Comparing the tag on your overpriced product to another overpriced product doesn't mean your product isn't overpriced.

It seems like coffee is always the scapegoat. How many people actually buy coffee? Obviously a lot of people do or else the businesses wouldn't exist everywhere, but is it even 50%? I think far more people have phones than buy coffee. You're going to need to do much better than only being as good as coffee to get the majority of people buying your product over another phone.

This is funny because Starbucks is already hurting in sales....everyone knows if Tim said a nice cup of coffee he really meant Starbucks. Starbucks is probably saying hey leave us out of this. Lol

This is so me.

My name is Happyslayer and I am a caffeine addict.

I spend at least $6.00 a day on my Starbucks habit. It’s depressing when my wife shows me the breakdown in a Quickbooks pie chart for expenses. But... I don’t smoke or drink or do any other kind of drug.

(I also have an expensive Apple habit)

Why? My 6+ is even older and it's fine. It's just a phone.

It is not just a phone.

Unless you are the only person in the world who bought an iPhone to make phone calls and nothing else?

The latest and greatest iPhones are super computers. They outperform most Intel PC's now. It is incredible.

The iPhone X can take vastly superior photos. It can do AR. It has better battery life, a better screen, can handle all that iOS 11 can throw at it, and has better security with Face ID. We shouldn't ignore iPhone X is breathtakingly gorgeous too.

Yeah your iPhone 6s is pretty much the same as my iPhone X. Wanna trade?
Of course every new iPhone does things better. So does a new car vs an old car. The point is....in the end they all do pretty much the same things. A 3 year old iPhone will still make calls, texts, good photos. Just like an old car still gets people from A to B. Phones are becoming like cars anyway. Apple brining back and still selling the iPhone SE is proof of it. For many many people an iPhone 5S like device was GOOD ENOUGH.

I don't want "just a phone". But I don't want a "super computer" either. The 6S runs apps, and runs all the apps I need just fine.

I know, right? If you don't update your phone every two years, the gods might tie you to a rock and have an eagle eat your liver.

I personally upgrade every year, but I think it's reasonable to buy a new iPhone at least once every two years. The amount of use we all get out these incredible devices more than justifies being on at least a two year upgrade cycle.

33$ is not cheap. A gym membership is 25 a month plus Netflix is about what you get for the base model X.
256 gig at basically 50$ a month is a car insurance payment.
When we had subsides we put down 3-400$ on a phone and had no payment. That was much better for the consumer that didn’t mind keeping a contract.
We still have contracts now basically tied to paying off our phones. But in the end the consumer is paying much more than a few years ago. Phone companies are making much more nowadays then two years ago. But we see these 30$+ month payments as a few coffees a week? Give me a break.
Trying to put it in perspective but in reality we won’t be changing our drinking habits. So yes it’s badically the cost of a gym membership plus more. Not something small to me over time.

I agree all modern-ish iPhones can easily do the things you say. But most people are doing a lot more with their iPhones than just those things. The iPhone is their only computer.

Keep in mind many apps that are being updated now require iOS 11. So if you want to keep your apps updated and secure, you need to update. And the older iPhones don't run iOS 11 very well, so really you should be upgrading to a new device.

Some people are a bit slow and need help breaking down what an iPhone X truly costs. I think it makes absolute sense to make it clear you are literally willing to piss away a few cups of coffee a week (ok, not you - maybe it's beer instead?) but unwilling to spend the same amount on an incredibly awesome iPhone X? That iPhone X will bring you absolute joy every day for years.
"Absolute joy", that's hilarious even coming from you.

I like my iPhone but the cost is just getting too high now. If £1000 becomes the norm I'll be out.

I agree with Tim but unfortunately this is going to be a meme for a VERY long time. "Courage" / "can't innovate my ass" / "You're holding it wrong" levels of Memes.

Every time someone complains about the price of whatever new product Apple releases. inevitably a commenter will compare it to coffee prices.

I'm looking forward to the lulz.

An iPhone 8 or 8 Plus is still an option. It'll be interesting to see what Apple does next year. Maybe you'll be able to get an X for £100 less?

Are you claiming your favourite company is selling a product which isn't fit for purpose? Wow.

I wish they wouldn't sell old outdated technology just to hit a certain price point. Tim Cook loves it though. He was selling some awful iPads for years longer than necessary. The Mini 2 for example. And the lousy iPad Air.

Expensive coffee is expensive. From this, and other comments, Tim has lost touch with the financial situation of the average Joe. Typing this from Starbucks, btw.

I make coffee at home. It costs me $40 a month for my beans so the argument holds up even though I just drink black coffee pour-over every morning. When you add on my brewing equipment spread out over 5 years, it's a LOT more. To drink good coffee at home still costs more than an iPhone X.

Another way of saying this is that it's the cost of a regular cup of coffee every day. Tim is suggesting I stop drinking coffee to afford the X. **** you, Tim.

He hasn't got much choice. Their prices are now so high they would be out of range for millions of their current customers if they dropped the older models and only sold the newest releases.
