I really hope that the camera shutter can be controlled with one of those newly-separated volume buttons. I didnt see anything in the live updates, so I'm hoping that it just didn't get covered and it's already built in.

I really think that this is ESSENTIAL to the camera function. the only thing I really hate when using my iPhone is fumbling for the stupid on screen button. it makes taking a spontaneous picture really tedious. using the physical volume button would be fantastic. could somebody find out if maybe they included this and didn't highlight it. I wonder if other people feel the same way???

The iPhone takes pictures when you RELEASE the button, not when you press it. Press and hold. Compose your shot. Release.

Still not as good as a hardware button, but I think people don't realize this.

MicroSIM + AT$T + only 32 GB = no new iPhone for me.

Seriously, this MicroSIM is some stupid *****. I swap the SIM from my iPhone into some crappy old phone when doing dirty work, and buy prepaid simcards to use in the phone when traveling overseas to avoid getting r@ped by AT$T.

I'm confident that there will be a SIM adapter for microSIM cards. Heck, you could cut out the shape and finagle it in yourself if you wanted to, I'd bet. The 32 GB is simply because NAND capacity hasn't increased to the point where they can offer more.

Mac OS is not in the same league as Windows and Linux on many areas as well, yet we use and love it for what it is.

Because the hardware works. With the iPhone, you get an INFERIOR OS as you stated and you get a piece of s*** phone. Great, Steve, you added cameras. Whooptee doo if the phone itself is still dropping every other damn call. Ohh good iMovie, just what I wanted in my PHONE. How about a turn-by-turn Navigation system. You know, useful things that people driving around with a phone would use. More and more it looks like the iPhone is intended for two markets (1) blind fanboys and (2) 12 year olds.

I didn't buy an iPad because I wanted to save up for the new iPhone. Looks like I did the right thing. Upgrading from 16gb 3G to 32GB iPhone 4. $299 is a great price.

No Docking Stand?

I am an original iPhone user and while I passed on the 3's, this is more in line for what I was waiting for. FWIW, I would love to rid myself from AT&T too but at least can carryover unlimited data plans currently in place.

Big question is ... where's the docking stand? I like plugging my phone into a cradle for charging and alarm clock, etc.

um, sure it's "useless" ... you would know that. because you only need the somewhat LESS resolution of the EVO. THAT is the right amount. and no more.

(that is a really stupid argument, by the way)

and yes, vastly superior (ie. real) HD video recording. which you can't do. so i guess it's not EVERYTHING, right?

Yes, because I'm going to dump my real HD video camera for some stupid phone that has HD recording that only functions properly if you shoot extremely close to the subject and never move around. YAY! SIGN ME UP! And what's the storage like for those videos you shoot on the phone. 16gig? 32gig? Wow, really? Thanks. Where EVO kicks the living **** out of the iPhone is in the PHONE department.

What are you talking about? The hardware on Mac is the same hardware as Windows and Linux machines, just lower specced. So the hardware works on Windows and Linux just as good. The ONLY reason people use Mac OS is because they like it. Not because it's the most advanced OS on all the areas. Just the areas the users care about. Don't expect the iPhone OS to be the most advanced OS on all areas either. The usability and UI are why people buy it.

Speak for yourself. As a 20 year Apple user and a fan did not think iPhone 4 is a turd. Apple never ever delivers the "best" hardware wise. They never have they never will. They are a software company which keep a tight lid on hardware. You use a mac because you like the usability of the OS, not because it's faster than a PC as hardware, since it never is.

You just don't know what you are talking about.

Even today you simply CANNOT find a tower design in the PC world better than the one in the the Mac Pro, not even close. New Intel Processors are commonly reserved for Mac refreshed hardware. Memory capacity, network capabilities, environmentally friendly and power saving designs... Unibody on the laptops and glass & multi-gesture pads, accelerometer (and now a gyro) on the phones... you PC guys still trapped in the 90's whith your horrid towers and dysfunctional mix of bad hardware and AWFULL software... of course, massification of "crappiness" on the PC world gives you guys some little advantages... but at the rate Mac is expanding, you PC guys will just fulfill your obvious and natural destiny: embrace the greatness of the :apple:.

Not sure what the point is about 802.11N support. Seriuosly...a)who has N?! and b)the iPhone itself still is pretty slow on G compared to any computer on the same G network. Not to mention that G is theoretically ALREADY much faster than 99% of people's home 10-16Mbit downstream internet connection. I guess this was just a checkmark in some employee's box that iPhone needed N.

