything better. My EVO can download faster than an iPhone, is HDMI ready out of the box, has a larger screen, faster processor...

Wouldn't that by the definition of "best" mean the EVO is the best?

Nope. There are some of us who actually want an Android phone because we want an Android phone. Can your fanboy goggles believe that?

"if you don't have an iphone, well, you don't have an iphone." <<--- suggesting that we're poor. this is 100% Republican attack on the poor class.Apple has gone with Scott Walker.

Good ads

Not sure what everyone is complaining about.

The Ads are as intended - to show off flagship advantages of iPhone. With actual user scenarios and sequences. Many are complaining not because of some perceived smugness, but the Ad is showing them how the App store is so much more polished compared some marketplace full of malware, junkware and cloneware. Or how the iTunes ecosystem is extensive, easy and fun as opposed to 'me-to-can-play-mp3' players. And for the ones open minded about the process, take them through and show them the usage process as opposed to just stopping with some lofty claims.

When Blackberry or Motorola shows off something like this, usually one sees a red flag in a microscopic font: "Screen images are simulated". Not here.
