The iPhone is back in the game!

Finally, it's nice to see a decent upgrade from Apple. I'm excited about the higher resolution. My only disappointment is the battery life. If Apple clans that it's 40% better, that is still not exceptional. I wish they forgot this "thinnest smartphone ever" thing and just put a decent battery in that thing.

I kind of thought that they wouldn't risk of having more RAM in a phone than in the iPad. A larger screen area would be nice too.

Has the volume been increased?

Will the UK have the iPhone 4 soon? I don't want to wait until September.

You get it on the 24th as well.

Point :D

Seriously though...short of putting the 'standard' features you expect from a phone into it (which I *think* they finally managed to get sorted with iOS4) there's little more to do now. They have screen tech to last at least 5 years, so no more 'enhanced display' or 'new backlight' updates.

They've got the newest/fastest data network tech, so no new 'faster wifi/faster connectivity'.

They've got everything that everyone has wanted since the first iPhone - no features that were left out are remaining! All they can now do is bump specs and lower prices.

(P.S I dont side with the iPhone or Droid. I've had an iPhone (orig) iPhone 3g, iPhone 3g (current) and a G1 (modded the hell out of it!) and loved them all.)

You know what they do next? Multiple carriers.

The lack of 64GB is very disappointing but not surprising. However, it's PERPLEXING as it relates to the iPod Touch. If the Touch doesn't go to 128GB in September, NO ONE is going to upgrade that thing just for the camera they'll throw in. That also means that Apple can't get rid of the Classic, which they've been trying to do for several years. So you gotta believe that they are going to do everything in their power to give us a 128GB iPod Touch in September. So where does that leave the iPhone? I'd bet that it goes 64GB in September, even though Apple has never done a capacity upgrade only to the iPhone.

Thoughts?

Tony

Either that, or next year's iPhone will be more of an " S⃣ " type upgrade with 64GB of storage and a few other tweaks but the same casing. Meaning that we only get a truly new version of the iPhone on a bi-yearly basis.

No mention of the "new" AT&T ripoff data plans. Jobs wan'ts us to see these great data intensive iAds, and paying AT&T major $$ to use the network. iPhone 4 does look nice, but Evo and Droid Incredible have similar features. The App marketplace on Android is not as good, but time will level the playing field there. Nothing about all the people that bought the iPad 3g for its "unlimited" plan, which was taken away after 1 month. I'm seriously thinking about the Sprint Evo, and taking the early termination fee from AT&T.

Think AT&T service is bad? Just wait until you experience Sprint.

Verizon

I have had all 3 iPhones, and, while this one looks awesome, if it isn't on verizon by Christmas I will be switching to Android or WinMo7. I've had it with AT&T and the lousy network and dropped calls.

Next year's phone will be 4G, with video calling over it... the year after that 4G S⃣.

WWDC 2010 Focus

Well, they said the focus was on iPhone and iOS4 and they kept it that way.

Personally, I use my MBP for everyday tasks and do heavy lifting with other resources (exclusively non-Apple resource to be exact). However, if I worked in video or graphics, I would be pissed that about the MP situation. I don't see the point of a MacMini.....I'd rather have more power in a MBP and be mobile. The iMac for those without >$2k for a MP is a good machine IMO for doing home movies, etc. and they aren't that out-of-date compared to the MPs.

I like my HDTV the way it is with DVR and don't care about GoogleTV or ATV at all.

All of those people who have been posting on Macrumors about how they ditched their iphone and got an Android; we should gather up all of their names, and force them to post in a thread about how they feel ditching their iphone for a now inferior product. And if they don't post then they get banned.

I am just laughing at all of those android converts who now because they couldn't just wait, can't upgrade to the 4g iphone. Mostly i'm laughing at the people who felt the need to brag non-stop on this forum, like any of us care.

Something is wrong here. If you go onto the website it tells you the 3GS needs 10.5.8 but on the store it says 10.4.11. So I am wondering if 10.5.8 on the site is actually a typo error for the iPhone 4 and it should really say 10.4.11.

No. The OS 4 betas are all requiring 10.5.8 or later for syncing. 10.4 has been officially EOL'd by Apple as of the release of Snow Leopard, expect all applications/hardware to stop being compatible with it.

Arn or someone else might want to add a note about it at some point, as I've seen this come up on several forums.

I think the new iphone will sell like hotcakes considering how many of the 3g iphone owners contracts end this year. I know I'll be buying one. :D

I just picked out my new Verizon HTC Incredible today. The AT&T network just got a little faster - and voice calls a little more reliable - for everyone else. You're welcome. ;)

I wasn't expecting a VZW iphone today, but wanted to see if there was anything released that would make my 15-20% of iphone dropped calls bearable. There really wasn't. After all, I want my cell phone to, um, be a working phone.

Yep, as long as the word PHONE is in the title of the product, it should actually function as one. You can add all the idiotic cameras and iAds to it, but if its still going to drop my calls you can GTFO with your lousy product.

32 GB = Lame
1 carrier = Lame
Same amt of RAM as current model = Lame

Seriously, I am a big fan and love my tried and true 3G. But Apple needed a homerun to put themselves back on top after having their featureset leapfroged this year by Google/Android. It didn't happen.

