Is anyone going Android after this?

I'm surprised you guys don't care about if it's 4G capable and putting that into the equation of getting it or not. Also no word on memory yet. I'm crazy to think it will have 512mb.

Wake me up when there's a sufficient 4G network deployed and the devices can utilize it without smoking thru the battery.

Then I'll care.

dont get me started on german t-mobile. they take extra money for a phonecall just because its the iphone. you pay 5 $ for 10 minutes calling someone.
for 60 dollars you get 200 mb surfing bandwidth and every mb over that 200 costs almost 1$. download 5 Games and you have a 500 $ Bill. But you may get the complete plan for only 200$ a month. with O2 you have 10 cents for a minute of a phonecall and for 16 $ a full flatrate for internet. also you pay only what you are using...so if you never call someone you pay 0 $.
even if i buy the iphone without netlock for 1500$ i feel like i get away cheaper then getting this t-mobile devlish contract.
Apple should give the Iphone to at least 2 companies so one is not abusing its exklusivity.

People are saying this is a let down because: 1) We already knew what was coming, 2) None of the announced specs are super amazing, other than the screen, 3) there are currently phones available with the announced features PLUS more. We expect Apple to be on the breaking edge of technology; they didn't meet that expectation with the iPhone 4. They're 1-2 steps behind the game with this update...

People are calling this a letdown, for real?! *facepalm.gif*

This is the biggest update the iPhone has seen since the App Store was announced. Everything about it is better.

People will never be happy.

Yes it has no Verizon support, but who's to say that's not coming.

That's what happens when people jump around the internet reading rumor, after rumor, after rumor from "analysts" that have no idea what they're talking about.

I'm very excited about the new iPhone, looks amazing!

The requirement is for the itunes version needed to use the phone. It's no actual limitation of the phone or OS itself.

That being said, this phone has everything I want except a larger screen and flash. I understand the reasoning why I don't have those two and poor battery life has left me unsatisfied with my android devices. I'll be switching back when I can.

alright thanks for being polite.

I guess I'll only upgrade to the 3gs, 9.1 is only needed for it to work. unless there's something I don't know, so correct me if I'm wrong.

thank god that AT&T is grandfathering the unlimited data plans for the new iPhone. I use way more than 2GB a month on my phone.

When the iPhone could not load the NYT website and someone yelled "Try Verizon!" for a moment I thought Steve would say "You know what? You´re right! Let´s try Verizon." and select Verizon as the carrier, to a thunderous applause from the audience.

I´m pretty sure the earth would move from its orbit by 0.00001138º due to the millions of people jumping of joy at that announcement. :)

Too bad it didn´t happen!

Overall iPhone 4 = great!
Keynote = One of the most boring ones I´ve seen.

If you live in Mexico as your 'location' states, why do you care? wouldn't you be on telcel or something? maybe even have <gasp>options?</gasp>

But yeah, it would have been cool. As someone else posted, new features (like facetime or tethering) don't mean sh*t if the carrier won't support them.

And that is another reason jailbreaking will continue to thrive, now where is my next unlock?

Steve thanks for making up my mind on what I was going to buy. AT&T playing games with their pricing and the Iphone 4 with lack of luster Im moving to Sprint and EVO 4G much better phone for the cost and the plan and early termination.

I really was hoping for more than what Gizmodo showed us about this phone.

Also where was the news about Mac Pro, I-TV and MAC Mini arrggg

Also did Steve have to go over the IADs and the Iphone OS from three months ago Again. Borrring I would have been pist sitting there thru this as well they must not know how to run a network requiring everyone to turn off WIFI.. What why not use that fancy AT&T Service (Oh cause it sucks)..

I really like Apple products but this was a let down by AT&T and Apple.

Colour

OK - I love the iPhone 4, def gonna get one - I have the old original Edge one at the mo' got that in '07 sooooo loooong ago! Now that I've seen the press shots I'm gonna go with the black, the white just looks a little too Stormtroopery and somehow cheaper looking?

Like some others here - I am a bit disappointed that there was no mention of the Mac platform at all. Especially since we all knew about the phone weeks ago and it is a developers conference after all! Perhaps further announcements will come out during the rest of the week - hope so - I make my living using a Mac and I couldn't do it with an iPhone or iPad, so come on Apple Mac sales are up, where's the love?

That's cause you're a fanboy. Some of us are just Mac fans and consumers. We want the best from Apple and when they deliver a turd like they did today, we're displeased.

Speak for yourself. As a 20 year Apple user and a fan did not think iPhone 4 is a turd. Apple never ever delivers the "best" hardware wise. They never have they never will. They are a software company which keep a tight lid on hardware. You use a mac because you like the usability of the OS, not because it's faster than a PC as hardware, since it never is. You don't use an iPhone, even the first iPhone, because hardware wise it was the most advanced phone out there, because it wasn't. You like the iPhone OS, so you use the iPhone. Yes the sleek designs of their hardware helps marketing and sales a LOT, but the main focus with Apple is always software and usability. I don't know what kind of an Apple consumer are you if no 64GB is a "letdown" for you.

