I always love people who moan about upgrades. These people bought the 3GS phone with a two year contract and $300 subsidy last year. Then then start crying that if they want to upgrade they have to pay full price on the new one.

Sure when the 3GS came out last year I wished I could get it without laying out extra $$ but such is life. I signed the contract and the world kept turning.

AT&T is allowing me to upgrade which I actually consider nice of them considering my contract runs till December.

<cough!>
I must remember to throw in some insults and ranting so my posts actually get noticed. ;)

Haha. Fair enough.

The sides are some special steel alloy, not aluminum. It serves as multiple antennae (supposedly) and the seams separate each antenna from the other. (I'm not an EE but I don't totally buy that explanation.)

The iphone 4 is in itself awesome and something I really would like to get.

On the other end it means I still have to stay with ATT and just that pisses me so much that I am only thinking about getting a new v 4 iphone if it is jailbroken or unlocked like the ones in Australia. I will pay $1000...don t care about the money I care about the service and not having calls dropped when I am on a conference call with clients.

I want a phone that I can use on any carrier anywhere in the world and unlimited data. I don t care if it costs me $200 a month, it is the service quality I want...so basically this will never happen with ATT ridiculously crappy service/network.

I want to buy an iphone and put in whatever carrier sim I want. No matter how much bells and whistles you give me if your service sucks donkey ballz it is not worth it.

I'll need to find the idiot who said that me calling it iPhone 4 stupid because HEY, guess who's right?

I get to gloat about this.

By the way I am still using the OS version that enables me to tether the phone on my 3GS. No freaking chance in hell I am going to change my plan and have to pay more for tethering...I have been using tethering for a year and damn glad I never upgraded the phone OS so that ATT could cripple the functionality.

Fark you, I paid for unlimited data on that phone when I bought it and that includes all types of data including tethering. The more and more voip gets popular the less we will have to rely on crappy networks like ATT's.

Flat fee unlimited network access anywhere from wifi, laptop, 3G, 4G, WIMAX etc. Phone companies I hope will die a slow death once voip becomes way more popular.

The Apple iphone deal has always felt like bying a plasma tv and only be able to use it on Comcast's network...it sucks

iphone 4 upgrade eligibility

So it looks like customers can upgrade to the new iphone 6 months early. Is this only for existing iPhone customers? I currently have a blackberry and would like to upgrade to the new iphone...any ideas?

I'd start by checking my account page or calling AT&T...

Just curious, once you go out and spend $1000 on an unlocked iPhone from down under, what cell network were you planning on using it on if not ATT?
Unless you are a big T-Mobile fan an unlocked iPhone is still not going to give you many options in the US.

The iPhone ought to be at 128GB of memory by now

Am I the only one who thinks that Apple is getting pretty stingy about increasing memory for any of its portable devices?

4th generation, and still only 32GB!?!

I know that Apple thrives by buying cheap and selling dear, but memory can't be so expensive that Apple can't at least double it for the 4G phone.

I'm determined to own a maximum of ONE portable device and ONE desktop computer. No, Apple will not tempt me to buy a third device just because I can't hold enough of my stuff on one gadget. I don't have THAT much disposable income--not after shelling out for a Mac Pro.

I'm not just some whiny, jaded consumer--I own stock in this company!

While most phones have only one microphone, iPhone 4 has two. The main mic, located on the bottom next to the speakers, is for phone and FaceTime calls, voice commands, and memos. The second mic, built into the top near the headphone jack, is for making your phone and video calls better. It works with the main mic to suppress unwanted and distracting background sounds, such as music and loud conversations. This dual-mic noise suppression helps make every conversation a quiet one.

Should the last sentence NOT/SHOULD be "This dual-mic noise suppression helps make every conversation a clear one. ?!

Issues with all previous iPhone's was that the conversation to the other party you where talking to was that your voice was too quiet, or soft. I want them to hear me just as I would want to hear them - but clear!

Also I think its time Steve jobs & team work with existing codecs or new one's implementing AAC for audio quality during device, speakerphone and headset use. Those headsets should've been SCRAPPED for new ones by now.

