You just don't know what you are talking about.

Even today you simply CANNOT find a tower design in the PC world better than the one in the the Mac Pro, not even close. New Intel Processors are commonly reserved for Mac refreshed hardware. Memory capacity, network capabilities, environmentally friendly and power saving designs... Unibody on the laptops and glass & multi-gesture pads, accelerometer (and now a gyro) on the phones... you PC guys still trapped in the 90's whith your horrid towers and dysfunctional mix of bad hardware and AWFULL software... of course, massification of "crappiness" on the PC world gives you guys some little advantages... but at the rate Mac is expanding, you PC guys will just fulfill your obvious and natural destiny: embrace the greatness of the :apple:.

Sure you can. Dell workstations use the same hardware as Mac Pro's do. New intel processors being reserved for Mac Pro doesn't make up for Apple's long update cycles. Yes Apple gets them 1.5 months ahead of other PC vendors, but those other vendors will upgrade their machines in 8 months when intel comes up with slightly faster chips while we wait for 18 months for Mac Pro updates. About network capabilities, all the workstations use the same standards.

And I'm not a PC guy. I have been a mac user for 20 years and never ever used a PC. I own a 8 core Mac Pro 3.2, unibody 17" MBP and other Apple gizmos. But I realize that hardware wise macs are NEVER EVER as fast as their PC cousins. I use macs because I like the OS better than windows. And that's not to say it's more advanced than Windows, just better usability and stability.

So yes, I know what I'm talking about. You just proved to be a troll though.

<cough!>

Are we certain that the sides are aluminium? If it is stainless steel it could explain the seams, as it would be very difficult to manufacture a u-section like that in a single piece. Also, one of those pieces could be functioning as an antenna.

Stainless steel and glass

No surprise. There will not be an iPhone on verizon while it's CDMA.
Stop waiting. It's not happening.
Now, when they finally move to lte things can be looked at again
but verizon with it's current tech is not getting the iPhone. Period.

Why is it that everyone thinks CDMA is so terrible? I have you ever compared the service on the networks? Verizon's network is much more robust than AT&T, and it has always been my experience that Verizon's coverage is better (also it actually is better statistically).

Oh wait, but I can't talk and browse the web at the same time? I still am trying to figure out how this is possibly a deal breaker for people.

If Verizon doesn't get the iPhone before LTE, it's not because CDMA is old technology that sucks (old, but reliable), it's because Apple doesn't want to end exclusivity and/or develop another version of the phone.

EDIT: and I realize the text I quoted in no way says the tech behind CDMA is bad. This isn't so much a response to that post as I agree with it.

And I'll be seeing YOU, out in the parking lot. :p

I can't believe anyone is disappointed in this (iPhone 4). It's the highest spec'd phone on the market, with the best design Apple has ever produced. I hate the curvy girlish look of the previous models.

How is this possibly a let-down? :apple:

Unfortunately, people always have a problem with something. This is what die hard Apple fans that were on line for the first phone because they were ahead of the game, have been waiting for. The phone is great. It can't get any better. I for one will scoop one up. :D

Still wished for the larger screen. While it looks awesome, the HD2 isn't that shabby and a 4.3in screen is much easier to see.

AND WHERE'S THE 64GB version? AUGH.

What a great little device. With iBooks, Stanza and Kindle app I can see this being an insanely good book reader for some people's uses. iPad seems a little unwieldy to me a lot of the time.

720p video is pretty unexpected and great news.. I usually only take a handful of photos or vids between syncs so i have no huge capacity issues - it'll be nice to have much higher res to work with.. I can pretty much retire my compact with one of these.

Really happy with the screen and design. Not really surprised by the lack of Mac stuff. This has bigger implications for developers, a whole new set of things to implement.

I've been trying to get some feedback on the antenna design, but the bickering is drowning out everything.

I know for sure that the device itself has been lacking in the reception area, so a lot of the "AT&T sux" crowd MIGHT be helped with an improved antenna on the iPhone. I had a Motorola flip phone before I bought the original iPhone, and on the iPhone I consistently had no service where I consistently had 2 or 3 bars on that Motorola phone. I am hoping that this new antenna design helps that.

Yes, because I'm going to dump my real HD video camera for some stupid phone that has HD recording that only functions properly if you shoot extremely close to the subject and never move around.

LOL. yer just making things up. so that is pretty silly.

"MINE has HD! oh, it doesn't? HD on phones is STUPID!"

or you can just make made-up comments about something you have no experience with.

i think i know which one you'll choose...

Seriously you guys, I know a lot of you are REALLY excited about this phone, but you should do some research on other available phone before you re-up with AT&T.

I was an avid iPhone user, got the original one day 1, upgraded to 3G via a Craigslist purchase (a few months after release) and had the 3GS.
I got really frustrated watching other phones advancing while there were no major advances in the iPhone OS.

