I wouldn't call Tim a sociopath, just misguided.
This person give that person too much credit.

Chinese people working for $1.30 an hour aren't buying iPhones so what's the point in virtue signaling to them? The African American population is about 40 million in the USA alone. None of them work for $1.30 an hour. Can you imagine the sales potential there 😱Hey Tim? How about the Chinese laborers/slaves who help build your products at the equivalent of $1.30/hr?
Sorry but Timmy doesn't give a crap about broke unemployed people. They're not going to buy iPhones. He runs a business and his job is to sell a product. It amazes me how many corporations are throwing "million of dollars" for social causes. If all of these money were combined, just think how many unemployed people they can feed and help out with rent payment. Since Tim didn't blink an eye in throwing $100 million, how about lowering the cost of all Apple products? I didn't know know the money from Apple is Tim's personal bank account. This sound more like a publicity stunt. So how exactly how will these money reduce or stop racial injustice? It all start with each individual.
Because they're riding that politically correct wave of social media to score woke points. So before today and after all these years Apple and every other company jumping on the bandwagon didn’t care about blacks and the black community? Why didn’t they take 100 million a year ago when this issue was no different than a month ago? It’s all pandering and knee jerk reactions
Apple needs to invest money AND time to help under-reached communities. The pool of qualified hires needs to be improved before you can make progress in this area.
This is just political and moral posturing from Cook. There are so many things he could do with his personal wealth to help people if he really cared -- so could a bunch of other top apple people. Clowns like Cook must feel bad about having so much when so many have so little and this is his token display to make himself feel ok about it.
That's like saying before this terrible tragedy, nobody cared about racism in the US. And if this is a knee-jerk reaction it all is. Terrible post (along with many others in this thread)So before today and after all these years Apple and every other company jumping on the bandwagon didn’t care about blacks and the black community? Why didn’t they take 100 million a year ago when this issue was no different than a month ago? It’s all pandering and knee jerk reactions
Well Cook could always could ACT on the problem rather than make a big deal about how he is throwing a bucket load of Other Peoples’ Money about. Tossing OPM about is always very easy, and in the end a lot ends up wasted as no one is as careful with how they spend OPM compared with their own money. and it is not after all, his money. You’re right on the hypocrisy side of it.
I think this is a good initiative nonetheless. I’d prefer they throw money and ACT on the problem then sitting idly.
All this idiot ever does is throw money at the problem. Funny how he does or says nothing about the lack of free speech/human rights violations in China. Same these with these basketball players like LeBron/Kerr/Popovich. They're quick to criticize our own countries but stay silent due to their addiction to chinese money.
SJW is better than SIW.Gross. Apple has gone full SJW. If Tim wants to engage in political activism, he should do it on his own time and donate his own money. I'm sure there are plenty of Apple employees who just want to do their best engineering work and build great products... rather than supporting Tim's personal political pet projects.
How special. How about instead moving some manufacturing back to the US and hiring people who need a job?
For all this talk of BLM and systemic racism and lack of opportunities and funding in black communities.
I can’t help but think that there isn’t too much of a difference between these communities and the extreme poverty of white communities in America.
these lower class white communities appear to have more prejudices against people of colour but from the outside looking in they appear to have more in common with each other than they’d perhaps both like to belive..
agree or disagree?
American politicians have been relying on this fact for decades. For all this talk of BLM and systemic racism and lack of opportunities and funding in black communities.

You can't set the systemic racism aside. Studies have found, e.g., that resumes submitted with traditionally black surnames are less likely to receive callbacks than the same resumes submitted under more traditionally white names. Blacks with the same credit profiles are more likely to be rejected for mortgage applications and escape their neighborhoods than are whites. The list goes on and on. And, yes, blacks are more likely to be more severely punished for infractions of the law. While I'm sure things aren't exactly stellar for either community, minorities generally face more significant challenges.
Why would you call Tim a sociopath when he’s clearly not one? That seems really weird.I wouldn't call Tim a sociopath, just misguided.
I doin't think most folks here have a problem with the idea of the initiatives. I just wonder about the sincerity and longevity of the initiatives. Talk is easy, true change is much harder. Is Apple in it for the long haul? Once the current action is gone, my guess is that Apple and other companies will backslide to complacency and maximizing profit.
Yeah, I was kind of expecting this. Funny how my first thought when seeing this article was "I wonder if they'll need the POLITICAL POST" disclaimer on this. Haha! Stupid me! Racial equality and justice has to be a political! Was popping in say that this thread would be absolute trash. Didn't expect it to happen so immediately. Impressive.
If he did nothing, there would be outrage. If he gets involved, there is outrage. In a no-win environment, I prefer the side of action, effort. The 'do nothing,' 'me first and me only' approaches are proving pretty catastrophic in the US.
Interested to learn more about what the critics here are doing to support Black Lives Matter? Bitching about CEO participation in a tech thread? Neat.