Google devices will continue to come out at an alarming pace with the ante upped every few months and Apple will find it's slimmer iPhone with a higher pixel density display (and a dumb name) not enough to complete...
:(

Yes,but it's available In 6 different iterations, and everyone looking to buy is held back by the simple fact that in two weeks "another" version of the Android will be out, by another maker, with another feature set that makes their droid outdated. Until the feature set and OS are held to yearly updates,I'm out,and in with :apple:

lol @ ignorance. Musta been one of those unhappy Sprint customers from 5+ years ago, huh? Network AND customer service (that idiots still point to as being a negative) are outstanding! Not to mention saving a butt load of cash on top of that.

The requirement is for the itunes version needed to use the phone. It's no actual limitation of the phone or OS itself.

That being said, this phone has everything I want except a larger screen and flash. I understand the reasoning why I don't have those two and poor battery life has left me unsatisfied with my android devices. I'll be switching back when I can.

But does this mean that iTunes 9.2 needs 10.5.8 I wonder?

WTF!!

No free (good) navigation!!
No mobile me included
Data is capped so who gives a **** if you can use Netflix at home (wifi), I have a TV there! Bigger than 3.5in
Not sure if the camera is better than HTC, just over 1/2 the mp, not a good sign!
One more thing is a FF camera?? They are not the only (or even the first) with one
Lock screen and push notifications still suck
No memory upgrade?!
Same amt of RAM as current model

Most importantly they are going to stay exclusive to a network that DOES*NOT*WORK!!

My neighbor got the EVO on a WORKING 4g network and runs his wifi iPad from that connection. It’s the best of both worlds! I wish I had done that. I love Apple but HATE AT&T. If I wasn’t under contract I would at least buy the EVO and try it out for 30 days.

I'm still getting the new iPhone ASAP but not sure about whats going to happen when I am done with the contract.

Very disappointed :(

Glad they have the 802.11n Wi-Fi and curious to see what the gyro thing does.

This keynote is yet another example of the switch from Apple as a computer company that makes mobile phones to a mobile phone company that makes computers.

It may not sound like much of a difference but it is the beginning of the end for the iMac and Mac-pro.

I don't think that Apple is spending a lot of time worrying about bringing out things like new displays.

It may seem like that, but you've got to remember two things:

1) Apple commands enough media attention to hold an event whenever they damn well please. If they contacted the media outlets and said they were having an event next week, they'd fill the place up, regardless of the topic at hand. They can hold separate events to launch new mac pros, mac minis, etc. They are now announcing the iphone because it's that time of year. It is significant enough to an event in and of-itself.

2) The smartphone segment is the area in which their market share is expanding most rapidly. It makes sense for them to be aggressive to maximize the potential of that increasing pie slice. On top of that, it has a large non-hardware based revenue stream attached to it. It's also the lowest price point to obtain an apple product (save the shuffle). If you can hook in new users on a low risk device (as little as $100 in the consumers' eyes), you can get them to try your more expensive products. Apple still puts a lot of effort into having notebooks and all-in-ones with cutting edge designs and features (that they deem important). Their attention to the desktop environment is not waning.

I purchased my iPhone 3GS last year in August and got moved up to being eligible now.

I think one of the main reasons that a lot of people were calling the iPhone 4 a "disappointment" is because of the Gizmodo leak. If you didn't know ANYTHING about the upcoming iPhone 4, then I believe this release would be 1,000,000x better than it was.

Either way, I'm still excited for the product. I'm going to get my warranty to give me a new refurbished 3GS because of a housing crack, then sell it, then have enough $$ and some for the 4. :D

Well, nothing here that makes me regret my decision to go with the Droid Incredible, especially since there's still no Verizon iPhone yet.

In other news, was there a single word about Macs? OS X 10.7? Nothing?

or LOL at people who can't grasp that carriers can have fantastic performance in one city and ****** call-dropping performance in another city...

Speak for yourself. As a 20 year Apple user and a fan did not think iPhone 4 is a turd. Apple never ever delivers the "best" hardware wise. They never have they never will. They are a software company which keep a tight lid on hardware. You use a mac because you like the usability of the OS, not because it's faster than a PC as hardware, since it never is. You don't use an iPhone, even the first iPhone, because hardware wise it was the most advanced phone out there, because it wasn't. You like the iPhone OS, so you use the iPhone. Yes the sleek designs of their hardware helps marketing and sales a LOT, but the main focus with Apple is always software and usability. I don't know what kind of an Apple consumer are you if no 64GB is a "letdown" for you.

Iphone OS isnt in the same league as Android. Hell, it's barely up there with the current Windows Mobile.

Maybe, but as I and others have already said, it was a letdown because there is nothing revolutionary about this new iPhone. Others phones already have these features and more. That and they're sticking with such a crappy network partner.

Let's be honest: While I'm not stupid fùckwit and I find the iPhone 4 and iOS4 updates very poor, there is still not match on the market.

Really Android beats iOSs ass in terms of functions, compatibility and openness but STILL there is no close match to the iPhone touch screen and User experience.

What the hell are the waiting, Iphone has become a cheap gadget with poor innovation for teenagers, it's so easy to do better, what are RIM or HTC waiting for ?

I got my 3GS in Aug 2009...I would upgrade this year if the price is right for a 32GB model...love my 16GB but I'm kinda needing more storage for my music.

One question..is this FaceTime going to be free?

I mean, there is been VideoCrapCalling over 3G since 2003, but it cost almost 1euro/minuto, is this FaceTime going to be a "Computer Video Calling" rather than a "Mobile I suck all your money Calling"?
