You all complain but people are still buying the 'old' products just as if they were new. When they do release something 'new' everyone complains on here. If they just did incremental updates people would complain it's not 'new' and why am I paying for 3 year old tech... Obviously they know what they are doing looking at stock.

I've learned over the last couple of years that it doesn't matter what Apple does people will complain, especially on forums. The thing is as well those of us who post on these forums are not a major representative of people who are interested or use Apple technology or even technology in general.

It's time to retail box Mac OS and license it to other vendors. Apple apparently forgot what its customers want and need.
What a complete waste of a great OS.

That will never ever happen. And it shouldn't. Apple should just choose to make computers in different form factors and for different needs. But they should always control the design and manufacturing process.

But yeah, they really wasted the opportunity that Windows 8 presented them. Windows 10 is a tougher competitor.

It depends what they are working on, just a spec update then yea i would agree, but with Apple you never know. It's like the update for the iMac's they are expected sometime this year and haven't been updated in a while, but i'm willing to wait and see what they have in store. Doesn't mean they aren't working on anything, maybe new features? maybe completely new hardware for the Mac that's taking longer than expected, we just don't know.

Whatever the case, I think at this point the word rushing should be out of the question.

For what is worth, I think that's exactly what happened to the new macbook pro, that it was rushed to the market, hence the myriad of problems that came with it. But that's even worse in my opinion, to take so long to release a product and even then release it half baked. I guess they can't afford to repeat that mistake with the mac pro after the less than stellar 2013 model.

Haven't we heard this before? Final Cut X? MBP 2016? Are they going to make machines professionals actually want?
I don't think FCPX is a bad product at all, quite the opposite. I do think the introduction could definitely have been better handled than it did.

Here is my problem. The secrecy under Jobs was cool, because at the end there was a "TADA" that blew us away. Knowing too much spoiled the big surprise.

Under Tim Cook there is still the secrecy but at the end there is "WTF?"

Tim, there is no need for secrecy if you can't give us the big payoff.

Either give us something amazing like Jobs did, or cut with the crap and publish a roadmap like Intel does.
When he said they would 'double down on secrecy' what he really meant was 'we have nothing coming'.

iPad Pro, iPhone Pro, and ryzen-based macbook pros! It's gonna be great!

What, am I missing something? I.. nah I don't think so. Maybe they'll introduce an iMac Pro. They could make the screen a touchscreen/tablet like the Surface Studio!

That should address all the concerns pros have, I think. Unless I'm forgetting something. I can't be forgetting something though can I?

On the non-Pro side I could see them making a fanless Mac Mini that uses a USB-C power brick for power. That could be interesting. lol
I really hope you're being sarcastic.

Agree, but apple has always stated that the mac mini is just an entry level machine to their world (worked for me some years back). Would be great to have a small powerful mac mini, but apple would therefore have to make the iMac and Mac Pro extremely powerful which is not in apple's concept or direction.

Yeah, they've always resisted selling the "headless" Mac. The Mini wasn't it because they intentionally left it under powered. But maybe someday they will. The trashcan design would certainly look nice on folks' desks.

Trashcan shape for the Mini. Hmmm.... I think that would be called the Mac Mini Ashtray.

Perhaps they would go all out and make it so thin that we could call it the Mac Mini Coaster.

After that, they could have the Mac Mini Doily.

Battery for me. And yes that involves a design change.

Here you can see the major apple product pipelines . The one in the middle is the "pro" one, the others which you cannot see clearly down, may hold something at the end...

As you can see, not clean, there is some old debris on the sides...

What do you mean by snake?

I think the point with what Tim Cook has said is that they have no plans to make a touchscreen Mac will they make a hybrid iPad with a full desktop OS, it's something they have said for a while now, yet some people are still asking why they haven't done it, that question has been answered many times.

The iPad Pro is not meant to replace everyones desktop, the average PC user is however different, the average user watches content, works on spreadsheets, writes notes, letters and any other document, checks email and uses web browsing, these are all things that can be done on the iPad along with being able to write and draw with the Apple Pencil.
However those people who do serious video editing or want more power will buy a Mac.

