42" 8k iMac!

Height-adjustable iMacs confirmed? 😳
Yes! Apple's knowledge-based-height-adjustment works by the placement of books under the stand!

Seriously. Given the Finder icon, I hope they at last start giving some love to the much neglected finder. I miss how "Find" worked in System Seven. These days you can spell something exactly right, and the search will still miss it entirely, or bury it under a thousand context hits.

I don’t really understand the consternation about in the Vision Pro has an M2 or an M3 processor. While it might represent the future, for now it’s a high cost boutique item for a small niche market.

Is anyone going to say, “I was going to get a Vision Pro, but now that it’s stuck with an M2 processor, and not an M3, forget about it”

Or the converse. “I wasn’t interested in a Vision Pro but now that it has an M3 I can’t wait to buy one.”

I just don’t see how the buying decision for a $3500 item that has a few hours of life, per battery charge, is really going to be effected whether it has an M2 or an M3 chip.

Ok guys get ready! iMac M2 2nd generation, and MacBook Pro 14 and 16 with M2 Ultra Pro 2nd generation and M2 Ultra Pro Max second generation! Please get excited and get your credit cards ready!

Maybe it’s your ad block? Or something that stops videos from autoplaying?
Nahh I’m using Safari on my iPhone XR and it’s fully up to date AND i disabled Reader mode and content blockers; Lockdown mode isn’t on either.

It started to morph but would stop after a few frames; It just looked like the shadow changed. 🤷

I have no idea what’s up with it, but I tried everything I could.

I think “Scary Fast” implies a M3 chip. At least that’s what I’m hoping for. The one insisting that M3 couldn’t possibly be coming (Gurman, ya, that means you), also insisted there would be no Apple October event, so I think M3 is totally possible.

It HAS to be the basic M3 chip in all these products. The MacBooks already have M2, so if they get updated it will be M3, and the iMac if just updated to M2 over a year late… it wouldn’t warrant an event. They want an event because they plan on explaining the M3 etc. and then launching the products with it.
That is consistent with what happened when both M1 and M2 were first announced—it was the basic M1 and basic M2 chips, not the Pro/Max versions. Why would Apple do it differently this year by releasing the Pro/Max variants of the M3 chip first, and then months later release the basic M3 chip?

The holiday shopping season in the U.S. starts in late November and goes until late December, and it's when Apple sells numerous quantities of its products during a year. The MacBook Air is the Mac that is the most popular in terms of sales. We know how Tim Cook prioritizes maximizing profits above all else, so why would he prioritize updating the MacBook Pro line (which make much less money for Apple than the MacBook Air line) with new chips over the MacBook Air line?

Soooooo, if this is an event is there a chance for iPad refreshes as well ??? I know that Gurman is usually spot on, but I hope that this time it will be an exception !
Ya, so am I. I actually think there’s very good chance that Gurman’s wrong, since, after all, only a couple weeks ago he was swearing up and down there wouldn’t be an Apple October event, and he was saying we wouldn’t see any Macs until early next year at the earliest. This year, he’s just been really wrong on pretty much everything he’s said. So I think it’s very possible we’ll get some iPads, at least a standard iPad 11th Gen would make sense, they already have the chips for those, so I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t release one. I’m hoping for new M3 iPad Pros! I’m really excited about the prospect of a new Magic Keyboard Case. Though I very likely won’t update right away.

Apple introduces the all new AirPort lineup with Wi-Fi 7 mesh networking. "Scary Fast" Wi-Fi.

That would be awesome.

I think Apple just didn't want the responsibility of allowing all the spy agencies to have a backdoor on every wifi router maybe? Is this why they killed the Airport base stations? I was amazed that they did that - surely they must have made money selling Aiport Extrem basestations no?

Is Apple out of touch and too far gone? I mean - they DO have the money making part working amazingly well, but with such a big office building and all the profits, they could not manage to keep making Airport Wifi ? How could that be I wonder?

I agree. However, I can see the base iMac remaining at M2 to keep costs down.
You can upgrade to a M3 iMac, but it'll cost you a pretty penny.

This is the Tim Cook upsell playbook.

ABF substrate and NAND supply-chain constraints adversely affected M2-line performance as noted in the iFixit M2 MBP teardown...

Teardown of the 14″ MacBook Pro M2…with Apple’s Help | iFixit News

...it would seem to this observer that Apple has solved their component supply problems and M2 might just "come into its own" and reach its intended performance potential with these newer and more-efficient components.

Couple that with the speed improvements possible with internal wide-bussing for displays that provide for higher-refresh-rates and higher-display-data-streams (vs TB4) and high-refresh/high-resolution (read: 6K, 8K) HDR output is possible.

The only product line not enjoying any "XDR love", thus far, is iMac...which makes sense considering the aforementioned, er, "parts" shortages...it just wasn't possible to roll-out product until the supply chain could catch up.

24" and 28" XDR iMacs with, er, "scary fast" M2 variants with the latest substrates and NAND. Et voilà, "Ho, ho, ho!" ! :)

Lol, dude if subpoena’d companies like Apple and Microsoft are legally compelled to give them encryption backdoors.

In fact, you can tell if you’re under secret subpoena by the existence of “/private/var/db/prng.seed”

If that file exists, you’re under subpoena.

PRNG = pseudo random number generator, and seed means that with that file everything can be decrypted.

I know this because I called the FBI after getting kidnapping threats.

Both can be used. It depends on the intended meaning.
A: ‘one of the more mysterious’ means that it’s more mysterious than some of the other mysterious events.
B: ‘one of the most mysterious’ would mean that it’s up there with all of the other most mysterious events.
I went and check, cuz that sounded really weird.
Turns out you cannot say "the more mysterious"

And here we go with the toxic comments complaining about Apple events. I for one like Apple events, I think you will love it.
Another day, another toxic comment when someone has a different perspective. I for one like when Apple talks about the actual functions, features, etc. of their great products without the same trite phrases.

How is me having a different perspective toxic? Not saying people have to like the events, but some people seem to go out of their way to complain about them in these forums.

ChatGPT really isn’t reliable, “the more mysterious” sounds like it’s implying a question, “the most mysterious” sounds like a statement.

In the example sentence, the questioning implication doesn’t mesh well with the statement the rest of the sentence is written as.

Not sure what it’s technically called, but it’s still off.

I think the M3s will get raytracing. And it there will only be base models so far, and for those, it should only come to devices not recently updated.
I think we'll get an M3 iMac, M3 iPad Pro, M3 13-inch MacBook Pro (possibly not Macbook Air). If lucky, an M3 Mac Mini.
