Still yet to meet someone with an android device...and yes a lot of my friends are tech geeks...

-J.-

I've met one, he brought it over to show me, it wouldn't turn on. The day he got it no less he had to promptly return it and got an iphone.. ROFL! Loves it (it just freaking WORKS!)

Freaking true. :D

Hey right now when i see if i am alb to upgrade it is giving me the 399/499 price. i bought the iPhone 3GS on the first day will i be able to upgrade for the 199/299 price?

From what Jobs said, anyone who is available for an upgrade during 2010 can upgrade at the $199 or $299.....unless I misunderstood him.

Used video via Fring on an evo this weekend via 3G and it was great. WTF are you talking about?

I was talking about the standard 3G video calls that many 3G networks support - not video conferencing apps running over 3G.

Another poster referred to it as "VideoCrapCalling" :)

How about having iOS4 ready today or at the barest of minimums a date for release? You announced a bunch of the features several months ago and you don't have anything more concrete than "soon"? Google throws down the gauntlet with 2.2 and a "trust us, you'll love it when we finally deliver it" is the best you can do?

It was clearly stated as June 21st

Iphone OS isnt in the same league as Android. Hell, it's barely up there with the current Windows Mobile.

Mac OS is not in the same league as Windows and Linux on many areas as well, yet we use and love it for what it is.

Overhype will always underwhelm

There is no way this Keynote could have addressed every bit of hype that was listed. A lot of those had no bearing on a Developer's conference anyway. If 10.7 (or whatever) isn't ready to be demoed to the developer community, then what is the other big development platform - the newly rebranded iOS 4. They just announced the iPad, so it make sense that they would focus on the iPhone, especially as there are new APIs to be discussed.

Apple long ago started to move away from the Expo and WWDC for product announcements, the iPad being the most recent example. This is not new, and yet unreasonable expectations precede each keynote. When most aren't addressed, or at least to the equally unreasonable satisfaction of some, we are flooded with such insightful comments as "lame" or "fail" from those who felt entitled to get every hyped item.

While I wonder about the future of the MacPro, Mac Mini, and the "hobby," why would you announce it here? Unless apps are coming to AppleTV, or a feature was added to hardware that Apple had to address with a new API, there's no logic to announce it here. It is very possible that the rumors of some of the items are true but just had the bad timing of coming to light right now.

It's also possible they were just....well.... rumors, hence the site name.

Better screen resolution, which amounts to being useless on a screen that small.

um, sure it's "useless" ... you would know that. because you only need the somewhat LESS resolution of the EVO. THAT is the right amount. and no more.

(that is a really stupid argument, by the way)

and yes, vastly superior (ie. real) HD video recording. which you can't do. so i guess it's not EVERYTHING, right?

Not sure if this was your intent or not, Steve, but all you managed to do today was reassure me that my choice of EVO over iPhone 4 was a great one. Wow, wifi only chat? Phone to phone only? iAd? Guitar Hero?! Smaller screen? This is what you have?! Hahahahaha. And still stuck on the horrendous ATT network with their moronic new pricing mechanisms and data restrictions? Good riddance, iPhone. Surpassed so easily and so fast.

Wow, you've taken the release of a phone so personally.

Ahhh That's Better

have no need for facetime, flash, taking hd video or watching video on a phone.

which is why you need a smart phone?

"i have no need of movies, data, internet, music, or chat of any kind on my phone!"

um... right. so use a flip-phone, goofball.

I'm an EE, and although I'm not involved with antenna design, I can tell you that, by deduction, the reception will be at least as good as the 3GS/3G. Otherwise, they wouldn't have bothered to include it in the design in the first place. As for an actual quantitative evaluation, that's near impossible. We'll just have to wait for some field tests. It's an interesting idea because you don't usually have exposed metal on a consumer device that is of a quality to be considered useful for actual signal conduction. The boards are normally grounded to the chassis of such a device, which leads to it not normally being exposed. That's obviously not the case here, and they'd have to accommodate the fact that this is a phone and may come into contact with any number of potential static or active electrical sources.

Well, nothing here that makes me regret my decision to go with the Droid Incredible, especially since there's still no Verizon iPhone yet.

In other news, was there a single word about Macs? OS X 10.7? Nothing?
Agreed. Same here.

the only let down here... the weird omissions

no 480p/480i export from iMovie.
no 720p output from the Universal Dock
no iPod touch equivalent ( which is looking pretty long in the tooth now )
no Safari 5
No generic file storage

The first 3 are tragic if you ask me.

According to MacBreak Weekly,on TWIT Apple has the Moscony Center rented again for the 27th of June, maybe then:eek:

I warn thee, I am sworn to do my duty! (ahh, another Moby Dick fan)

That is my thought exactly! I have a MacBook Pro, iPhone 3GS and the iPad 3G but I can't buy the most recent iPhone at the discount because they released it less than 18 months since the last new phone.

It is disappointing to be an avid Apple fan but have to pay more for a phone than a newbie to the bandwagon?!?

C

Apple already has your money, and if you really want the newest hardware, you'll shell out more. Anyways, I doubt that you're going to jump ship while waiting to be upgrade eligible. And speaking of this eligiblity, I would guess that the wait has more to do with AT&T than Apple. And of course there are going to be discounts for newbies, all parties involved have more of an interest in winning new customers than getting old customers to buy new hardware.

People are saying this is a let down because: 1) We already knew what was coming, 2) None of the announced specs are super amazing, other than the screen, 3) there are currently phones available with the announced features PLUS more. We expect Apple to be on the breaking edge of technology; they didn't meet that expectation with the iPhone 4. They're 1-2 steps behind the game with this update...

As always with Apple, it's not about having more features than the competition. It's about bringing it all together in perfect harmony: the design, innovative materials, intuitive GUI and perfect integration with the rest of its products. I think the Iphone 4 is a superb upgrade and I can't wait to use one. What else did people want or expect?

Having said that, I think I'd prefer the HTC legend in terms of design...

No mention of the "new" AT&T ripoff data plans. Jobs wan'ts us to see these great data intensive iAds, and paying AT&T major $$ to use the network. iPhone 4 does look nice, but Evo and Droid Incredible have similar features. The App marketplace on Android is not as good, but time will level the playing field there. Nothing about all the people that bought the iPad 3g for its "unlimited" plan, which was taken away after 1 month. I'm seriously thinking about the Sprint Evo, and taking the early termination fee from AT&T.

Android market has infinitely better apps that would never be allowed on the iPhone (unless you jailbreak it). And on the Android marketplace, if you buy an app, you have 24 hours to use it and decide for yourself if its worth the money or not. Refunds if you dont like it. What did Apple give us today? Another way for them to take more money from developers of ads via iAds. Greedy ******s.

Man, I was kind of hoping for more.

The way I see it, the only thing revolutionary is the screen.
The HD video recording, video conferencing, multitasking... it's all being done already on other phones.

I was expecting a bit more from Apple.
This is the first time I felt a product released by them was playing catch-up rather than revolutionizing an industry...

What's wrong with Apple implementing features done on other phones? If they left out features they would be accused of being arrogant and creating the iPhone the way Apple thinks the customer wants it.

Its not what it does

its how it does it.

That was what was so appealing about the original iPhone. It seems to me that there is enough new stuff here (for an iphone) in the various camera functions that people will feel that again.

Yeah, its not new technology, but this is the first time so many people will be able to use it.

(Of course, anyone in this forum reading this is such a nerd that we could do video calling and film editing years ago, so we are never going to get it).

I'm wondering whether or not those of us outside the u.s.a, in countries with multiple carriers supporting the Iphone, will be able to use 3g video conferencing?
