LOL. I'm sure you were at the top of the iOS 7 basher list last year. Enjoy.

I still AM. Believe me, if I could use iOS 6 on an iPhone 5S, or 6 I'd be all over that. I still hate the awful iOS 7 look. But at this point, its way more stable than 8.

While I absolutely appreciate the more in depth explanation, I have now been told this 8 other times in this exact motherloving thread (and if you're like me and have 100 posts per page, I've been told 9 times on this page alone plus 1 saying there's a website to download any IPSW). I get it, the IPSW I have is useless without the "signing" that they have now ceased. I get it people. Thank you.

P.S. I don't know if I'm going to keep responding to people responding to me. Maybe if I get bored of it, but they haven't, so I will match tit for tat.

I suggest you edit the original post to let everyone know you have been edified.:) Otherwise, it could be a long night...

It's all about having choices.

I bet you'll be the first to line up when cars without a steering wheel are introduced and new laws mandate that "manual driving" is simply too dangerous.

There is a choice... just don't update. Apple doesn't disable your phone because you're running iOS 6. Sure you might not get the latest feature or apps might not work properly but that's your own peril for not upgrading.

Alternately, you can do what many people do... WAIT for about 3-4 iteration of the new OS and it's usually stable by that time.

You did mention how about the developer "slow down" but unfortunately as much as they want to test the bugs, they won't be able to do it in the confine of their testbench. There's always some bugs discovered while software is in the wild and that's just the nature of programming.

This is similar to the problem of developing an online game and stress testing the server. They can stress test all they want but until the game is actually released, it won't come even CLOSE to the rush of day 1 usage and they can't really test the server unless they release the game.

Mark my words. Someday when bandwidth is no longer limitation all updates will be initiated by Apple and the user will have no control. Like the automated app updates but without a manual override switch.
Storage and memory limitations will also disappear because everything will be cloud based and there will be no local content except for caching.
The computers will follow this paradigm shortly after this.

This is unfortunate. Ios 7.1.2 was very stable. Ios 8 took all that and flushed it down the toilet.

I'm all for progress, but iOS 8 is only a week old kids. App makers might not be able to get their stuff done in time for a bozo customer to update all their phones. It's not exactly been a stellar week for iOS patches either Apple.

I think you should only burn bridges when you're all the way across.. And checked that you got all your bags...

Good. I'm glad they do it.

People should be running the latest OS.

That is a very foolish statement. What if the latest version of an OS is buggy like iOS 8 is/was? It's very foolish to think you should have the latest when it early version are usually riddled with bugs.

Heck look at Windows 8. That's the latest, but there's no way I'm 'upgrading' to that mess. 7>8

Good to hear. If people keep holding back OS / hardware upgrades, that's their stupidity. Keep up and get out - pretty simple. I've never had any software issues and downgrading should be banned.

Yea after hearing how 8.0.1 disabled cellular service for an iPhone, it would be stupid of someone not to want to update to the latest even if it renders one of the primary purposes of the device useless.

Quite the opposite. People keep upgrading mindlessly without checking things and then come crying, asking me to fix their thing, or complaining on forums, they are just stupid.
That's just like ordering shoes online. Even if they are your size - sometimes they'll fit and sometimes you'll have to send them back.

I was able to buy a 5S & iPad Air in the last 6 days, both on 7.1.2.

Jailbroken and running perfectly. I will never update these devices. Never!

(I might pickup a iP6 when a iOS8 JB comes out, but my days of upgrading devices past their launch OS is over.)

You can delete those now.

They can? That's really good news. That was really a low blow by Apple. It's one thing to give a notice, but to download itself was absurd.

iOS 8 on the 4s is really pushing the limits of that model don't you think? If I had one I wouldn't upgrade it at all

Not as bad as an iPad 3. That A5X is begging for mercy.

I think it's ludicrous you can't reinstall older versions of Apple's own OS versions. Apple could discourage it, make it a bit of a hassle, make it have big scary warnings first, sure, but I think they should provide a method for it for users who really want to do so once in full possession of the facts.

The features and experience (not to mention wider selection of new app releases/updates) of the newer OS versions should be compelling enough. People shouldn't ever want, or feel the need, to go back.

But this way, Apple gets a high adoption rate from almost everyone but the most wary of users and calls it a success, even if people end up hating it and wish they could go back.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I think the best way for Apple to do this is to make it an option for developers enrolled in the paid developer program. I think that would be enough to discourage most people from downgrading, but it would be an option for tech-minded users who are likely already enrolled.

This is MOSTLY true, but you can put any app you want on your phone if you have a developer account.

I've been playing with a few experimental apps using my employer's dev account, and it's a lot of fun. No jailbreaking required.

Very true, though that is a rare exception compared to the general populace and user base as a whole.

Why are those iOS 8 animations on iPad 3 so laggy? Are these transition animations really that processor intensive? They don't strike me as that complex.

I don't know, but apparently I'm an anomaly because many in this forum say theirs works fine. Maybe I need another install. The UI animations that were fine in iOS 7 are horrid now and Safari is unusable in terms of loading, scrolling, and UI manipulation.

I find it funny how people now are claiming how great iOS7 is and they want to stick with it. Remember last year? The same story happened, except it was iOS6 that people were sticking with and that they don't want to update to iOS7. :D Funny how things go.

On the other hand, there is really no excuse for Apple to screw up 8.0.1. I mean seriously. First, this is not Apple's first attempt at mobile OS. If it was version 1 or 2, sure, but this is version 8. Second, this is not like Android/Windows, where there are gazillion of hardware configurations that have to be considered. Apple has only few hardware that they control themselves. It's like Sony having software updates that brick Playstations. There is really no excuses, other than laziness/ignorance/oversight.

At the same time, it is always wise to not jump to a major new OS update right away. (except for 8.0.1, where the "update" screwing things up). Personally, I usually wait until a second update or later before I update my primary devices. Same thing with OS X.

Everything about this comment just comes off as a little child who thinks he's cool and rebellious for not conforming with the mass. Eh.

I actually think I'm an average person and I drive a GM SUV. I wish I was a rebellious kid.

Everything about your comment was very judgmental. Thanks Jandy!

Not funny at all. The last updates of the last OS version, in this case iOS 7.1.x, are usually more stable than newer OS versions like iOS 8.0.x.
