They are aware of this thread and will not be giving away bumpers for free to you freeloaders anymore. Sorry brah!

There is no freeloading about it... they messed up, they need to fix it. Some of us rely on these phones for a business... they need to work.

I got all mine free... but IMO it's the least they can do for the hassle... it's the "right" thing to do, and the did it as far as I'm concerned... I'll remain a customer.

Maybe tech support is too busy with the Core i7 MacBook Pros spontaneously crashing to deal with the bumper problem right now...

These are some of the best releases since PowerBook 5300s were bursting into flames back in the day.

For someone who has tried to call 3 times and have had the same company line spoken to them, I simply cannot believe that some people have gotten cases and others have not. I have been a loyal apple customer for years as well. Unless you are willing to part with a case # or have an email contact for a supervisor who promised you case... then it's just simply too hard to believe that some are getting cases and others aren't.

I spoke to a supervisor, and he stated, that even if he did send me a bumper for free, they are all back-ordered. He gave me his direct contact info and asked me to give him a call back in a few days regarding a fix for this known problem.

You actually paid 599 for an iPhone!? It's nice, but not worth that amount of money.

I'm going to assume you don't know this since you're in America, but buying the phone outright in the uk, rather than subserdized, with the right sim only plan on the right network can work out quite a bit cheaper in the long run. Definitely worth doing if you have the funds available.

The girl that I talked to was nice, but she said that they couldn't give out free bumpers...gave me the line about a fix promised on Monday. I'm thinking about calling again later.

jherb, try this for me if you would. Stand you Ip4 on its side (volume buttons up). Now rest a nickle across the seam. Do the bars drop off? This will tell me if your phone has some sort of insulation my phone doesn't have.

Thanks, Andy

Andy- tried want you asked and had no issues at all. I continued having full bars for the 5 minutes that I left it sitting there.

I talked with customer relations supervisor, NOT customer support. If that helps.
Sorry you feel this way.

I have a case ID, email, and contact phone. I won't be sharing that though.

Good luck to you.

I have 6 phones. It was free cases or returned 6 phones. They're choice.

I was very polite though.

Hey guys just got off the phone with a rep who was real nice. I explained to him I already bought a bumper for the signal issue and that anything they could do would be appreciated. I was put on hold and about 10 minutes later a supervisor came back on the phone and said that they would like to offer me a product from the apple store as compensation. He said that I would have to pick out something in the $75 price range, so I decided to pick the in ear headphones.

I think the biggest thing was that I was very polite and told them how much I have enjoyed the products over the years and that I was just a little annoyed with having to purchase a case to fix the issue.

Overall I'm really impressed and the people I talked to were great. I'll post my e-mail from Apple when I receive it as proof.

EDIT: He also told me that another person would be calling either Monday or Tuesday to follow up on the issue.

Anyone accidentally dial 1-800-694-4766 instead of 1-800-694-7466 (1-800-MY-IPHONE)??

It is entertaining to say the least...

I see you don't want to share case, email and contact info, thats your choice. Forgive me for continuing to feel skeptical about this. The company line is no cases. I honestly don't know what more I could have said to get a case (I told them about my numerous apple products, etc). If what you say is true, this really does piss me off.

Good for you! I am jealous.

I don't have any cellular signals dropping (I am using my old rubber/silicone 3G cover) and it works perfectly. I never use my iPhone "naked"

But my wife's iPhone 4 has been dropping (since she doesn't use a case yet). I did order 2 Apple Bumper (orange and green) colors for $58 plus taxes.

Maybe Apple should just drop the prices of the bumpers to $20 and call it a day.

I understand your feelings. But company policy is what jobs says, not a customer service rep. And a normal rep at that.

I see no need to allow people to reference my case number, or bombard the relations supervisor who helped me.

Again, I'm not the only one getting cases obviously. Good luck to you.

Just got off the phone with them after talking to them for 25 minutes. The guy was real cool and was going to talk to the supervisor about a free case, but the supervisor said they can't give them out. Then he said Apple is working on it and aren't even sure if it's a hardware problem, or a software problem, and they have no idea when a fix will be out.

I'm really confused as to how you guys are getting denied when I just got free in-ear headphones? Did I just get a really nice rep? Also I called Apple Care, is that what you guys are calling?

Success

I called, got escalated to a supervisor, and after a somewhat lengthy wait on hold .. he asked me for my zip code and then what color bumper I wanted. Woot.

I asked for Black, I just couldn't bring myself to wanting any of those other pastel colors. You think I made the right decision. As a male, I felt like the other colors just attract to many eyes lol

+1

I called before even seeing this thread - my call was on my own merit and was out of frustration. I don't wish for the supervisor I spoke with to be bombarded with requests. As he said, he is offering me the bumper and it is not being offered to everybody, just a case-by-case instance.

One other note, I did not ask for a free bumper. I did not even ask for a supervisor. The initial rep I spoke with said they had 3 questions they had to ask (reset phone? Try reseating sim? Restore phone to new?). After answering yes to all, she asked if I would hold while she got me a next level rep.

After waiting a few minutes, the supervisor picked up and we discussed the phone issue. He offered to send me a bumper but said he could not get it to me fast enough to fix the issue today. I accepted the bumper as it is a nice gesture by Apple. He emailed me his contact info and asked me to send him my mailing address. Once he received it he said he would put through the order and it would be processed in 1 day.

All in all, I am happy and extremely pleased with the rep I spoke with.

I tried it all and have come to the conclusion that NO ONE is getting any free cases by calling Apple.

Sorry to disappoint you but they are sending me a free bumper. I didn't even ask for one or speak to a supervisor. The entire conversation lasted less than 5 minutes. Not sure why some are denied this and others are offered them without hassle. Here's my confirmation email. I erased all the case numbers and such. Call me paranoid...

Apple Care rep just told me that cases make the problem worse
I'll be calling back soon after "going through the troubleshooting procedures."

EDIT: The second rep admitted to me that they were previously sending out free bumpers to patch the problem but they stopped now.
I just got sent to a manager, on hold now.

EDIT: Manager is a good conversationalist. She told me how the bumpers helped the problem but she didn't think anyone should be forced to buy anything. Just never an offer for a bumper though.

If they're saying to restore it (not from back up) is there a way not to lose your text messages and app data because I have no desire to do this...
