True because in 2021, when Apple released MacBook Pro with M1 Pro & M1 Max, they used the exact same phrase called "scary fast and scary faster" in the website. But they're using it again for this event! That makes me pretty damn sure we'll definitely get M3 Pro and M3 Max.
Or maybe the missing Mac Pro chip that fizzled off to nothing? The M3 Extreme?

Or... maybe they've upgraded the car project to a self driving jet aircraft project?

Aaaahh another event that makes you machines older :)
Love and hate relation with these events 😀
Considering most people really really can't afford to upgrade both their phones AND their laptops every single year, the psychological end result may end up breaking that yearly phone upgrade FOMO cycle that people have, and start to realise that older kit that does the actual job, is just fine.

Nothing else ships with a touchbar. Would Apple update a device and continue using it? Why not just replace the touchbar with funciton keys?

… unless it is the 27 inch iMac. That would be scary fast, going from Intel to M3 😊
They can’t compare new M series chips to their older Intel machines anymore; they now have to compare them to the previous versions of M series chips to impress us.

Interesting, Gurman now says it's ONLY M3 Max and Pro being released next week along with an M3 iMac. No M3 13 or 15 Airs or Mac Mini until Spring/Summer next year. Previously Apple released base M1 and M2 before the Pro/Max variants. Pretty sure Gurman is fed info by Apple directly, he is always pinpoint correct on the date of release, but only the exact week before.

ChatGPT really isn’t reliable, “the more mysterious” sounds like it’s implying a question, “the most mysterious” sounds like a statement.

In the example sentence, the questioning implication doesn’t mesh well with the statement the rest of the sentence is written as.

Not sure what it’s technically called, but it’s still off.
Yeah, GPT sometimes isn't reliable. I asked it again, turns out it's actually grammatically correct but has a different meaning.
The way it was used in the article just sounds off to me too, though.

"Scary fast" suggests more than a moderate upgrade of M2 over M1. I think we are really going to get the first M3 products. That means iMac with M3(!) and not "throw 'em a bone M2."

- Is the iconic 13.3 M1 MacBook Air going to get some sort of upgrade, stay the same, be discontinued or actually be redesigned and just called MacBook? (The thing still sells and I don't expect this to happen next week, but more likely sometime in 2024)
-
Is the old 13 MacBook Pro with Touchbar finally getting a redesign or just discontinued? (Candidly, the current MacBook Airs make the 13 Pro redundant and meaningless)
- I don't think the MacBook Pros will get a redesign until 2025, but a serious performance upgrade is coming soon. (And the damn things are beasts already)
- Mac Studio with M3 won't happen until later 2024, but a Mac Studio M3 Max is going to be insane!
-
Mac Mini with M3 might happen next week, but I think Spring 2024 is more likely.

Still running an M1 (Mac from my job) and it works great. For what I use the HW for, no use case for me an M3 would make things different.
I also have an iP14PM which I don't plan to upgrade till 16 or 17.

Nevertheless, I was pointing out that you always have tiny cringe - (quoting Morpheus): Like a splinter in your mind :)
We all know this is a never ending cycle.

I’ve been pretty chill about new macs and upgrades since I bought the first M1 Air. I could actually edit (short) 8K projects from my Red camera on that thing. I could view and check 8K footage (not in full res, but still) on location. I got a MBP after that for more ports and rendering power, and that’s a long while ago. I probably wont upgrade to M3, as for me my M1 is pretty decent still.
Edit:
Shame about the late start for us Europeans. I’ve always enjoyed watching them live. Wonder why the late start?

Very surprised that there is an Apple event. Also at a new time. 5:30 am on 31st in India. Looks like there will be some variant of M3

The confusion over iPad vs Mac was a distraction, Apple is going to announce something completely unexpected.
A car?
A lot of indecision on whether this event was going to happen. I hope that secrecy translates to Apple unexpectedly revealing two iMac sizes.

Coming from the Intel 27" iMac, stepping down to 24" has kept me from upgrading. 27" or larger please. If there's a 30" iMac M3 Pro – which has been missing from the lineup since the Intel to Apple silicon transition – I swear I'll walk over to the nearest Apple Store and buy it on the spot, no questions asked. 🤩
My 2017 iMac is still working great. I guess I’ll patch it with open legacy core to the macOS version of these new laptops, if, unexpectedly, they are worth it

With Snapdragon being announced and its potential speed comparisons with M1, M2 it may be that Apple have had to bring forward M3.

Marketing wise it would be a clever thing to do, as then Apple capitalises on all the Snapdragon publicity with a scary fast M3 lineup

Why "virtualized"? Under the skin, iOS and MacOS have the same skeletons.

Good point. I would actually prefer virtualized though, because I don't think Apple would ever offer a hybrid OS for iPad that provides all the freedom that a Mac does. However, I would take being able to run Mac App Store apps on iPad (assuming the full window and pointing device experience is included) over nothing at all any day.

for which a few people are clamoring
👍

That seems illogical as M3 Max and Pro would more than likely have to follow basic M3 as business wise it would be foolish to come out with anything other than a base M3 chip as a starter with the prospect of even faster devices keeping Apple's options open.
