Why does BestBuy.com show that we can preorder it now but there is no true link to preorder it when you click on it? Anti-horny fassho.

*****upgrades*****

Here's the deal.

When you upgrade

1) doesn't matter who you order through. Apple may arrive sooner tho

2) if you're eligible for an upgrade and you preorder.. The phone comes to you and you just plug it into iTunes and from there the computer will prompt you and have it activated in minutes. No need to call or go to the store

3) if you're using someone else's upgrade.... Order the phone, and when you get it.. Before you even turn it on, simply call AT&T and tell them that you used someone elses upgrade on your family plan and tell them which number you want on the phone. They will make it happen. In SOME cases you need a new sim and in that case you go to AT&T or apple.

That is how it goes.

I have two lines on a family plan. My little brother always gets my hand-me-down iPhone, and I pay for his line. Out of our two lines, his is always eligible for upgrade pricing, because he's always using the older phone.

I was told by an AT&T rep today that I can order and get the full upgrade discount by using his line's number when I order, and when the phone arrives, I can call them to activate it, but have them activate it using my line/phone number.

Does anyone have experience doing this, and does it ring true? I guess you give them your IMEI over the phone, tell them which of your lines/numbers you want associated with it, and they push the activation through and tie it to the number you've specified?

A while back (like 5 or 6 years) we did this going into the store for a phone upgrade (Verizon). The sales rep didn't explain it that specifically to us, but basically he said I could use our other line's upgrade for my own phone number.

I have everything backed up through iCloud. I'm assuming then that an iTunes sync isn't necessary, and I'll be able to do a restore from iCloud backup?

I'm sure that is probably true. I've never tried backing up to iCloud. iTunes gives the option as to where you want to backup. I back up mine on my Mac. After the site comes up and the craziness dies down you could double check Apple's help, or call customer service/Apple store. I'm sure they will walk you through the process.

Not eligible for upgrade?

I was horrified to learn that they were going to charge me 900 bucks(two Iphones) for the upgrade, so I called and after going through an unending line of people, I found that if you ask to speak to customer relations, they will give you the full discount--no hassle either after you get them. You do have to wait till the 21st to actually order it, but $250 a phone in your pocket is worth it.

Just wanted to help any other troubled souls out there.

Do you think we can make the preorder from an iPad? For some reason I feel like it might not work as smoothly.

I seem to remember that some people had better luck using the AppleStore app on iOS to buy the phone. The Apple website was a bit of a mess in the early hours last year.

The logical side of my brain says you're right and perhaps I should try the same thing. The PASSIONATE side that I'm letting take charge right now, has my credit card out and the Apple site que'd for midnight. I would just freak if I didn't get it next friday like the rest of the known world.

Sorry. That's just me. Being honest here. One hour to go.......

Do AT&T and Apple both charge the $36 upgrade fee?

For some reason, AT&T has a restocking fee if it needs to be returned but Apple doesn't.

[trying to decide which site to order from]

Yes, I believe both sites will charge you the upgrade fee. It's money in their pocket, so you can be damned sure they have the mechanism in place to collect it where ever required.

And yes, apple does not charge a re-stocking fee like other retailers. Why anyone would give anyone else their money, for the identical product, is beyond me.

Time to smoke a bowl and bust out the energy drinks! 64GB iPhone 5, here I come!

I'm gonna smoke one too! Cheers!

It's just a phone. It will be outdated in a year anyway.

Yeah, when they told me that I felt a knife stab into my heart. I don't know what I'll do if I see someone out playing on it before I get mine.

Good to know I'm not alone! I think I'll need something to keep me calm in case anything happens. I'm tempted to create a thread just for people also smoking during the preorder wait, but I don't see people liking that idea too much.

Verizon website

No one has mentioned Verizon website, can we buy it from there too? Do you think it will take longer to come in mail from Verizon?

Also, if you use ebates.com referring yourself for a new Verizon contract/account should net you 58 bucks, I'm thinking of doing it that way, but then would not be through the Apple website.

I was told that VerizonWireless.com will be accepting preorders. Going to keep the Apple Store and VZW up in separate tabs just to be safe.

Ordering a iPhone 5 32GB Black in 40 minutes, please for the love of God, let them have an option to ship to an Apple store that's all I ask. Is that too much?

TechCrunch reported that unlocked pricing for the iPhone 5 was going to be $649 (16GB), $749 (32GB), and $849 (64GB) but that the unlocked phones would not be available until several weeks after the launch.

This concerns me. I need to get not unlocked, but full price to keep my unlimited on VZW. Here I am, it's 2:21 AM and I don't even know if they'll be selling what I need
