Aside from the fact that it did nothing but look cool, I love this teaser. :D
And to anybody who thinks it looks like a trashcan: perhaps Apple could use this to their advantage:

I didn't know Apple's marketing team came on MR.

----------

why would they advertise in movie theaters for what will likely be a $5000 desktop computer? They need to be targeting people who need these machines not the general public

They don't need to advertise to the people this product is intended for. The pros will obviously look into all options before buying a workstation, and they will see for themselves that the Mac Pro has what it takes to be a pro.

The most expensive trashcan designed in calfornia and build in USA. With the quality of american manufacturing, expect lots of breakdown. I can't believe if jobs is still here, he will approve such ugly design, it is the death of mac pro as we speak.

Steve Jobs was released today. Maybe that's where their showing this commercial is at that release?
I saw this ad in Kick-Ass 2, so not quite.

That melodrama is tasty.

You're kidding me, right? So you only advertise to attract people who already like your products and no one else?

It doesn't have to be just them but that movie being out is probably one of the reasons they are taking a chance at advertising in theaters. I'm an Apple fan and have never owned Mac Pro but these advertisements as well as WWDC has me tempted. I don't see what is so wrong with advertising in theaters.

But if the new MP ships with a 12 Core Xeon E5-2696 V2 it will be a killer Pro Desktop. Expensive, yes, but killer. :apple:

People that go for such specs knows that it is going to be expensive, but it is the price of doing business. That goes for ANY high-level workstation.

[tongue and cheek]

Great trailer, but the question is, can it play battlefield 3 in 5600 fps?

[/tongue and cheek]

Maybe they're advertising to mass audiences because it will be relatively inexpensive, as in PowerMac G4 Minitower inexpensive? $1499 and up? With all that's been stripped out of the Mac Pro tower such a low price isn't impossible. Less aluminum, much smaller logic board and risers, fewer components, and most likely Apple struck a sick cheap deal with AMD for GPUs.

For me the Mac Pro has been a disappointment for the most part. But I'm looking forward to seeing it in person, maybe It'll change my mind..

The way the light ripples down the Mac Pro in the teaser is just....brilliant beyond words. It's truly delectable.

Teasing a $4000 workstation at in pre-roll film advertising seems like bad strategy, but I guess it's cheap...

Those same naysayers are begging to plug USB and HDMI cables into their tablets. Don't they know tablets are meant to be mobile? They're not supposed to be attached to the TV. Idiots.

I like my TV as my second screen for my iPad.

Cables suck. Wireless isn't perfect but it is a big step that direction.

Why waste ad money playing this in theaters? The Mac Pro is such a niche product marketed and made for professionals only....

What is the point of marketing to the masses, most of which can barely run their iPhone or "Droids?"

You are off by a good 45% actually. On the low end. And any company with over a hundred billion cash in the bank is doing something right, even if you doubt it.

I have over 6000 shares at an average purchase price of under $20. Consider me to be a satisfied shareholder.

Completely off topic but I hate reading this fanboy myth over and over again. No, Apple does not have >100 billion $ in their cash reserve.

Apple does have more than 100 billion dollars on accounts in offshore tax saving models. They can not use this money in the USA nor Europe without adequately taxing it.

As Tim Cook knows this will look bad on the sheets (as it is a 2-digit billion number of taxes, Apple has to pay) this money sits there in an account rotting.

That's why Apple is lobbying for a tax amnesty. So please stop that myth of that giant cash reserve. Apple does have the money but they can't use it - because they resist paying taxes for it.

On topic: Before judging on the looks of the MacPro I'd like to see it in person. Nevertheless going for external expansion is what kills this thing for me. Sorry, but it's as versatile as an iMac so it has to offer a lot of beef to justify the extra cost.

Hmmmm... I assume I'm the only one who thinks the trashcan design is trying too hard?

Considering this is a working machine meant to be sitting on a working desk, I would have preferred an aluminum/white perfect cube over a black cylinder.

Very good! I want to know if we are going to get multiple CPU options, and since my Imac is brand new, I'm going to wait to see how the quality is before even considering a Pro. Right now? The newest of the older models with it's upgradability would kind of suit me better...It was only the lack of Thunderbolt that made me buy a new iMac last time around.
