Man I was really hoping for a slightly larger display. With ads taking up a portion of the screen, it's going to make what can be worked with on screen more difficult to use.

Also, I always doubted that this was going to be the exact final design, and looks like I was wrong. Jury is still out on if I will buy this. :)

So then there's really no point in posting, being as though everyone here is talking about the iphone. Seems you do this in almost every thread. People like the iphone, a lot of people and that's what todays meeting was about. This is an article on that iphone, i guess it doesn't make too much sense that people here would be excited about a new iphone. Instead we should all talk about a new operating system that they constantly update. Wow.

Wow indeed; it looks like someone should read his own sig.

In the midst of all this "excitement," I think it's perfectly reasonable to comment that the feeling is not 100% shared.

And as far as Mac OS goes, I'd be perfectly happy to post in the thread that discusses today's Mac announcements, except for the fact that gee, for some reason there isn't one.

The phone is great. It can't get any better.

Hmm...

Everything about the iphone is perfect. It is now also perfect for business. I think the only thing lacking is a bona fide office program.

So, it's perfect except where it's not?

All of those people who have been posting on Macrumors about how they ditched their iphone and got an Android; we should gather up all of their names, and force them to post in a thread about how they feel ditching their iphone for a now inferior product. And if they don't post then they get banned.

I am just laughing at all of those android converts who now because they couldn't just wait, can't upgrade to the 4g iphone. Mostly i'm laughing at the people who felt the need to brag non-stop on this forum, like any of us care.
Looked in a mirror lately?

The iPhone takes pictures when you RELEASE the button, not when you press it. Press and hold. Compose your shot. Release.

Still not as good as a hardware button, but I think people don't realize this.

yeah, that definitely helped when i figured it out. still leaps and bounds away from being as good as a button. I'm not somebody that pushes more physical buttons for the iphone, but this one use really frustrates me. No matter how you cut it, you have to hold the phone in a much more awkward way than if you could use the volume button

I emailed Steve when I first found out about Gorilla Glass. He said they have been using it since the beginning.

Wow, first time I've heard of this. I'm naturally skeptical, having never seen this reported before.

My big worry about the iPhone 4 is the glass screen is now laminated directly to the display (per the promo video). So if you drop your iPhone and crack your glass, no more $30 replacements from eBay. :(

And I've seen enough cracked iPhone screens to worry.

Of course now the worry will be twofold, as there is glass on both front and back. Oh, and no bevel to protect the glass edge now.

they did it right

They've improved many of the things I've found lacking in my current iPhone, and added enough new features to make it worth sticking with Apple and not going over to the Android. But having to sign a 2 year contract with AT&T sucks royally.

Still it'll be interesting to see the new apps that will take advantage of all the new features. Me, I'm mostly liking the improved camera + flashbulb and being able to use the augmented reality apps now.

One question: what happens to my old iPhone? Will it be able to be used as an ipod Touch like they did with the older ones or is it basically a worthless old phone?

Seriously, the Android pansies are out in full force today. Engadget was a trainwreck before I gave up reading a few hours ago.

As if anyone thinks these trolls are doing anything but reassuring themselves of their decision to buy an EVO 4G. No one cares losers!

The fact of the matter is 90% of the trolls on Engadget that claim they are running out to buy an EVO 4G are doing no such thing.

We've seen exactly the same thing after every iPhone model is introduced and every iPhone competitor is introduced. The Engadget horde screams that they are rushing right out to buy iPhone Competitor X. Of course, iPhone Competitor X turns out to be a mediocre seller and is quickly supplanted by iPhone Competitor Y, which they also claim to be rushing right out to buy. Remember the Palm Pre? The G1? The Hero? Yep, snatched up by the tens of millions by the rabid anti-Apple trolls on Engadget. Not.

The commentary (from the readers) on that site is a joke and deserves your complete disregard.

dang, no 64GB. Anyways, I'll go and grab a 32GB iPhone 4 to hold me over until 64GB next year.

I guess I'll find a way to allocate the 96GBs between my iPad and iPhone until next year where we'll get better capacities!

ah at last an iphone worth having even if it still dose not do video over 3g of course no one i know will be able to use video because most are on iphone 3 or gs time will tell but at least they put the front camera in now

Not sure why there are negative ratings besides for no CDMA version for Verizon, DoCoMo, etc. Someone even wrote they knew everything already...can't have it both ways, bud. This is a big step over the previous model, especially given the contract restraints with AT&T. People were loving the leaked info and now not as much now that it's officially announced? Tards.

Why should I read my own sig? I'm not angry or being mean. So attacking use of my signature makes no sense. Actually you sounded angry. I'm stating the facts. Everyone here is speaking on how they enjoy the iphone experience, so what's the point in downplaying it by saying "Well, nothing here that makes me regret my decision to go with the Droid Incredible, especially since there's still no Verizon iPhone yet." If that's how you feel, why post? There's no need to. It's a Mac forum, so Mac stuff is talked about. How can you expect different? Yours, is the only negative comment I have read on the entire thread. Granted, there are things I wish it had in the past i.e. but didn't and I talked about them. Usually people who knew a little more about tech than me, corrected me or showed me why it may have been left out. But to say what you said is basically saying the iphone isn't up to par. That's a little more than just having opposing views. I love Macs and what they do. There's no reason for me to go to a Windows site and talk about how I think their tablets aren't as responsive, aren't as stylish etc..

awesome

I am really impressed with the new features, but as I've said elsewhere I'm really, really impressed with the Retina Display. I so hope this becomes part of Apple's computers.

The more I look at the description for RD alone the more excited I get about whats in the future. My peepers and pockets can't wait to thank Steve and the crew for this innovation if it goes past the consumer devices. Make it so Mr. Jobs!

Conferencing? Chuckle

There's a VERY good reason for no 64GB model, and the same goes for no Verizon:

The iPhone 4! Cmon, they are out of ideas now. So the next update will be like the 3g -- a few extra features.

Mark my words, in January 2011 we'll see a 64 and 128gb iPhone 4, along with cellular video conferencing, and Verizon contracts.

Unless one of the carriers comes up with an earthshaking breakthru, video conferencing is a "yea right" and pixelated.

Even then, how do you make it real-time?
Landline and FO I can see, not cellular - yet...

this isn't gorilla glass on the 4, it's even harder. watch the video. Just as dell are all "oh hai we got gorilla glass", that's 3 years ago on iPhone. This is new.

No Give Up

Would love to have this phone, but not worth giving up my current unlimited data plan in order to get it. Will stick with my 3gs until they offer other carriers.

Asked ATT rep manager and I have the memo:
If you currently have an unlimted plan, upgradding, even to the new iPhone or Streak, you do not have to change your plan, just extend it. You get to keep the unlimited data..

Yeah!!!

Well, what don't we know? We don't know the processor speed. Did Apple underclock the iPad A4, like they underclocked the processor on the 3GS? We don't know how strong the front facing camera is - .5 or 2 mp? We don't know how much RAM - 256k or 512k? We don't know what kind of flash is included - just basic LED or the Philips Luxeon LED? And, of course, we heard nothing about the propects of MobileMe being available for free in the future. Kind of a typical half information presentation.

Well,what don't we care about?
All of the above(except the Mobile Me thing)

Oh god, shut up. I love how so called mac users are quick to come to an apple discussion board to tell everyone how happy they are to be on a droid or EVO or whatever. For what purpose? Are you 12? Isn't there a droidrumors board somewhere?

I'm very pleased with the update, and happy the phone got smaller while the screen got better.

Stop insulting 12 year olds!