Great update but I don't think video calling will get much more than a 3mth boost on AT&T or other world providers.

So AT&T being the good hearted company they are...:p...is offering "an early upgrade special for current iPhone users in the U.S., allowing the lower upgrade pricing up to 6 months earlier than the company normally does."

Does anyone but me think that this is just AT&T's way of securing current subscribers and locking them into a two year deal because just maybe, perhaps, possibly, the iPhone will be coming to Verizon, Sprint, and/or T-Mobile sometime from Sept-Dec of this year??

hey dude, go read the specs.

20fps at 720p.

so that's not really 720p, now is it?

i mean, i'd think you'd know SOMETHING about the phone you love so much...
lol, wrong again. It does 24.7 and up to 30 fps. Is the iPhone 4 going to do it slightly better? Probably. Does the Evo 4G have 720p recording capabilities (per the HD standards)? Yes.

Funny hearing Jobs talk about open standards such as HTML5, then lock in with AT&T exclusivity for god knows how long.... Maybe if you focused on a CDMA iPhone instead of having spent all that time working on the Jumbo tamPad....

How quick we forget life before the iPhone. Carriers held ALL the cards. You couldn't get a phone from anyone but the carriers. Apple signed an exclusivity deal because they got UNHEARD of control. Verizon turned Apple down. Everyone is complaining at Apple for this, but it was the best they can do. Exclusivity will end eventually. Get over it.

Then they go on to talk about FARMVILLE for 5 minutes....

Farmville is a big deal. Farmville makes money, pretty important image to show at a developers conference. Farmville is also a Flash game. Making a native port connecting to the same data is huge as it is another nail in the Flash coffin. As I have said time and time again, content providers will make their content work on 100 million devices. Farmville native app is going to be a catalyst to web based Flash games making native apps.

From Engadget:

The screen is truly outrageous -- you basically cannot see pixels on it. We're not being hyperbolic when we say it's easily the best looking mobile phone screen we've ever laid eyes on.

I seem to remember skyehill claiming that the screen didn't matter since the human eye couldn't detect the difference.

Woops. Now off to your EVO boards you go!

:)

Italy right now is soooo sad

here in Italy we will blow up the Colosseum if we don't get this piece of art before the French do

1) NAND density has not increased to allow more storage in the same amount of space as is currently used.

2) Name the other smartphones with even half of the iPhone's built in storage in NAND (not SDHC, big difference).

What did I hope for and missed:

1) 10.6.4
2) Mac Pro update
3) Mac Mini update
4) iPod updates
5) Something useful from Apple TV
6) Timetable for 10.7
7) Slate/tablet pointing device that is more than an Apple branded Wacom

Underwhelmed - yes I guess I was.

Wilson
Well, it's expected that anything related to iPods and entertainment (Apple TV) is announced around September, so I don't expect any mention of iPods here (other than the surprising free update for iPod Touch). However, I did also expect something about 10.6.4 and Macs, but alas, it seems the Mac is not in the spotlight anymore. :(

But Apples constant repeats that "it changes everything again" and that it's a revolution all over again kinda pissed me off... we get it, it's a phone, you've updated it.........

Noobs. I swear. Do you even understand how Apple does something, especially the iPhone, and the tech world stops to see. Then most run off and try and out do Apple. It's comical. But that's what we see time and again. I've even seen reps say they want to wait and see what Apple does first. How many tech companies do you know with that kind of prowess?

Nothing like a little iPenis envy huh?

Seriously, the Android pansies are out in full force today. Engadget was a trainwreck before I gave up reading a few hours ago.

As if anyone thinks these trolls are doing anything but reassuring themselves of their decision to buy an EVO 4G. No one cares losers!

Look, the EVO 4G is a good phone, and the new iPhone managed to meet or exceed the quality of the EVO 4G in almost every respect. Yet somehow it's underwhelming? Suddenly video chat and HD recording are stupid because Apple didn't do it first? Who gives two ***** about who did what first.
