Glad to see Steve is looking good ! I'm also glad to see that Gizmodo actually hardly stole any wind from Apples sails. The video conferencing maybe but no one had a clue about the other things. Not to mention nothing can compare to a proper presentation, in a professional, well thought out way, not to mention by the creator. The presentation could not have been more perfect. This is what I waited for since the first release. RIM has nothing on Apple now. Android was and will stay a bad joke. Might as well take the robot apart and use him as a trash can lol. Just jokin', the robots the only cool factor.
The ONLY downside at all to the presentation was the announcement of having to wait for carriers to play greedy catch up. AT&T is going to want to charge like $5 every time you want to send a video call. Hence taking away all of the enjoyment of a superb device as usual. In any event, I'm gonna try to play the carrier waiting game for another couple months. If it's not on another carrier by fall, I guess I'll be joining you guys at AT&T again . . cause this installment is serious ! :D

I have the 3g, and i read on the specs for the 4

Mac system requirements

* Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
* Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
* iTunes 9.2 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
* iTunes Store account
* Internet access

the 10.5.8 is needed, but I only have 10.4, does anyone know that version the 3GS needs to have? and if it's over 10.4, do i really need to upgrade my OS to over the requirement for it to work, or just some of the features or what?

The requirement is for the itunes version needed to use the phone. It's no actual limitation of the phone or OS itself.

That being said, this phone has everything I want except a larger screen and flash. I understand the reasoning why I don't have those two and poor battery life has left me unsatisfied with my android devices. I'll be switching back when I can.

The "no surprise here":
-iPhone OS 4 features
-The physical features of the iPhone 4
-Front facing camera and video chat
-Pricing

The surprise:
-iMovie app for the iPhone
-backlit camera sensor
-quad-band HSDPA
-802.11n
-iPhone 3GS 8GB (remember folks, lowest capacity on the 3GS was 16GB)

The ugly:
-Still AT&T
-No T-Mobile 3G support (the quad-band HSDPA only added 900 band, not 1700)
-FaceTime is wifi only
-No mention of anything Mac. It's iPad, iOS4, iPhone, and iAds. How about 10.6.4? Safari 5? Updated Mac pros?

Oh god, shut up. I love how so called mac users are quick to come to an apple discussion board to tell everyone how happy they are to be on a droid or EVO or whatever. For what purpose? Are you 12? Isn't there a droidrumors board somewhere?

I'm very pleased with the update, and happy the phone got smaller while the screen got better.

That's cause you're a fanboy. Some of us are just Mac fans and consumers. We want the best from Apple and when they deliver a turd like they did today, we're displeased.

Should've gone with a silver plastic color for the seams—as they look black from the photos.

Other than that, awesome technology. But AT&T, still? How many years are they going to be the exclusive carrier in America?

Didn't Apple say 5 years exclusive to AT&T?

LOL it's so funny we have this discussion every year. "This phone sucks. . ." "I'm going to buy. . ." "Apple you disappointed me again"

Get over it. . . If you don't like it skip it and move on. "I wanted Verizon. . ." Go play in traffic and stop being carrier obsessed.

Furthermore I like this upgrade and I'm considering it. . . My 3GS is blah now Lol

Yeah, but the quality isn't really there with 3G video. FaceTime looks much, much better.

But its really mobile and between any phone. With FaceTime its iPhone to iPhone only and only on Wifi. What do you think will happen to quality if FaceTime is allowed on 3G? Lesser quality.

For all the haters

Well I am not going to convince all the haters of anything but I will give my opinion anyways. I have bought just about every phone out there to date on various carriers. People are fickle and tent to flock to things like faster processors, more MPs on a camera, and bigger screens...

These are all marketing points that different tech companies use to push their products. Apple stays away from this and tries to sell their products based on the overall functionality and build quality. Really, have you ever played with an HTC device or Motorolla?? How did the screen hold up??? Scratches??? You ever transfer a video from your droid to your computer??? HOw was the quality after transfer??? How easy was it???

The build quality and functionality is was sets apple apart whether any of you haters can admit it or not. My iphone has no screen protector and no scratches....while my droid is completely scratched up. Droid videos look far less superior to the iphone once transferred from your phone. My iphone still takes better photos than my droid....not inside of course. Android is finally starting to run smoothly on the incredible....but the iphone os has always ran smoothly. Actually, I felt robbed with the first droid since it ran so poorly once you had a few apps running. If a customer is forking over that much money the product should be stellar. Apple would never release something that was not ready. HOwever, Android and verizon have pushed phones that don't run well. Don't believe me, go play with the Eris. God awfull.

I will always pick a better designed product over another even if it doesn't have the same tech specs. So go get your evos and incredibles and ****. I know I will....but I will always keep an iphone as my primary phone until they decide that tech specs are more important than build quality and functionality. The iphone is superior for this reason and will remain so until something changes. An the iphone 4 is another step towards superiority.

I've been looking everywhere but have not found any info about the A4 processors speed vs the previous generation 3Gs.
Are there any?

Not until Apple announces it, iFixit finds it out or a bunch of hackers get their hands on it. We're probably looking at a bit of a wait to find out the true clock speed here.

There's a VERY good reason for no 64GB model, and the same goes for no Verizon:

The iPhone 4! Cmon, they are out of ideas now. So the next update will be like the 3g -- a few extra features.

Mark my words, in January 2011 we'll see a 64 and 128gb iPhone 4, along with cellular video conferencing, and Verizon contracts.

If they're out of ideas, all they need to do is buy an Android phone to get some really good, useful ideas.

I just picked out my new Verizon HTC Incredible today. The AT&T network just got a little faster - and voice calls a little more reliable - for everyone else. You're welcome. ;)

I wasn't expecting a VZW iphone today, but wanted to see if there was anything released that would make my 15-20% of iphone dropped calls bearable. There really wasn't. After all, I want my cell phone to, um, be a working phone.

Your one of those guys that keep coming back to this forum to check and see if anyone replied to your posts, how sad.

Very nice iPhone 4 / iOS 4 all in all, but where are the Mac refreshes? I have been waiting for ages for the next MacPro refresh or someting like a supermini (with good graphics).

iPhone 4 looks great. Can we now finally have some of that greatness in the truck division too?

So, Steve, where is my truck?

I WANT MY NEW MAC PRO, AND I WANT IT NOW!!!

I sold my 8-Core/16GB memory/GTX285 equipped Mac Pro about a month ago, and ever since its been an excruciating countdown to this moment, and all Stevie did was talk iPhone... (awesome iPhone BTW) but c'mon Steve, spill some of that "magic" here on the heavy weight corner!! you promised we would "not be disappointed" and i'm already so.

Seriously.

Every single year it's exactly the same.