-Eric

I have it.. at home and cant use my 2g iphone on it. It can find it but it wont connect.

I may be in the minority but its kinda a big deal to me. Especually now that I can only use 2g of data

Who has N?!?! Are you seriously asking who has N?! Anyone who's bought an Airport Extreme in the last few years. Anyone who's bought a router at all in the last two+ years, who's not stupid.

Don't forget that N provides speed internal to your network, not just external. There's also the part about thinking past today. And N is about more than speed. It's about distance.

Ok, I'm officially in love with the new iPhone.

Are there any French people following this thread? I was wondering if it will still be possible to buy it from Orange with a mobicarte and then have it unlocked after paying 100 Euro.

I know that this way, a 32GB iPhone 4 might cost over 700 Euro, but after 7 months on BlackBerry, my patience by now to switch back is practically non-existent.

Well, nothing here that makes me regret my decision to go with the Droid Incredible, especially since there's still no Verizon iPhone yet.

In other news, was there a single word about Macs? OS X 10.7? Nothing?

So then there's really no point in posting, being as though everyone here is talking about the iphone. Seems you do this in almost every thread. People like the iphone, a lot of people and that's what todays meeting was about. This is an article on that iphone, i guess it doesn't make too much sense that people here would be excited about a new iphone. Instead we should all talk about a new operating system that they constantly update. Wow.

I have read all the latest news on this topic and they all say Iphone 4 upgrades will not be grandfathered.

um... show me one thing that says that. i thought this was all settled... existing accounts can upgrade into same account.

go ahead, show me the thing that says your comment. was it this?

"The good news for current customers who love their unlimited plan is this: they are not required to switch, even when it's time to upgrade to a new phone. So you are welcome to keep your unlimited plan :)"

yup, that sounds like you are right. derp.

-iAds...... you know you're going to still pay the full price for the application and now you'll also get ads in it too.

right. because that's the way it works NOW, with all the CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ad networks.

adding another network will not completely change the ecosystem. it's just one more option.

you know, people already understand the "free app + advertising" concept.... maybe you could ask them to explain it.

Everyone craps on AT&T but over here in south Florida I have full bars everywhere I go and its fast as hell. So I'm happy with it. :D

i'd buy this simply to get away from the plastic back of my 3gs, but the fact of the matter is there's more thought put in to the frame of the iphone 4 than most other phones put in to their entire device. the influx of new apple fans seem to be underwhelmed unless there are "gee whiz" features galore; personally i've always been a fan of design/engineering over brute force and ignorance.

the technical specs and features of android phones sometimes look more impressive on paper, but the actual phones leave me considerably underwhelmed.

No surprise. There will not be an iPhone on verizon while it's CDMA.
Stop waiting. It's not happening.
Now, when they finally move to lte things can be looked at again
but verizon with it's current tech is not getting the iPhone. Period.

Another Verizon user

Still no Verizon, still no sale.

Curious that AT&T is allowing current users to buy the new iPhone before their contract expires without penalty. My suspicion is that exclusivity is finally ending. This new iPhone is now compatible with T-mobile's 3G in the US.

As far as Verizon, the iPhone will most likely come in when LTE is implemented, which Verizon should have some major markets by the end of the year.

well what did you expect? see you in 2012

And I'll be seeing YOU, out in the parking lot. :p

I can't believe anyone is disappointed in this (iPhone 4). It's the highest spec'd phone on the market, with the best design Apple has ever produced. I hate the curvy girlish look of the previous models.

How is this possibly a let-down? :apple:

Seriously you guys, I know a lot of you are REALLY excited about this phone, but you should do some research on other available phone before you re-up with AT&T.

I was an avid iPhone user, got the original one day 1, upgraded to 3G via a Craigslist purchase (a few months after release) and had the 3GS.
I got really frustrated watching other phones advancing while there were no major advances in the iPhone OS.

I got a Nexus one near release date and at this point can't imagine ever going back to iPhone OS, or iOS... Android is so much more "free" (meaning restrictions, not monetarily), is much more open to devlopers and is constantly advancing.

I'm not at all bashing the iPhone, I still think it's a great phone, but try to remove yourself from the hype a bit and just take a look at other options that are available.. you'll see there really isn't too much revolutionary about this phone.

That screen is bad-ass though! ;)

it's a smart phone, you really want it to drive you car for you? if you want that kind of nav, buy a garmin

Yes there is a dock! I think it's the same one as the iPad.
(It does not come with with phone though)