I got a Nexus one near release date and at this point can't imagine ever going back to iPhone OS, or iOS... Android is so much more "free", is much more open to devlopers and is constantly advancing.

I'm not at all bashing the iPhone, I still think it's a great phone, but try to remove yourself from the hype a bit and just take a look at other options that are available.. you'll see there really isn't too much revolutionary about this phone.

That screen is bad-ass though! ;)

Good thoughts. If this isn't your cup of tea, then go somewhere else. Free market everyone. As for AT&T comments, that all good and what not, but remember this. It's all about where you live. AT&T is fine for me and don't drop calls at all and Sprint service is good if there is service. I remember driving though the middle of nowhere Michigan one time and when I needed my Sprint phone for directions, ppof it wasn't there for miles around. AT&T and Verizon would have kept me going!

The new iPhone 4 looks great to me and I'll be pre-ordering next Tuesday. Screen Res Bump, Sturdier, Thinner, Long battery Life, iOS4. Good enough for me.

Today hasn't been a good day for Mac OS X. I would say that it was a great day for the iPhone OS, but it got just renamed...

In his defense, he didn't say CDMA is bad, he just said an iPhone won't come out utilizing it. That's a fair assumption as AT&T could simply be waiting for LTE to launch in the US to support multiple carriers.

The CDMA standard has been updated to allow simultaneous voice and data. The carriers just have to allow their networks to use it.

So here's a developer who's application is making more money than everyone else in the room combined (excluding Steve). I'm guessing most (or all) of the developers in the audience would like to know how he did it, even if it means you'll get kicked out of the cool kids club.

As an aside, I don't really know what Farmville is, apparently it's some kind of casual/social game originally on Facebook.

I know its really popular and makes a lot of green, but a game with roots in f***book making the Keynote at WWDC makes my stomach turn. I know Steve wants (and may feel obligated) to highlight these games, I personally, do not agree.

I want to see, OS X/ iOS features, iPhone hardware demos, Mac hardware upgrades (when applicable) and the like..... not games my 6 year old nephew plays.

I have an opinion just like everyone else.

Yes there is a dock! I think it's the same one as the iPad.
(It does not come with with phone though)

Missed that picture ... Thanks - will need 3 - Work, Home, Travel

Ohh good iMovie, just what I wanted in my PHONE. How about a turn-by-turn Navigation system. You know, useful things that people driving around with a phone would use. .

i'd take imovie WAY WAY WAY over turn by turn directions.

i know where i'm going, generally. i've never once felt the need for TBT.

but making movies right there... neat. for me, much more useful.

i guess all the people who call for TBT either have no idea where they are going, or are driving around in strange places a lot.

but even just looking at the map gives me a pretty good idea of where i'm going. seriously.

Curious that AT&T is allowing current users to buy the new iPhone before their contract expires without penalty. My suspicion is that exclusivity is finally ending. This new iPhone is now compatible with T-mobile's 3G in the US.

As far as Verizon, the iPhone will most likely come in when LTE is implemented, which Verizon should have some major markets by the end of the year.

Can you verify what you said about the T-Mobile network?

For some reason i was hoping for an gsm unlocked version like the nexus one, come on apple, i don't want to be tied to a contract and i'm too of a wussy to jail-broken one.

the iPhone 4 is awesome! not to excited about the name though. And is At&t's service really that bad?

I live in Washington, DC, and my service is fine. I never drop calls. The downloads are slow, but it's my first smartphone so I can't compare it to any other experience I have had. The AT&T website is AWFUL, pure stinking awful. But I only use it once a month so I've gotten over that.

Customer relations for AT&T is much better than Verizon's, IMO. Verizon would always call me up and try to sell me new phones or new plans, or two phones for the same plan. I.e. a bunch of garbage I didn't need or want.

Verizon reps would also lie about things just to get you off the phone. One rep would claim to reset the whatsidoozit on your your account, I'd hang up and the damn thing still wouldn't work, call back, wait 20 minutes for another rep, and that rep says that my whatsidoozit hasn't been reset in over a year. "But the last guy said that's exactly what he did!" "Well, he must have been mistaken."

I had to write the Better Business Bureau to get Verizon to fix one of their more egregious mistakes on my account.

Everything about the iphone is perfect. It is now also perfect for business. I think the only thing lacking is a bona fide office program. But checking / sending pdf's natively is a big boon! On another note, sexting is unortunately about to take a whoooole new direction.

Great phone, in my opinion. Some really nice features.

Technical question, though. What's the significance of naming '5.8Mbps HSUPA' as the upload speed whereas the 3GS has no specs related to this (besides the 7.2)? Any thoughts whether the a4 or and bumps in processing will boost the 3g past 3gs benchmark times? Or is the 4 basically going to be a fast on 3g as the 3gs? Thoughts? Thanks