I have the 3g, and i read on the specs for the 4

Mac system requirements

* Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
* Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
* iTunes 9.2 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
* iTunes Store account
* Internet access

the 10.5.8 is needed, but I only have 10.4, does anyone know that version the 3GS needs to have? and if it's over 10.4, do i really need to upgrade my OS to over the requirement for it to work, or just some of the features or what?

Something is wrong here. If you go onto the website it tells you the 3GS needs 10.5.8 but on the store it says 10.4.11. So I am wondering if 10.5.8 on the site is actually a typo error for the iPhone 4 and it should really say 10.4.11.

Yawn...

Hey Steve, you can't afford to bring your C-game while Android looks like they're more in tune with market demands. You're bringing video conferencing as some kind of breakthrough? The Android people have to be laughing themselves stupid right now.

How about a concrete definition of what precisely is grounds for an app to be rejected? You should have more than glossed over people's concerns over the app store's seemingly capricious approval process. Android developers will develop a critical mass in the very near future and how long do you think you'll get development firms to invest in apps for your platform if they cannot guess until the app is done if it will be approved or not?

How about having iOS4 ready today or at the barest of minimums a date for release? You announced a bunch of the features several months ago and you don't have anything more concrete than "soon"? Google throws down the gauntlet with 2.2 and a "trust us, you'll love it when we finally deliver it" is the best you can do?

Instead what we have is the tired Apple refrain of "look how good our monitors are" as though that can make up for features currently being delivered (or will be by the end of the month) by your competitors. Guess what Steve? Not many people are that interested in watching a high def movie on their iPhone. Cram all the pixels you want into the iPhone, it won't make up for a lack of mobile WiFi hotspot, lack of 4G capabilities, lack of replaceable batteries, being tied to an already overtaxed 3G network (if you're lucky enough to live/work in a major metropolitan area), and most importantly the perception that now iOS is having to play catch up with Android. Android phones still look like a second-rate iPhone, but that won't last forever.

Then how about an update (any word at all) about MacOS? This is the WWDC. These are the people writing apps for all your platforms, not just the iOS devices. What about 10.7? Anything new for iLife (beside iMovie for your phone)? How about iWork? Heck, I'd have taken a real cool announcement for Aperature over a lecture on anti-aliasing.

Hugely blown business opportunity here. It might have been better to postpone the iPad launch until WWDC if this was all they had to show us.

I don't use cell phones much either, and I love my iPod touch for Wifi internet and games, but internet anywhere is something cool. I'd love a 3G and 100 minutes a month plan for $40. Hence why I'm waiting for Verizon, where I could put it on my family's plan for much cheaper.
I'd love to see a 3G iPod Touch for the occasional usage out in the field. I'd probably end up never using it though. I'm saturated often enough with wi-fi when I need it.

My yearly pay as you go minutes keep rolling over. I managed to use a record setting 70 minutes last month.

I WANT MY NEW MAC PRO, AND I WANT IT NOW!!!

I sold my 8-Core/16GB memory/GTX285 equipped Mac Pro about a month ago, and ever since its been an excruciating countdown to this moment, and all Stevie did was talk iPhone... (awesome iPhone BTW) but c'mon Steve, spill some of that "magic" here on the heavy weight corner!! you promised we would "not be disappointed" and i'm already so.

Mac Pro updates usually come towards the end of the conference, so expect something towards Friday I'd say.

My sex life is great, how's yours?

But seriously, it is only 8GB because that is cheaper and the people buying the 3GS instead of the 4 (th?) are going to be cheaper too. Can you really tell me you are one of those people (like me) who want to fill up 32GB of space and don't want the additional features of the better phone? Just be happy they still offer a 3GS for the Walmart crowd.

what i meant was the base model for 3GS is 16GB, so why are they offering an 8GB model? shouldn't they be clearing their existing 3GS stock instead of paying more money to build 8GB models? what are they gonna do with the 16GB and 32GB models?

mobile company

This keynote is yet another example of the switch from Apple as a computer company that makes mobile phones to a mobile phone company that makes computers.

It may not sound like much of a difference but it is the beginning of the end for the iMac and Mac-pro.

I don't think that Apple is spending a lot of time worrying about bringing out things like new displays.

If they're out of ideas, all they need to do is buy an Android phone to get some really good, useful ideas.

Point :D

Seriously though...short of putting the 'standard' features you expect from a phone into it (which I *think* they finally managed to get sorted with iOS4) there's little more to do now. They have screen tech to last at least 5 years, so no more 'enhanced display' or 'new backlight' updates.

They've got the newest/fastest data network tech, so no new 'faster wifi/faster connectivity'.

They've got everything that everyone has wanted since the first iPhone - no features that were left out are remaining! All they can now do is bump specs and lower prices.

(P.S I dont side with the iPhone or Droid. I've had an iPhone (orig) iPhone 3g, iPhone 3g (current) and a G1 (modded the hell out of it!) and loved them all.)

I am once again EXTREMELY underwhelmed by yet another Apple iPhone event. I REALLY REALLY wanted 64GB so of course there was not any capacity increase. Same screen size at 3.5 inches. Video chat is only over Wifi. EVERY OTHER FEATURE is what every other high end phone already has and most have had for awhile.

This is ridiculous. Apple needs to raise the bar. I'm getting tired of the iPhone.

Tony

Buh bye
