My wife has had two Android models recently (the Samsung Epic 4G--a Galaxy phone--and now has the Nexus S). She has "accidently" downloaded viruses from the Android app store on each (we thought it might be the phones at first, but after returning each twice, we learned it was the apps). With her Galaxy phone, she even had her Gmail account hacked by downloading an app!

I don't think it's FUD to say there are viruses on the Android store. If anecdotal evidence isn't enough, there are studies available online too.

Fair enough. I kind of thought that it was an actual problem but didn't want to look stupid repeating something that a relatively rare phenomenon and make my self look like a brainless 'fanboy'. (Gawd, I really hate that term.)

I think many people confuse some of the opinions of the 4s. I think many people had no doubt whatsoever that the phone would sell well. First of all - 50 percent of iPhone owners own a 3GS or earlier model. Add to that - Sprint is now a carrier in the US.

The issue was never whether or not it was going to sell - most would agree it would and sell well. The "issue" many people had was that the new phone just wasn't all that exciting - or as exciting as it could be based on what was/is possible.

These things aren't necc. related at all. And sure - someone will chime in that clearly monumental sales must mean people are "excited." And I would argue that excitement over owning/getting a new phone is not the same as excitement over the specs. At least for those with the iPhone 4.

What WILL be curious - is how many people upgraded (staying with the same carrier) from iPhone 4 to 4s at launch.

I am excited and this is mine and my wife's first iPhone or smart phone for that matter. I am sure that I am not the only in that situation. I think the iPhone 4S specs are also exciting. Siri is going to be another game changer and that is exciting. Specs, by themselves are fine, on paper, if all you care about is bragging to others but mean nothing when they don't really add much over what the iPhone 4S offers. And it has already been discussed to ad nauseam about the larger screen, LTE and NFC.

And this is why Samsung & Google cancelled their press event for a later date. It's all about the 4S right now. Nexus wha? Ice cream who? Can't think about those things right now. SIRI!!!

And still, none of them says the things I have asked for.

I think many of you confuse saying that iPhone 4S is catching up with competition in some aspects or that is has been a flop regarding expectations with sayiong that it will be a flop, other handest will sell more, etc, etc.

It seem that some fo you see the world in black or white or with me or against me.

Maybe if you say "the iPhone 4S is catching up" three times while clicking your heals together it will come true.

I am. When there is a better platform out there now - WP7 and the iSheeple just go along with the toy OS forever. It's clearly brainwashing.

Yes clearly. A company has brainwashed millions of people into buying their products, and the super smart people like you go to WP7. LOL...what a stupid conspiracy theory. It's like you people aren't even trying anymore

Having 3 carriers as opposed to 1 on launch day tends to help

So how does that explain breaking the previous records every single year? Keep trying...

I swear these names Google comes up for their Android releases are just plain silly, Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich, etc.

Yeah pretty dumb. Its like they're 12 year olds. I could just imagine how excited they get everytime they come up with their names lol...

It appeases the Android fans though...you'll often see lame headlines on android forums like "Who wants to taste some Gingerbread?!?!?" and "I can't wait to have some Ice Cream Sandwich Goodness!!!"...lame

Both words are correct actually. So while my correction of V's usage was incorrect (see I can admit fault) - the word affect could be used as well. Thanks.

Actually, no, it can't. Not in that particular sentence. But, if you changed the sentence, then ok.

"This has no effect on me."

"This does not affect me.

Carry on.

I'll bet the ice cream sandwich melts, and then the plastic phone around it melts:eek:

:apple: all the way, it just works, and it works well:apple:

I don't know what you are smoking but you should get a refund because you are clearly smoking a bad batch.

 Keep trying for what? You seem to be looking for a fight/debate where there isn't one. I don't care about records or who outsold who.

All i'm saying is the phone is available on two more carriers than there were last year which means more units will be sold accordingly. Simple logic.

...that and the Steve effect.

My favorite stupid Android name?

Froyo.

Really?

I know it's short for "frozen yogurt" but it sounds too close to "Frodo" and makes me want to take an Android phone and throw it into Mount Doom.

One million preorders, but that's across the entire world. Let's say half of them were USA, so that leaves 500,000.

On the other hand I read somewhere that Android has like 50% of the US market now, so that's 300 million people x (1/2) = 150 million.

That makes Android 300x more popular than the iPhone 4S. (150 million / 500k = 300).

Given that most Android phones are BOGO, popular and free are not the same things.

Right, so how come there is no single android phone (available also on many if not all carriers) with a 1 000 000 in 24 hours preorders? That's not only availability that's playing here.

This would be a very selective barometer of success, because the vast majority of iPhone4 users are still under contract and not yet upgrade eligible. It would therefore be meaningless if it were even possible to discern the number - though at a quick glance and without noting the realities, it would undoubtedly look poor.

Let me guess his response: The rest is made up of "fanbois" (have you ever heard of a dumber nickname?) and "iSheeple" (wait, there it is).

Nevermind the fact that Android has more total users than iPhone owners, and the fact that there are plenty of first-time iPhone buyers (like myself).

Never let facts get in the way of a good argument.

Waiting for them to come out with

Ham o droid

A million in 24 hours of anything is still a million and impressive.

Who cares about iphone vs. android? Buy what you like!

As for the way sales will go , I imagine that people on 3GS contracts will always get the off cycle X? S phone and those who started with the ip4 will always get the full cycle phone.

Coming from a 3GS the 4S is a big upgrade and a "me want" phone and to wait for the ip5 is too far down the road with a lot of uncertainty.

By ip 5S LTE may be available widely, 128 GB prices come down, A6 or 7 is ready, ios 6 and who knows what else.

Won't deter the high techie must have the latest crowd from bashing anything Apple does.
The 4 S is a solid very good looking phone. Mine is bigger than yours doesn't work here.

The ip 4 design reminds me of the timeless BRAUN Studio stereo components if anybody is old enough to remember:)