For example i own an iPad Pro it's a very capable device which i use for drawing, some word-processing, content consumption and multitasking. But then i've also got a Mac that is used to video edit when i need too, play the occasional game edit photos and so on, the iPad compliments the Mac really well that it would be shame just to combine the two and i think Apple know this.

I will reserve judgement on what Tim has said about desktops, we are only 3 months into the year with a probable Apple event later this month (March). I would rather they work on things properly and make us wait than rush things out like some people seem to want and then have problems.
Those "basic user" tasks can also be accomplished on Linux. Well, with the exception of iTunes videos. But at least you can accomplish those tasks on a desktop operating system that's not Windows. Yes, you generally have to install it yourself. But it's not that hard. And there are some companies that sells computers with Linux preinstalled, like System76 and ThinkPenguin. And at one point, Dell sold computers with Linux preinstalled.

I understand the word "pro" can be interpreted different ways and that many people who might be described as professionals can get by without a 12+ core Mac Pro or without a wicked fast MacBook with 32 GB+ RAM, but the meaning of the word "pro" has become entirely meaningless under Tim Cook's reign. I've heard nothing the least bit assuring to actual professional users who do need those things.

I defended Tim Cook for a long time, but I've turned on him and I now believe he has poisoned Apple as a company providing for high-end users. The great engineers at Apple who worked on those products are either pulled away to work on iOS devices or they'll simply leave the company to work on other things. It's probably too late for them to turn back at this point.

Um. It is not just Apple. The Surface Pro is not 12+ cores or 32+ GB of RAM. What is worse, is the PS4 "Pro"

I edit in Avid and I like the intergration of Adobe Suite applications.I can't imagine my workflow without an nVidia card specially after the new revolutionary architectures.FCPX is a fine piece of software but I don't use it!Industry don't use it.Why they restrict us like that?

And complaing about it is going to do what exactly? I'm not being harsh here but if people don't like what's on offer they are more than welcome to look else where, but I wouldn't be surprised to see desktops updated at some point this year.
To explain again:
The Pro user base here invested most of their budgets in Apple stuff now to see guys with ridiculous salaries lamentate in the most competitive market (MacBooks, Mac Pro, related IT) on the planet.
Trying to sell us tablets with a phoneOS instead. Not only miserable workmanship, but outright deceivement when it comes to never implemented IBM partnerships, end-of-PC era announcements, switching priorities by the year etc. The lack of providing a future means that all our Pro investments in premium priced Apple IT over the years appear money thrown away (well, we can gaze at their Spaceship of Arrogance where most of the money went...hope it will close its doors and leave this planet soon)

Probably an iMac Pro coming at some point.

Yeah, I can see an iMac Pro...

I can see it now. The all new Mac Pro with touchbar!
While the Mac Pro won't have a TouchBar, they already have Patents for an external keyboard with a TouchBar. I assume that will be offered when they update the desktop line this year.

I love my iMac5K.

I tried a MacBook pro touchbar w/ Lg monitor but it was laggy. Even simply moving windows around... plus there is that present fan noise for daily graphics tasks. It went back to the store. Severly underpowered I felt and a big down grade from the iMac 5K.

I thought of building a hackintosh but sounds likely it's a PITA to get a 5K display to work and I don't have the time to fiddle with gear like I used to.

I hope to see a solid 5K refresh with Kaby lake soon! next month "they" are saying.

Thank you for keeping Apple relevant and innovative. I had planned to replace my late 2011 MacBook Pro with the 2016 model but was put off by the elimination of all the ports that I use everyday. I would love to see a new MBP offering that was more compatible with existing hardware that millions of us use on a daily basis (USB flash drives, camera and car SD cards, and a return of the famously affective and genius MagSafe power port). Countless Apple MBP devotees would line up for it even if it was a few millimeters thicker! You could market it as a MacBook Vintage Pro Edition. :apple: I am all for and readily embrace innovation but hate the idea of walking around with a bunch of adapter cables or having to buy new Thunderbolt 3 compatible accessories.
